I was born in the late 70’s, raised in the 80’s and grew up in the 90’s. My generation would use sea breeze to clean our scalp or witch hazel. It’s effective for cleansing as well as keeping the itch away.
I’ve always known you can but I never have because I’m scared it will never dry and will grow mold or start to smell or something… my natural hair can take 5-6 hours to dry on a good day and I imagine braids would double that easily?
its crazy because I can wear my box braids for three months and when I take them out I usually rock the braidout look for a week. maintaining your scalp while your hair is braided is the secret formula!
I just gradually take them out over 1-2 weeks, starting from the middle, and hiding it with half-up styles and eventually a bun covered by just the braids at the perimeter.
I have 4c... I can do the maintenance wipes but a full wash I cant unfortunately because that wash and the friction makes my hair loc and they're almost impossible to take out... So I have to take them out after like 6 weeks max... but these maintained great I so jelly... super cute
I love the clean your scalp daily tip. Never thought about it daily but it’s like how you wash your skin and face daily since scalp is skin! Thank you for sharing your hair care!
Braids looks amazing! Now, this is a good video to show peeps how to take care of their braids! Wow, like I’m so serious cause I see some peeps braids after a month and 🤢🤮! I think some people think that with braids they don’t have to do anything with them except do edges and put in a bun! Scalp be dirty, crusty and smelly! Thanks for sharing.
I once commented on a video about how it is possible to wash braids and got piled on lmaoo. So many “you’re not black. You don’t have 4c hair blah blah.” I was just so confused? Like when did this start? Ive gotten braids since the 90s (long before any of this “protective style” lingo came into play) and I’ve always washed them. They were also totally convinced that their hair didy smell after going 2-3 months without washing. Even if someone doesn’t sweat or get oily easily, their hair is still picking up dirt, dust, debris and odors from the environment. Sorry for the long rant 😅 lol. I’m happy there are creators out there debunking this myth
@@DuckyToofTHANK YOU!! I got ATE up on some IG comments cause I said Braids be stinking after a while if you don’t wash them. They said I needed to get checked! 😂
When does the itch start from the 1st few days n throughout or as the braids get stale? Cos if it’s from the onset maybe find hair that has been pre washed or pre wash it yourself to get the chemicals out it before getting them braided in
Try washing your braid hair before doing your protective style. Use ACV (apple cider vinegar). You will find the itching will virtually be nonexisting, After that process, see youtube for steps how to wash your braid hair before attaching to your hair. Bless 🇬🇧
I never thought about this too but I always kept my braids cleaned every week with Sea Breeze omg it’s the best feeling. That cool and cleaning feeling when washing your braids in the shower. I might have to start back wearing them.. ❤
@@shalanathomas7751 it’s a cleaning astringent. they use it to clean face and skin, some people use it as a toner. My hairstylist got me using it in my hair. It works great in hair cleaning out product and making your scalp very clean… Then she would use a little shampoo. It has a cool feeling to your skin they have the normal and extra strength…
I literally do my own braids, and I do it so often it reduces build up, and overall breakage. I have been braiding this stuff up for over 20 years and I definitely keep my ends clipped, washed and a light sheen moisturizer. 😊
Love to see someone else who washes their hair while wearing braids! People look at me crazy when I tell them I wash mine. I’m not sure who started the lie that we can’t/shouldn’t wash our hair while in protective styles. I don’t think people realize hair picks up odors from the environments. Even if you don’t sweat or have an oily scalp, windy days or a smelly room will leave your head funky!!! In my opinion, it also helps with the takedown process not to have braids full of oil and product.
I started doing the wiping of my scalp daily from you and honey what a difference! I don’t get dandruff as must my hair doesn’t get buildup in the front from doing my edges and my edges have been healthier because I wipe them clean daily instead of leaving that wax on them and adding more the next day! Thanks belolved❤
Very smart of you to bring nourishment because you are going to be there a looooong time! I don't know how you ladies do it, but I commend you! Beauty takes time!
Not disagreeing just asking because I always thought shampooing braids will mess them up a wipe sounds cool .. but the longest I’ll keep in braids are 2 weeks for cornrows and regular single braids a month never over .
Yes! 👍🏽 Get some Dollar Tree wipes to keep in your purse or car and clean your scalp AFTER you cool down from exercise, mid-day or toward the end of the day if you've been sweating. Sweat or not, the natural oil that comes out of the human scalp STINKS worse and worse each day. So yes, wipe atleast a few times a week, get some rinseless shampoo for the days you sweat and rinse your scalp, dry it to prevent mold & re-moisturize with a light oil mist. Braids or not, the scalp needs to be cleaned or atleast wiped. These braids are gorgeous!!!😍
This style really suits you 👍 I never thought about this style back in the days when I was doing my own micros. Seeing this hairstyle makes me wanna go back in time ❤️
I prefer cornrows, myself, less pulling, not much tension, I agree with the maintenance, I always make sure I wash my braids, before, less dirt, grease, when I take out.❤
Love your hair hygiene tips! I don't have braids at all (I rock a pixie cut) I see so many woman with braids that DO NOT take care of them! I hope these tips and tricks encourage someone.
I've always loves how the braids look. It's alwaS been so cool to me. I loved seeing my friends hair in school when she would do braids , or how she would fix her hair in all the cool styles. ❤❤
Your hair don’t look 3B/3C it looks damaged. My hair looked the same when I transitioned and then finally big chopped, I got that type 4 hair once the damaged ends were gone and my true curls would pop.

I need u here badly. Awesome work😊
Great tips. Because its a protective style doesn’t mean you don’t maintain and upkeep your hair and scalp. Your braids look great.
Yup!
AMEN!
Never NEVER thought to clean my braids daily to prevent build up. That’s some good advice. Thank you!

I wash mine weekly. Keep ‘em in for 2 months

Would you remoisturize after cleaning the scalp?
Also do you dilute the witch hazel?
Yes indeed
Sea breeze drys your hair out

Yessss the first salon i worked on was owned by a lady in her 70s she taught me about scalp cleansers
👍🏽alot of people don't know you can wash your braids. It's a must!
But won't it frizz
Just make sure to get them all the way dry 😊

But then they don’t last as long. You can just let the shower water run and gently massage.
@@isisthegoddess9774that’s why i’d recommend washing them after the 2-3 week period. That’s nearly a month so it works best for me

3b, 3c?? That’s looks like 4a, 4b hair with heat damage I’m confused
Definitely 4a
I wish I could help but I don't know what any of the numbering and lettering means.
Yes, but I wasn't going to say it. Hair changer with consistent heat. The curls become looser but still 4a/b
