Just came back to this after watching her 2024 music video for Disease because I think it shares some similar aesthetics. Classic Gaga is back and I'm so ready!!
AJ Raynemaker lol she talked about this video before and he wasn't torturing her, he was trying at first to bring her back to life and later on trying different ways to keep her alive. I.e. Robot, mermaid.
I think this is the best song by GaGa so far: the electric guitar gives me the pop from '70s vibe, like a song from Queen. Also the piano gives me the idea of a country ballad that would also be great with just an acoustic guitar. I have no doubt that this is a pop masterpiece, completely underrated in my opinion.
+Zenith Zaafir Yes, the Queen was the band that inspired her for many years on her career. Might even remind you that her name Lady Gaga is a reference she took from the song Radio Ga ga from the Queen :3
That turquoise blue hair with black leather straps and pantyhose look is one of her most beautiful looks! In fact, that turquoise blue hair phase of the Born This Way era is entirely beautiful!
Sarah Yes!!! I always knew I liked this track more than the rest and could never put my finger on it...when I found out about Brian I was like oh yeah it all makes sense now. 😭❤️
It's been 12 YEARS and I still remember exactly the first time I watched this. Of course I was mind blown, but I was 13 back then. My mind was still too fresh to understand the complexity of Gaga's storytelling, and still she earned my heart. Thank you so much, Mother.
I remember she was doing an interview about the meaning of this video on MTV. She said it was about loving yourself first before you love someone else. As far as the whole "making love with the mermaid" thing, she said sometimes no matter how hard you try, or how much you love someone, sometimes you just can't make it work. At least not until you learn to love yourself first. This video is full of metaphors that are ignored. She's a genuine musician/artist and not your typical "pop star". She's a lot smarter than people make her out to be. I feel the best is yet to come from her. She's WAY too talented to stay in the pop genre. She may not be on top of the world like she was in 2009-2011 but every artist has their ups and downs. I'll just patiently way until she finds herself again and comes up with a great theme that'll showcase her artistry and talent, because I know it's in there somewhere waiting to awakened.
It's not so simple as all that. For Gaga to have a real artistic comeback and get the critics in her camp again she needs to learn to let go of what she thinks she is succeeding at creatively- it is her stubborn clutch on bad ideas that is at the heart of Gaga's weakness, but also her trademark refusal to see delusions as fantasies (and thus her entire actualized fantasy of a career)
I agree! I feel as though she let it all go to her head and things seem less sincere. When as before, things seemed more genuine and feel like she surrounded herself with 'yes men' that'll say yes to anything she puts out (even if it's bad). But I think she's in a good place right now, mentally and glad she found a friend in Tony Bennett to be able to figure herself out. We'll see what she comes up next after this Jazz album.
I'm 61. I admire how hard Stephany has worked to become who she is. I love all her songs and performances. She's gorgeous, intelligent and has that voice I admire so much
there's something so poetic and sad about a mermaid being kept alive by an amateur scientist in the middle of nowhere, hundreds of miles away from the sea.
aurora marquez i think its about her past relationship. The boyfriend is abusive yet she still loves him because he provides everything (food water etc). So yeah thats my theory
I remember the day this song was posted. It was 2011, I was 18, and I had bought the CD from Best Buy just barely the day before. My dad took me to buy it. He didnt even know who Lady Gaga was, but he knew how excited I was to buy the CD, so when we got in his truck he said, "Put your new CD in and we'll play it!" and I said "Hell yea! :D" and we played all the songs on the drive home, and he loved it SO MUCH. 8 years later, I'm 26, still in love with Gaga, and my dad loves her now too. Love you so much Gaga, you beautiful Mother Monster you
Literally almost the exact same situation with me. Also 18 when this came out, and I played it for my dad and he LOVES Gaga now and especially for the king of person she is!
Im listening to this for the first time because of the Daily Mail article on Gaga and Taylor Kinney break up. She is so enormously talented, she makes every pop artist today look like a hack.
What a song... it has everyhting in it. Jazz, rock, country, blues, pop ... and what a video. In my humble opinion this was and still is Gaga's best album ever ...
One of my favorite music videos and songs of all time. The contrast between her New York woman fashion/self with the humble atmosphere of her Nebraskan love interest is done so beautifully. Gaga must have really loved this man to dedicate such an amazing song to him.
This was a hit in our country. Most of my classmates in middle school used this song when we had individual presentation about ourselves and our family.
Im a 70s RocknRoll guy Stones, Zeppelin, Alice Cooper, Lynyrd Skynyrd The Who Bad Company Bob Segar The Clash Todays music isn't all that bad. Let me tell you how crazy 70s concerts were with hardly any security. Indoor concerts were just as bad. Security would see folks smoking pot & didn't kick them out. Folks got so drunk even the music didn't wake them up. It really was crazy people fighting. Not gonna lie I was worried about fights because I was only 5'6 Tall. Back then it was easy to sneek Alcohol in. 1 thing tickets were only $ 5.00 Some times I thought there was a fire because so much smoke. It was fun parting with 70,000 fans. 10 years of concerts 4 every summer. This was in Buffalo, NY labelled Snow Capital of USA because of 1977 Blizzard. It was a bad storm City & Schools were closed for 3 weeks. I don't blame people we still get 10 feet almost every winter from Lake Erie. It drives me crazy of all the citys near 5 great lakes why Buffalo gets the most snow

Y’all I’m a 30 year old man from South Georgia. Lady Gaga isn’t everyone’s cup of tea where I’m from. But I respect her talents and showmanship. The first time I heard this, I thought this was like a steroid version of Shania Twain. Country, Pop, Acoustics. She is mind blowing.
I was just thinking the guitar work on this song is incredible and then I come across this comment now everything makes sense. Gotta respect the Legend Brian May
Ok, I have been listening to this song on repeat since it was released, and I never knew this???? The solo guitar is haunting and mindblowing. Now I know why!!
+Pina Oz actually they met while filming this video. he kissed her on screen and she smacked him. then he kissed her again and she didn't smack him and the rest is history lol.
this was made in my town and her production crew ate lunch in my school cafeteria. also the barn she’s dancing in was five minutes away from my house but they tore it down to build a new neighborhood:( it was famously known as the lady gaga barn😂

is it just me or is this the most underrated song and video ever by lady gaga
nope this song is award worthy. I feel like the only reason she lost was because she was competing against Adele which was tough competition.
Her most underrated song and video is Til It Happens To You tbh

Iconic, and ironic, considering she's singing about one ex-boyfriend while being tortured by another ex-boyfriend.

@@therealjason52798 Agreed
100% of We Will Rock You samples probab!
Me too, its sounds like country song
This was produced by Mutt Lange, same guy who produced lots of Shania's stuff
muito top
YASSS she's everything on steroids
The fact that it is built on the chorus from We Will Rock You" and that Brian May himself plays the guitar makes the song even more cooler!
Wow
Just when I thought she couldn't get any more cool....
Amazing
loving the fact she's getting married to the guy that was in her video about love conquering all obstacles! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
+amanda carlile He was her boyfriend prior to filming this. ;)
+Pina Oz actually they met while filming this video. he kissed her on screen and she smacked him. then he kissed her again and she didn't smack him and the rest is history lol.
She is a lucky woman! Taylor Kinney is sexy as fuck.
+Jenna Denjern Nah, he's lucky. Gaga is queen.
+Jenna Denjern yeah.. she's so so so lucky he is so so so so so yummy
She's just perfect. This is her best song of all time.
Btw I love her she is my fav female singer and I love all her songs.
Juan Daniel Homez And Applause
She really fits in American Horror story.
when I see her dressed in black under the sun I think she would have made a freakin witch in Coven :D
Ocean Bubbles love that show
My favourite Gaga song. It’s so underrated ❤
this was made in my town and her production crew ate lunch in my school cafeteria. also the barn she’s dancing in was five minutes away from my house but they tore it down to build a new neighborhood:( it was famously known as the lady gaga barn😂
julia kreifels really no way idk if you’re a troll, but if you’re not I’m so jealous!!!
It's unfortunate that the Lady Gaga barn was torn down
Gaga barn will remain in our hearts
I remember. It was a big deal lol
wow,
I can not believe that she and Taylor engaged ♥
I'm so happy for them :)
thanks for being happy for them , #monsterlove ♥
they just broke up
i remember watching this as a kid and not understanding a single shit of what was going on, now that i watch it i get it, pure art.
Same 🤣🤣🤣
I still don’t know what the hell is going on
My favorite lady gaga song of all time!
It’s been a long time since I’ve watched this. It has literally not gotten any less flawless
gaga's ethereal beauty and artistry. that's it.
for any one wondering her full name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta...
One of Gaga’s best music videos
