I remember she was doing an interview about the meaning of this video on MTV. She said it was about loving yourself first before you love someone else. As far as the whole "making love with the mermaid" thing, she said sometimes no matter how hard you try, or how much you love someone, sometimes you just can't make it work. At least not until you learn to love yourself first. This video is full of metaphors that are ignored. She's a genuine musician/artist and not your typical "pop star". She's a lot smarter than people make her out to be. I feel the best is yet to come from her. She's WAY too talented to stay in the pop genre. She may not be on top of the world like she was in 2009-2011 but every artist has their ups and downs. I'll just patiently way until she finds herself again and comes up with a great theme that'll showcase her artistry and talent, because I know it's in there somewhere waiting to awakened.

It's not so simple as all that. For Gaga to have a real artistic comeback and get the critics in her camp again she needs to learn to let go of what she thinks she is succeeding at creatively- it is her stubborn clutch on bad ideas that is at the heart of Gaga's weakness, but also her trademark refusal to see delusions as fantasies (and thus her entire actualized fantasy of a career)
I agree! I feel as though she let it all go to her head and things seem less sincere. When as before, things seemed more genuine and feel like she surrounded herself with 'yes men' that'll say yes to anything she puts out (even if it's bad). But I think she's in a good place right now, mentally and glad she found a friend in Tony Bennett to be able to figure herself out. We'll see what she comes up next after this Jazz album.

I think this is the best song by GaGa so far: the electric guitar gives me the pop from '70s vibe, like a song from Queen.

In 2011, I was a typical filipino highschooler, also a typical closeted guy, who goes to a nearby computer shop at lunch, and watch 'You and I' secretly with two of my best friends at that time.
I dealt with lots of school and social anxieties, but I remember so vividly that this song and Lady Gaga in general made me so profoundly powerful, that I can be someone I had always dreamt of. I also remember wanting to recreate all the visuals of this music video. She was (still is) my huge influence in my creativity and love for fashion, believing she had awakened so many parts of my mind.
It's the year 2022 and here I am STILL crying in awe watching this. But now I am no longer closeted. My creativity and confidence has high vibrationally shifted, and I have become the person my high school self wouldn't have believed. I make films, I do photography, I model, I do self portraits, doing my make up and experimenting with high fashion, and being unapologetically me.
