Current in the market for this exact car and I am incredibly grateful of this review. Really thorough and informative. Got points on some real world driving rather than just focusing on the performance. Great review. Will be subscribing
Thanks Harry. Glad you enjoyed it. This one one of my very first videos I made over 5 years ago. Hope fully you’ll see me videos have come on a long way since then 😜😂
Very good review. Best I have seen for the S4 so far! Thank you! Got a A5 2,0 TFSI S-tronic quattro S-line at the moment and thinking about down/up-grate to the S4. A car that used (2013 ish) cost around 100-120.000€ in Denmark where i live! So its a big decision. Thank you again! p.s. I gets around 30 mpg (12 km/l) out of the 2,0 TFSI, so its impressive you can get that out of a 3,0 compressor!
Hi Jens. Thanks for the feedback. Glad you enjoyed the video. We totally love this S4. Best car we've ever owned. Mighty fast but still good fuel economy. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.
No way ! Justin you are going to LOVE it...the best car I have owned to date. It does everything so well and at the end of the day is bloody quick and will put a smile on your face !
Absolutely love this car, hope to be getting one soon! Great informative video!! Go to a company called Revo and they remap to 400-430 bhp! It nearly beats the rs4 but make sure to upgrade brakes and air intake
When you're speaking to Audi, you can tell them that I have two big dogs, I'm a former rally driver and I'm replacing an A6 Allroad TDI, so it's a given that I'll want a hatch/estate with the Torsen Quattro transmission, rather than the Haldax Quattro or FWD, which limits my platform choices a bit. S4 performance is on a par with my Elise, which is quick enough for a daily driver, but with space for family and without the fuel consumption of the RS models... so the S4 Avant looks like a sensible choice. What surprises me though is that it's taken Audi so long, and a supercharger, to get roughly the same power that my 6 cylinder 3.6 litre M5 had back in the early 90s (I'm not counting the previous Audi 4.2 V8 as that was more capacity for less bhp, and worse fuel consumption than the old M5)... But the 3.0 TFSI looks like a good motor, and it's easily chipable too :-) I found your video on a search for S4 owner reviews, but will take a look at your channel. Thanks.
Watched this with interest. I have an A4 Quattro black edition avant. I am on the verge of selling it as I hate the steering characteristics and 'tram lining' it suffers from. I just can't get used to it. I may try different tyres from the 255/35/19 that are on it. Good video btw.
Great vid! I've got a b8.5 a4 diesel and I hate it. Wanna get a petrol car so bad but my daily commute is 50 miles but you saying you can get 30 mpg has given me hope haha. New s4 avant is on the market but to me it's nowhere near as easy on the eye as this shape.
Make sure you look for the cars post 2012 I think as they did some mods to help economy. If you don't drive too hard the MPG isn't too bad. I have a review of the new S4 coming soon but I agree with you. I had my first look at one last weekend and I prefer the look of mine. The one I looked at was also £55k !!!!!!!! That is RS4 money !
Petrol Ped - I’m debating a new s4 Avant / sq5 or bmw 335d or 340i xdrive if available in the uk. Do 8k max per year so think diesel could be a problem with dpf. What do you Think?
I'd go for the S4. I love mine...simply the best car I have ever owned. The new petrol SQ5 is a superb car (ruclips.net/video/Z5TAyvEsbS8/видео.html) but I don't like the fake exhausts, I know that sounds like a little thing but it would be enough of a dislike to not buy the car. I can't comment of the BMWs as I've not driven them...but I'm an Audi kind of guy ;-)
Yep, still have it and still love it :-) Now nearly 6 years old with 60k miles but still tight as a drum and fast as a fast thing ! Thanks for the Sub. Glad you are enjoying my vids ;-)
That is great to hear! I have looked at all sorts recently, something to put the kids in but also offer the power and fun when you want. I cannot find anything that ticks as many boxes as the S4! Im S4 hunting now :-) Thanks Ped
Hi Pedro, been enjoying your wide-eyed reviews! I saw your Jag F-Type review and you obviously love your S4 so here's my question: All other factors aside, S5 or F-Type base model?
OMG...that like asking a father which child they prefer !! S5 is a strong contender for me, especially the new one. I've not driven the base F Type but the S Coupe I drove was stunning. Probably felt a bit more special than the Audi but if it's going to be a daily I'd be tempted with the S5. Before I bought my Mini I nearly bought an S5 Cab. Next car for me has to be a V8 F Type !
Hello, great piece of car you have there i love it! Can you please tell me, is this car good for a daily driver? Long/short distances? Also if you would had a choice of Audi S4 13/14 plate and audi A6 BiTdi 3.0L Diesel also 13/14 plate, which would you go for? Thank you :)
This car is the perfect daily. Short run fuel economy is going to be lower (20-25 mpg) but get it on a nice long run and low thirties is possible. If you give it the beans, which you will do every time you get in it, then 20-25 is again more likely. When we bought the S4 the other cars we considered were the 3.0L Diesel Quattro A4 Avant and the A6 Bi-Turbo. I never got to drive either as they are rare as rocking horse poo. Apparently the Bi-Turbo is a total weapon but you won't get the same soundtrack the S4 will give you. The S4 is the best car I have ever owned. The only thing that will replace it is likely to be another S4 !!
Petrol Ped Great! thank you for your reply I want a "family" car but not as any other boring car which feels like punishment to drive, i was thinking alot about a car i want and it came down to Audi S4 avant, Audi A6 BiTdi but also bmw 3/5 series estate and golf R estate. Bmw cars are nice overall but its not really a car you want be in to have fun and drive with your family, Golf R is just too expensive for a golf...2nd hand 15 plate is around 30k but i wouldn't pay more than 23/25k for a golf. And theres the Audi which in my opinion is one of the best car companies out there, it looks great, sounds great and you have amazing quattro system! Thank you for your reply, I know what im doing now :)
We've taken the S4 to the South of France 3 times now. It can carry a huge amount of luggage, 4 adults and a roof rack with 2 bikes on it and still do 0-60 in under 6 seconds and sit at 150 kmph for hour after hour. Epic car ! It is also great in the rain and snow...not sure I would say the same about a BMW !!
how is the suspension? Parents are thinking about buying one in Finland. Roads here are filled with potholes and lots of damage from the winter. Right now they have the F11 535dA m-sport with adaptive drive and before a Audi A7 with standard suspension and 19" rims. Its a comfortable car even on sport+. So would the S4 be too hard of a ride, especially with the 19" rims?
The roads I the UK are shocking and also full of potholes. The suspension is firm but deals with rough roads pretty well. It's not going to be as soft and comfy as a standard A4 but then it will go round corners much faster ;-)
...30 mpg is amazing for a car that has this performance. My previous Golf v5 170 did 30 mpg if I was luck doing 80 mph on motorway - 24 mpg on school runs! Have you thought about Revo Stage 1 like Chris Harris reviewed on his old S4?
Hi there. I love that Chris Harris video. Very tempted to try that mod but you need to update the brakes too which ends up being costly. It bet it's quick though ! I see that Chris is one of the new Top Gear presenters 😎
+Petrol Ped Yes, great news about Chris' appointment I was wondering whether he'd be considered but not many know him unless they're RUclipsrs - that'll change now.
Very helpful review. I too am considering either a 14-15 plate S4 or an A6 BiTdi 313ps. A6 gives a bit more space and a bit more fuel economy but can't let go of the thought of an S4. Any thoughts welcome.
+David Wederell We seriously considered the Bi-Turbo A6 but they are rare as rocking horse poo and we never got to drive one. The S4 is by far the best car I've ever owned. VERY fast, sounds awesome, hugely practical, looks great and the Quattro means you can drive hard in any conditions. Fuel economy if you get the post engine facelift (14-15 plate OK) isn't too bad. Early 30's on a long run. 20's if you have a heavy right foot 😜
Many thanks, really appreciate the quick feeback. I have tracked down an A6 with the spec and everything I want but an S4 with all the spec I want could come up this weekend so I am hedging my bets the S4 comes off otherwise I could miss out on the A6. Nice problem to have. Heart of hearts says S4 and your video confirmed it for me.
Hi Pete, crazy having owned one of these for 2 years and not knowing what the gear shift is for if you move in to the far left (UK driver-side) - as opposed to moving it back for sport mode. Any idea? I only use the paddle shift.
It locks it into manual so it stays in gear. If you just grab a paddle it will revert back to auto if you don't shift for a while or if it thinks it should change gear. I manual it is up to you. Give it a go, if you really want to engage with the drive it's great :-)
thanks i'll give it ago - we're even on tips now - remember the sun roof - pushing the button up partially open it.. - I see the RS5 has a 3.0l V6 which sound very similar to the S4 B8 - twin turbo mind you. I think if you remove the limiter on the S4 3.0 - it'll not be left behind.
Very relaxing drive. We just drove to the south of France and back with no worries. When you drop it in sport mode it changes character. We've been lucky with repairs so far and just had the normal main dealer servicing which is very reasonable. Tyres aren't too bad either.
I can't recommend them enough. Check out my '5 Thing I Love about my S4' vid too. I couldn't do a 5 things I hate as there aren't any !!! They do everything really well. Practical, very fast, sound great and the MPG isn't too bad. Good luck with the search and thanks for the Sub :-)
It has the power and torque but I’m not sure it would have enough towing weight. Also, if you do get a tow bar, make sure you spec it from new or buy a car with one. Audi quoted me £1600 to fit one !
I can assure you they do. This is most definitely an S4 Avant Black Edition. It gives you de-chromed from grill, privacy glass, upgraded stereo and may also have different seats and wheels. It's a cosmetic trim and equipment level rather than performance increase. You are quite right that Mercedes do 'Black' cars but the are called 'Black Series' which are their high performance upgrades available to some AMG cars such as the CLK63 AMG Black Series. I hope that makes sense :-)
Hope fully you’ll see me videos have come on a long way since then 😜😂
This helped make up my mind to go for one of these that came up for grabs, 2015 model buying in 2022. Great review 👍
This is one of my first reviews filmed 7 years ago 😮

Mate thank you i have just purchased a 2012 S4 Avant arrives in a few days because of this video she looks mean as.
No way ! Justin you are going to LOVE it...the best car I have owned to date. It does everything so well and at the end of the day is bloody quick and will put a smile on your face !
Such an amazing machine
It's a great car that's for sure :-)

We've owner our car 4 years now and still love it :-)
Thanks, you've pretty much convinced me I want to buy one...
Great, I'll tell Audi :-)
This was one of my first ever RUclips videos. I've come a long way since then !

Just bought an S4 just like yours but darl metalic blue - can't wait until it arrives! Like the colour of your - don'r see them anywhere. Jason
You are going to love it. A fantastic looking car.
Excellent review!
One of my very first. I've come a long way since then 👍
Fantastic video, thanks, I’ve made my mind up I’m getting one
They are superb vehicles. We still love ours :-)
Love the car and your leather jacket, very envious lol
Thanks. Don't often get complements on what I wear !

Nice review man!
Cheers !
I had the new TTS on test today. Keep and eye out for the video...it's EPIC ! Hopefully live on Sunday evening.
Good review would like to see the new s4 please
I am trying to get the new S4, but I will be hopefully getting access to the new RS4 early in the New Year :-)

Subscribed, your channel is brilliant, very well put together with a clear passion for motors! S4 looks awesome, do you still have it?

So, i was looking at in the next few months maybe buying a skoda 230 estate or a seat 280 estate.............Now i'm hooked on these...
S4 every day of the week and twice on Sunday !
nice drive, could you tell us if the exhaust has been modified or is it stock?
The whole car is stock. No mods at all :-)
Hi there, is it b8 or b8,5 ?
Thanks, great review
B8.5 👍
Petrol Ped Excellent, thanks for that , so how is that work some of 2012 are b8 and some are b8,5 🤔
Petrol Ped Excellent, thanks for that , so how is that work some of 2012 are b8 and some are b8,5 🤔
They did an update in 2012 👍
I’ve been searching for nice S4 2013/14 but there is not many around , in fact I only have seen one on the road in last few months in London
Hello, got mine today, fantastic car... Can you tell what Psi you are running on front and rears, my tyres are Pilot sports 19's...
Thanks.

Thanks again for your comments. Does/did your S4 have the Audi Drive Select on it? If so, is it a must?
Hello! I am looking to pick up a 2011 S4, going from an A5 2.0 TDI. Would you do it?
In a heartbeat...simply brilliant car. I've had this one for 5 years :-)
