Liz G. reported today: "A beautiful sunrise with pink skies as I watch E23 at old cam 2 tree. After that start flying from snag to another snag, also getting harass by Mockingbird. Something caught my eyes at the road , even E23 was looking at it as well - the constant flying by low towards the traffic and back to church area and through the cables, E23 was trying to grab a road kill, which I promptly removed while E23 was perch on a tree, it was a road kill cat . Then my friend Barb also help and safely removed and put it in a box in the dumpster, safe E23 life by getting hit by a car, was getting really dangerous and scary and E23 take off to the nest. F23 was around as well she was at Oak Tree while E23 exploring other areas, then F23 went to the nest and E23 follow . Couple of eagles flew by 2 Sub Adults then an adult eagle as well soaring, F23 and E23 were watching . F23 take off . E23 take off then minutes later M15 came with fish I can hear squeee coming lol E23 arrived and claimed the fish , start eating and M15 move to the attic watching E23 . E23 finish, still some leftovers then M15 went to the nest and E23 again my fish dad , lesson for E23 nothing goes to waste; better eat it or Dad will. E23 ate it all . M15 take off and E23 follow dad .As I leave I saw a glimpse was too fast to get it , M15 dive down to the water while E23 watch . Was really cool , too bad didn't get there on time to get it on video . Good moment that Dad is teaching E23 how is done. Thanks for removing road kill, Liz, and thanks for the report, LH. I dread the possibility of roadkill results in fast traffic getting our eagles. I hope there is a solution that aims at preventing this. Love to our eagles and this nest.

Just another reminder how the valuable ground photographers gift us all w/awesome captures of views we would never see otherwise. I truly think E23 prefers being fed and it cracks me rt up every time! So many times, E23 leaves fd but has hissy fit if parent goes to nest to take it over, then insisting they get fed OR they then steal the food back!😂 Glad they removed the poor kitty's remains from roadside to save any birdies from danger. Reminds me how there is a video out there by another ground photographer - wskrsnwings - where she shared how M15 was trying to have at alligator remains on the roadside some time ago. She took pix of the remains, after getting it well away from the road. That's also a great reminder that yes indeed, 'gators can be found in Fort Meyers, FL, despite so many last year saying otherwise. 🤣😉 ~Anyhoo - thanks LH - hope everyone enjoys a great day out there = eclipse day! 😎☀🌒

I would not have handled the cat thing either 😿 I'm thinking of our Lily's thank God all are kitty's are indoor pet's😺 just saw a close call with F23 🙀 I just signed the petition to lower the speed limit! Gotta keep our eagles safe😺 we have alot of strays where I live and alot of coyotes too, one morning I looked out my kitchen window about 6:00 in morning and saw at first a runaway dog on my neighbors lawn across the road and thought it got a cat 😭 nope it was a coyote and it had something couldn't tell but it was there about 45 mins .So when my hubby got home I told him and he walked over there and it had gotten an 🦉. It was 84 here today and 87 tomorrow then back downstairs to the 60s then maybe rain sat. Oh how I'm dreading summer I cannot stand the heat either 😭 Have a goodnight neighbor ❣️🌿❣️🌷

He always watches even just letting his dog out in the backyard to do his business. Scary! They're very bold! The sounds the coyotes make at night are so eerie sounding! The heat wasn't bad here today. For us it's supposed to start cooling down tomorrow for the 🌧️ ☔ rain coming again this weekend. You're more inland then us, so you're really getting the heat! I always worry about the eagles getting hit by a car, especially the young ones after they fledge. E23 is looking happy and healthy. M15 and F23 keeping the young eagle well-fed. And teaching E how to fish.
Thank you Mliz for the beautiful photos and for saving our baby and family by removing the Dead cat . I heard the community is trying to lower the speed in that area to prevent an accident with the eagles. Now is 50mph! Hope they pass it. Thank you again 💓 💖 🦅🦅🦅

It's unfortunate our eagles don't avoid road kills as it puts them in constant danger. Too bad parenting can't cover this topic and sad so many eagles are lost this way

Hi Schen they very well may be permanent! I wish we could know for sure and see E23 after its first molt. I am going to always think of E23 as having Dad's white shoulder tuffs though!! ♥♥ AND when we see a juvie or sub adult in the next 1-3 years that has these white tuffs - that could be our E23 !!!! 🤍🤍

Hello Suzanne Liz is a local photographer who lives close to the nest and watches, observes and photographs the eagles! She does not get to go every day but she is there at least 2-3 times a week! What I was trying to say is I wish it were innate that eagles know to avoid road kill, but that's not how it works
