Francis Ellis. Hey, I remember this fella! I liked him a lot, if I recall. This is gonna be a good six minutes... "That's the first time I learned that she had not been trying." (suggesting that he will need to learn this again at some point...) 8/10
Tina Friml. Oh, my god. I paused it at the literal one-second mark because I wasn't ready for it to start playing. The horrifying face she was screeching out of looks like the monster from Barbarian. Hopefully she keeps up that wildly over-the-top SHE'S GONNA EAT ME energy for the whole ten minutes... Then I unpaused it and imMEdiately felt like a huge piece of shit. Moving on. "I'm at the gym 24/7--this body doesn't just happen." made me bark-laugh. I'm always torn between accepting that comics are supposed to write what they know and eye-rolling at comics who only write jokes about their ONE thing. She proved herself better than that with the whole "Get that rabbit! Get it!" bit. 10/10
Katie Hannigan. Calling it "al dente" was funny, the rest of this was not. 3/10
Tom Thakkar. I watched a podcast with Jeselnik on as a guest before watching this and maybe shouldn't've, because this was just so far on the other end of the comedy spectrum that it was all cringe for me. 2/10
Crucified. Dead of Sleep. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Slow down, guys! Why so fast? …Ahhhh, theeere ya go. Now isn’t that nice? Oh, c’mon! It was so nice! No notes. Even those Wylde squeals are fine. 6.5/10
Tommy:
Adrienne Iapalucci. The Dark Queen. If you’re on Louis CK’s mailing list, you’ve already read the best things that can be said about Adrienne. I was one of them who absolutely loved her set when she opened for Louis’ MSG stream. Also loved the other assignment we’ve had with her. She’s so deliciously evil. I am SO glad she’s getting the Netflix treatment. Firstly, I find it funny that the subtitles just said “announcer” instead of naming Ari. Speaking of the subtitles, I’m sure Adrienne would love to know how often they put “[smacks lips]” in there. Phew. “You kinda freestyled there.” “Who wants old countertops, especially when everyone’s gonna come to your house for the funeral?” “[audience groans and laughs]” was for sure copy and pasted just as often as the lip-smacking was, and it’s why I love her. Also… just when you think that she’s recycling a bit, you realize that no-ohmygod, no-she absolutely is not. She found a way to push it even further. Gold. Also, fuck you, Netflix, for thinking I was done with it when I paused it to read the end of the end credits and just skipping to promoting whatever your [censored trigger word] algo thought I should watch next. I’ve never seen a “Thanks For Nothing” before and apparently, I still can’t. I hate the world. 10/10
En Love. Fled. It was over before I sat down, and I was movin’ at quite a clip. Clippin’ faster’n that feller on the album cover. Zippity-like. 7/10
Also, when you boys have metalheads on, I have to have my Notes open and ready, because the whole episode will be peppered with bands that I have to look up. 🎉
