@@MGVK2277 Thanks for sharing Rydaar! If your friends can't respect your decisions if they differ from their own, they aren't being great friends.. hopefully they'll come around and possibly even be inspired by your decision!

I deleted my account a few days ago. Only 2 persons contacted me since.
Deleting my account was something i wanted to do for a long time. but i was in a relationship and these days, if you're not on Instagram and dont have an account in which being tagged...you dont exist.
i was afraid of my bf cheating on me if I was "not there to verify everything was alright"
He cheated on me anyway. Now I'm single and plan to be in that state for a long time.
sometimes I wonder what is to have a relationship these days if you dont have an ig. Sincerely I'm still afraid of being disrespected and taken for a fool because "I can't find out".

Like my math teacher said last year, "when you're using your phone instead of listening to someone, you're telling them 'my phone is more important than you'" once she told me that, it really stuck to me and I still think about it to this day.

What a profound truth from your math teacher. Thanks for sharing! It's so true, I've heard a statement similar to that and it is definitely one that sticks because it's true. I hope lots of people see your comment and it sticks with them as well!

I 100% agree, social media is toxic for relationship. I used to be very bad at being distracted but in the last couple of years have become more aware. Since my partner and I met we never used our phones while out eating ect. And we always noticed so many people just preoccupied by their phones. I believe it screams what I’m looking at on my phone, or who I’m talking to, is more important then the person in front of me. Which is such a sad reality of what social media is doing, it’s taking us away from reality. Thank you for starting this discussion. The world is losing some of its most beautiful qualities and connections and we need to start speaking about it! 🌱 sending you love.

Thank you so much for sharing! I’m sure you and your partner are great examples to those around you of connection and attentiveness. That’s so important and hopefully inspiring to many people out there who you come in contact with! I agree with you that the wold is losing those things and err do need to speak up. Thanks again for sharing!! 💛

Going based off what you said about relationships and posting, something that has always struck me as unfortunate and strange is the validity people need and get from their partner posting them. When I tell people that my boyfriend doesn’t post me, I’ve gotten the comments like “oh he’s hiding you” or “he’s cheating on you” several times. It’s absurd and rude to say something like that to someone, but I quickly learned that comments like those are coming from a place of insecurity. My boyfriend rarely posts as it is, but we have an everyday life together outside of social media. We live together, we talk, we work through any arguments/troubles, and social media has never been something that we’ve needed to confirm that. The whole posting thing has always been something I find interesting.

Hey Koni! Thanks for sharing your experience. How crazy people actually say those types of things to you..yes i agree it's definitely them coming from a place of insecurity. It's strange how now a days it seems that external validation that partners are needing to get from other people seems more important to them than the health of the actual relationship. I love that social media has never been something you guys have needed in to confirm anything in your relationship. That's how it's always been with my husband and I as well even before we got married. Thank you again for sharing!!

_yeah the bike analogy was wonderful. You don't know what's going on behind the scenes of anyone's life_

  • @_TonyCrossroads

I love how you crafted the bike story/analogy because this social media thing is really taking our minds and hearts away from what really matters. Instead of helping us connect it’s making us compare and divide ourselves more and more. It’s like social media made us practice social distancing long before COVID even came on the scene. I find that it’s made dating a bit harder too because although we have more ways to meet people, it’s all so surface level that we don’t take the time to truly get to know someone. Plus, it’s boring when you meet a nice woman but all she’s concerned about is taking pictures or videos for snap/insta and seeing what other people have going on. So Nowadays I’m off social media and just focusing on me, grad school, my goals and being more present and in the moment. Also, random but have you read the book Race After Technology by Ruha Benjamin? I highly recommend it.

A couple days ago, I got a Snapchat for the first time. I got it knowing that it can be very addictive from other anti-social media videos. I wanted it for the sole purpose of keeping in touch with my friends during the lockdowns. But as I finally got to talk with them, they seemed different... I don't know how to explain it. They didn't make an effort to talk to me all that much and with one friend in particular, I now feel as though I'm the only person keeping our friendship together. I'm thinking of letting her go because of it. It feels as though our friendship hasn't mattered at all even though we've been friends since middle school. Part of me wants to let her go and part of me tries to say that I can try to bring us closer. The fact is, we've changed so much and I don't know what makes us friends anymore. What do I do?

I think for me it's RUclips. Taking a break from this feels very difficult and in a sense this is the first social media I started on, and as a result I'm most familiar with it. To be honest I'm a bit afraid to get off for long, but I know that the spirit of fear isn't something that comes from the Lord.

I totally agree. I got rid of my Instagram last month because i would be getting girls trying to get to know me so they would send me requests to follow me on Instagram but i was kind of reluctant to because i don't really know if they're real or fake accounts, and my girlfriend kept wondering why i was getting friend requests notifications all the time. I believe i made the right choice and i've been happy with the decision i made.
