Good content. Just 2 days ago in central Illinois a young man went outside his apt. at 1:00 a.m. to check on a noise. Four guys were breaking into cars. They shot him dead. Instead of stashing the 2 mags in the back pocket, consider getting a surplus bandolier for your bump kit. They're like $5, can hold 3 pmags, and small enough to conceal under a coat if you wanted to be a little discrete
Get a LTE enabled Game camera with night vision and motion detection. You can set it up to cover any road to your house. Then if have a picture of any incoming threat. You can quickly tell whether it's a neighbors car or not. No vehicle can get within a mile of me without me knowing.
I live in the middle of a small rural town, but strangely isolated. No neighbors worth mentioning. All old, blind, poor health kind of folks, so I’m on my own. I have a deep fenced backyard. I utilize the Trigger Cannon trip wires to alert me of any trespassers. Because I have chickens, the tripwires are also handy in repelling dogs , fox or coyotes, which we have in our town. God bless south Mississippi, right? Awesome video. Got me to thinking of some essentials. 👍
Not a lawyer but if there is an altercation that involves the use of deadly force on your part, it may be wise to have a cover story as to why you walked outside with a gun to investigate something at night. B/c some prosecutors/judges will try to blame you for not calling the cops first and putting yourself in a situation you knew was dangerous from the beginning. I would say something like "I was checking on my chickens b/c they was acting crazy and I have had a problem foxes getting in the chicken coop. That's why I brought the gun."
That all depends on where you live. In many places around the US, it’s considered entirely normal to check out weird sounds at night with a rifle in hand.
whether its a temporary portable shelter or your homestead, get nv cameras and floodlights mounted in strategic places around your camp and keep a flare gun and smoke bombs ready. If you get in a defensive skirmish, intel is your best weapon, raise every alarm you can, and obscure your attacker's vantage point to use your own terrain knowledge to your advantage. Even without a firearm, you'd still possess a massive force multiplying advantage, if not to fight back, to evade and escape an outgunning and outnumbering opfor.
This is what I appreciate about your videos......situations based in real life that we are way more likely to encounter and how we would respond to them
Excellent, thanks. Recently took the leap tp PVS14, no prior experience with NV. I live in a similar terrain to yours, so when it's dark, it's dark. With minimal moonlight, starshine it's incredible how much I can see through my forest. That said, simple moving around is pretty challenging. I guess it's going to take practice and time, much different than "normal" vision. Can't just throw that stuff on and roll.
Oh yeah.. On both haha. What you can see now is absolutely amazing. I caught a comet up in the night sky last week. Amazing 👍 And yeah moving about is a whole new world. I've learned to let my non-NV eye adjust and provide as much extra as possible. Walking your property during the daylight is a good first step too. Establish a route and where's what during the day and then, slowly, start doing dark stuff.
One of the best things you can do around your home is to mark every tree and shrub in your mind. Know to the foot where everything is, verifying each shape, size, and distance. The reason is, because it's very easy to jump at every shadow and sound. Especially when you're nervous.
i do pretty much all the same stuff for my night walks. but i need to drink a few high ABV beers before i have the balls to walk the creekbed after midnight heh.
Yep. Learned a lot in this video.. Appreciate the knowledge on that one. Looking forward to Season 4! Yes, I'm still gonna invest in Crossfire pack or two.
atvs are cool but if you really trying to get the jump on someone get something electric powered for no noise stealth and the neighbor needs to get his own thermal lol walking around with a head lamp 😂 wtf haha
Hey @gruntproof Randall, the bag you have "waiting" by the door, looks like basically an assault pack. I tried to find a video you might have already done for it's loadout but dont see it. Might make for a good video also. Thanks
I have a 15 acre homestead. Let me tell you boys how it goes down. I have pre loaded grain scoops with sweet feed to lure my bull or livestock back in. Headlamps at the ready and fence snips and bailing twine. Y'all aint ready
@GruntProof I have been on the fence, and debating the PEQ or NGAL, I'd rather put the other $200 into the savings towards PVS14, I have a Sionyx, but it has a shit ton of short comings vs a PVS14. Thanks for the reply.

100% agree with the premise of this video, except I would say to practice your home defense plans. Plural.

Cameras or something similar to help detect whatever is bumping around
