Many years ago when my 4 sons were still at home, I found this recipe in one of my many cook books. I fixed it in an electric skillet and let it simmer for several hours, until fork tender. Needless to say it was a big hit and I've been making Swiss steak ever since. Living alone now I don't make very much at a time, but what's left makes great left overs! I think it's time to make Swiss steak again. it's so good! Thanks for bringing back the memories from years gone by!
Like I said in my video, it brings back memories for me too. Food has an odd way of doing that. I do hope you get to try it in the slow cooker, it does freeze very well. Have a great week.
It’s cold in Kansas today so I’m thinking I am probably going to relax, Theo a quilt over me and binge watch your videos. Just found them today thanks to Jenny Goughs Crocktober.
So thankful for slow cookers. Looks yummy. I've never put leftover tomato paste in freezer. Always put it in a jar with lid in fridge where it usually got moldy lol. TFS
Put this together after watching this. In the slow cooker now. Also thank you for the tomato paste tip, already got the left over tomato paste in freezer.
Tomato Paste Trick: I open both ends of the can and use one of the ends like a plunger to push the paste out the other end. It comes out in nice little rounds that you can slice off as you push it through into approximate tablespoon size. Freeze on parchment paper on a small cookie sheet and store in the freezer for use later.
For those of you who are trying to make this in an Insta-Pot: Brown your meat in a skillet then transfer to Insta-Pot along with all the veggies. I recommend cooking down your veggies a bit prior to adding them. This will help with flavor and allow you to “cook out” your tomato paste. Set Insta-Pot to Pressure Cook (High) for 25-30 minutes. After releasing the pressure I remove the steaks and use an immersion blender to smooth out the gravy even further. ITS WORTH IT 🤗
Had all but forgotten this recipe from the past. Thanks for reminding me! Looks terrific. Did your mom teach you to cook? You could tell us on your videos if you cannot answer here. My mother-in-law didn’t teach my husband to cook, but he did long for some of his childhood menus and learned to put those together. Don’t imagine he could ever do a video, though.
I know I’ve made this before but it’s been many many years ago. I’ll ask my son if it’s something he’d like or like me to try. Slow cookers are great when I have errands to do, busy about the house or just plain don’t feel like cooking. I don’t ever buy this type of steak but if I recall correctly it’s a cheaper cut (thus the longer cook time) so that’d be great.
I am definitely going to make this in my slow cooker. We had swiss steak (aka steak and tomato gravy or Sunday dinner steak) often when growing up. Mama always used full cut round I have never been able to come close to the flavor of hers. Maybe I rush mine too much so the slow cooker seems ideal. I love the tomato paste idea.
Wonderful recipe! Would make tonight but I already have chicken out so, it will be tomorrow’s dinner. Hubbers loves Swiss Steak. I know some people put leftover paste in ice cube trays to freeze but I put mine in the little snack bags then I can just break off the amount I need. In the ‘s over here in Crescent City after ALL that rain and wind we got Saturday and ALL day Sunday. What’s going on in your area? Much rain? Sending Blessings Greg!
No. I wanted to see a piece cut up and a bite taken. Don’t know what the inside looked like or how tender it was for you to eat a piece. Bummer. What I saw looked good.
I love that tomato paste tip! BRILLIANT!
Thanks Emma

I love slow cooking! Especially on days I know we'll be busy.
Me too!!
Wish the sound was better but thank you for sharing. My dad loved my mom's but I didn't know how she did it. She served it with mashed potatoes.
Sorry again about my audio issues

Yes, my mother, both grandmothers and my aunt Carol all had a hand in teaching me to love cooking
Looked very delicious ! I like the way you did that 😂 I subscribed “ Thanks”
Thank you so much

Yes, the cheaper cuts only need longer cooking and they are just as tasty as the more expensive cuts of beef.
Hi Greg! This looks 👌 🔥 I've not tried this in a slow cooker but I will!
Try it, it is so easy
