Mike! Been showing your channel to other people every chance I get. You really don’t see the quality, intelligence and depth in other RUclips channels, truly amazing work.
This thing has a "record" sound to it somehow. There are some plugins that you put on the master or a stem and you hear it say "record" and this is one of them, it seems to me. I'm blown away too Michael. Thanks for your in-depth overview and impassioned conclusion, btw. We want that. We love knowing what you really think! Emotion speaks volumes!! Thank you!
Excellent review, Mike. Thanks! This is actually on sale this weekend for $45 bucks at the time of me writing this. Makes it even more of an absolute no brainer now. I am curious though, do you feel as though anything else has come out over the last 3+ year that can rival this or at least give it a run for its money? Thanks again for the great review.
Probably gonna pick this up. Lately in my own projects where I’m shaping the stems from the start, I’ve been trying to use various types of saturation *instead* of EQ. I’ll do high passing and all that, but will try to get things to sit right with harmonic content before going surgical. It tends to just make things sound more interesting and full
Just wanted to chime in and thank you for another great review, I bought harmonics on sale and wasn’t sure about it, but am finding it increasingly useful.
@Michael White thank you very much for the overview and a major thanks for the 4k 50fps resolution...it made watching this video very very pleasant and modern.
this is definitely my favorite saturation plugin for the drum bus. often I like to drive the input up more so you can get more crunch out of it, which you did not show in this demo. So much flexibility in this plugin
Sold. I just noticed ST had this one on sale... and OMG - I’m loving the versatility. I liked your idea about it’s application during mastering. Thx what you do. I always ask myself now “what does Michael think of this plugin?” when I come across ones I’ve never heard before. Cheers.
Hi, Mike! Do you think it's possible to use Harmonics in such a way as to emulate console summing for subgroups and the master, similar to the UAD Luna summing extensions? I've never had experience with hardware summing to know how to go about simulating it with software, if at all possible.
Hi Michael, thanks for this review; informative and top notch as always! Definitely will be on the lookout for a sale on this one. I was wondering, how do you go about creating the pure low 808 tone, or what are some of the ways to simulate? I've been wondering that as I don't usually work with genres where I'd employ it. Would be useful to know nonetheless. Thanks!
I am not the right resource for creating 808 tones. The essence of it is just a low freq sine wave, but the right oscillator is where I will fall short for good advice.
Hi. Usually this are pure, very low sine waves. Most synths OSC can beverage them. Often they are distorted so they can be heard better and not only felt. You also can add a sub harmonic synth to them which creates an even lower bass part one octave lower for example. Feel free to try out what you like best, they can be modulated in all kinds of ways or treated with efx. If you are looking for an all in one solution try the FAW plugin, it's very good and has tons of options to create your very own 808 sound. Cheers
@Luke's Plays you're welcome :) Btw, it's a nice thing to combine those sine waves with an initial transient click via a sample or a short burst of noise, filters with a snappy filter envelope. Many options here. Stay safe and sound
I am not familiar with the Plytec Aroma plugin but this is different than the VSM-3 which offers Fet and Zener saturation only. Overall I think there is more flexibility to shape the tone with this plugin.
bro this emualate a alot of saturation unit so i don't think it could go against the ssl one. Softube Harmonics Types: Solid = Solid State Logic 4000 E Channel Recording / Mixing Console Transf = API Mixing Console Master = Mastering Tube = Chandler EMI TG12413 (Zener Limiter) Modern = Thermionic Culture Vulture
Best plugin overviews every time thanks Michael
Cheers!
@@mixingwithmike the solid & transf are emulating the preamp section of the console i like tracking trough them hahahaha.

Thanks Christian! I appreciate the support...
You always give THE BEST background and usage info.

17:43 that was a good test there. That is actually what impressed me the most. The guys at Softube should be really proud of this one.
Thanks God I found this channel

One of the nicest saturation tools I've heard so far.
Thank you again Mike. I’m always learning new things from your videos. Great review of this plug.

me too i pair it with the bx_console 4000 E or 9000 J to remediate for the color that these console emulation are missing, i use it on the solid type.
Great review - Great song

Mike, your videos are the best mixing content on RUclips - thanks. Plugin of the Week request: UA API Vision Channel Strip
Wow, I thought I had already done a review of the API Vision Strip. Hmmm...
Cheers!
@@mixingwithmike Using it right now for a project - checking your reviews before using a plugin always gives me insights.
Cool ya you explain in detail what I want and need to understand... thanks

beautiful review as always Michael. Am really missing a Sc filter for the detector or this. Other than that, fantastic plugin

Michael, thanks informative review! What do you think how good it is compared to vsm-3 and ploytec aroma on 2 bus?
I am not familiar with the Plytec Aroma plugin but this is different than the VSM-3 which offers Fet and Zener saturation only. Overall I think there is more flexibility to shape the tone with this plugin.
@@mixingwithmike thanks for response! need to demo it
Have you used the Klanghelm SDRR? I believe they have a similar dynamics section on their plugin as well. Still, this looks really cool!
I prefer the mjuc mk2 saturation, Also without compression ..
Is it doing something that FabFilter Saturn can't do ?
I like the FabFilter Saturn plugin, but think this is far superior overall.
anyone with a comparisson between SSL compressor X and this one?
bro this emualate a alot of saturation unit so i don't think it could go against the ssl one.

@@aviatedviewssound4798 Awesome to know. Thank you. Yeah, not totally convinced with the SSL Sat. X.
The less a plugin does sonically, the more expensive and elite it is.
You need to learn what to listen for. If you focus on frequency response you are only getting 10% of what this is doing.
I’m gonna make a plugin that does nothing to the sound and charge thousands.
You don't hear any difference? Really?
If you don’t hear what this is doing then just keep it. You’ll get there someday.
@@mixingwithmike hahahaha mike he's just starting probably a student
