Love this show!! Love the fast pace and the fact that all 3 contestants have a chance to answer correctly on each question. Much better than more recent shows where they take an hour to ask 12 questions.. Wish they would try to bring this show back somehow.
I always liked this show. It aired weekdays at 12:30PM on ABC. Used to watch it during the Summer and school vacations (I was in Jr. High when it premiered.) I remembered the last show of the series clearly. The man who won the game tried for the Pontiac Safari Station Wagon. Monty Hall was there also, as "Split Second" was a "Stefan Hatos/Monty Hall Production." The station wagon did not start and Monty said "Why don't you take the station wagon anyway." So the last "winner" didn't win the car, but got it anyway.
This was a show I used to watch back in the seventies because I always loved to see what cars were going to be on the show because it was either Pontiacs, Chevys, & on rare occasion, Buick in 1973, I wouldn’t mind having any of those Chevys they’re all classics
When it came to this show, this show was fast pace and Tom was masterful at hosting this hard quizzer. The one thing I really didn't like was the judging. The judge was a real stickler.
This is quite a find! I never understood why this was never tried again after Monty Hall's inferior version. Tom Kennedy deftly handled this complex quizzer.
The game show community is going to love to see this rare upload. Even as a black and white kine, it hasn't been seen since its original broadcast in 1974. The first episode of which the end is seen here is from May 1974 or later in 1974 as a star mentioned in one of the theater questions died on 4/30/74, and the cars are 1974 models.
The cars are also de-tuned pieces of junk!! Triple teamed by the insurance companies, public safety and the oil embargo forced US automakers to drop horsepower rating in most cars.
Oh I didn't like how the judges were on this version. They were too strict. Monty was dismayed at how the judge was so damn hard on those poor contestants.
As fast-paced as this show was, I was disappointed at the paltry money amounts (even by early 1970s standards), and also the Countdown Round. Someone could be a total genius, yet had to give only 1 or 2 less responses than contestants who could be wayyyyy behind in the regular score. I preferred Who What or Where Game, which ran at the same time; but being 25 minutes shorter than SS, I could change the channel and peek to see if the car would start. 😁
@@adenharrison4543 if I were reviving it, I'd tweak the payout system: each question in round 1 has a $150 pot, a correct answer wins a share of the pot (a la tattletales) if all 3 miss, the money carries over, 2nd round $300 pots, countdown round goes to the 6 5 4 format. Bonus round: 60 seconds, the contestant is asked a series of 3 part questions, each correct part $200, a bonus $200 for getting all 3 parts of a question, getting to $2,000 adds a bonus prize that increases in value each time the contestant returns, the 5th prize being a car. Champs retire after 5 wins.

"Much better than more recent shows where they take an hour to ask 12 questions." Amen!

Perhaps the greatest hard quizzer of all time. I hope more of these pop up.
I loved this show! Thank you for sharing.

Well, just like singer Meatloaf says “Now don’t feel sad. Because 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. “

It was piloted in 1990, but wasn't sold. I've heard there is possibly a revival in the works but don't quote me on that.
Tom was a great host. MH was terrible as the host of this show.
I love this game
RIP Tom Kennedy
Rare to see Tom without glasses on.
The glasses are barely visible, but they're there! 😁
for the record the right car was in the other side of the end game stage

You got that right BD. The show would've been better if it was on 1970 and before.
i want a car very bad had a great time what car did you win
Quite a finish, especially with a late call (frantic buzzing by the officials) that waved off the initial win.

Since it got cut off, what car was the one that started
So if you didn’t get the car I assume you could come back and if you win again it would be 1 in 4 chance
Yes, that's right. And if you won 5 days in a row, you got to pick the car you wanted.

If it came back what would be the payout?

What was this show aired????
I didn't know they were Malibus back then
The Chevrolet Malibu name has been around since the 1960's.
The MONTY HALL Version of SPLIT SECOND is on BUZZR Weekend Mornings
Does Joan win the car in this episode and if so which car did she win, or if not, what was the winning car?
Apparently, she was one of the two people in a row who won a car.
which one is it
