It wasn't about winning, it was about exposure. A contract with Simon would have derailed her career. Months after AGT Champions, she signed a well-negotiated contract with Republic Records. It was important for her to be introduced to North America. As for the violinist he won AGT a couple of years prior to the champions. His story is incredible, and he got the golden buzzer and was a golden buzzer who actually won. He picked up violin as a positive means of countering the bullying... he was bullied over having cancer... He loved it and practiced constantly, obviously had a knack for it as my grandpa would say. AJ did not sign the normal AGT agreement to give her career to AGT. She kept control of her career and ownership of her songs so there is a lot of questions as to whether she was not allowed to win since it would have been a financial loss for AGT.
It was known going in on both sides that she could not win with out contracts but both sides decide it would be good for AGT ratings and good interduction to USA for AJ. I think there may have been hope in both sides for a win and a contract but Angelina won big time less than a year later when Republic Records signed her even with the strict stipulation her parents had on her schooling and her owning her music ,,, RR knew what they were getting and were glad to wait for her to graduate
As for her not winning... It had something to do with pre-selected voters... And only a small handlful of select people (like 30 give or take) from around the united states that got to vote... But someone ran a survey (have to google it)... Where 66% people wanted Angelina to win... So in other words if the audience got to vote... she would have won. That's what I've read.. is it true? I'm not so sure.

She didn't win because she wouldn't sign with Simon. She wanted to but her family stopped her. Simon told her she wouldn't win if she didn't sign. He was so pissed. He had money in his eyes and Angelina was enamored by him, so he thought it was a done deal.
