It's alright but if you ever get the chance, find the original Captain Marvel serials. Effects for the time was really good and their suit game was tight.

I had these on VHS as a youngster. I have enjoyed revisiting them in adulthood. Despite the many shortcomings, it’s actually well-written as a plot. Really love the rifftrax treatment too!
The worst part is, it was so unnecessary to make Wayne Manor a suburban bungalow. It's not like they didn't have options--as the Riffers point out later, misanthropic Professor Hammil has a better Wayne Manor than Batman does. Perhaps they wanted to draw a contrast between Batman and the Wizard (who also has a secret cave hideout), or give Bruce a less-posh image. But it's still an awful choice. The severe low budget and the desolate settings of Gotham "City" are forgivable, but the idea of Batman and Robin bailing out of Bruce Wayne's car and running in and out of Bruce Wayne's crummy cottage in broad daylight is not.
It's funny seeing people realize the "Batmobile" didn't really become "The Batmobile" until like the 1950s, maybe even the 1960s. Before then, it was literally just a generic bright red 1940s sports car. Maybe got an update to 50s style in, well, the 50s. But it didn't get the slick black paintjob and Batman-branded modifications and that big...bat head...face...thing embedded on the grill until about the late 50s to mid 60s or so. In fact, this very serial is what introduced the character of Alfred and the Batcave into the Batman mythos.

It's so weird to imagine how things were back then even basic tailoring was kind of a luxury. If it didn't involve a set pattern like a jacket and slacks, you just kinda had to improvise. I'm more concerned by the ridiculous long nose, and the way the ears are on his forehead. The 40s batman did have kinda V-shaped ear profiles, but they weren't little antenna turds like that.
Look, they didn't have the impossible standards back then. It was OK if a superhero's ears weren't ALWAYS erect. Besides, he wasn't sleeping well and was under a lot of stress.

I first saw this, and the 43 serial when I was in 2nd grade in 1990. The year before I saw the Adam West show on the Family channel. Took a few years to realize this serial was the inspiration for the camp of the 60s show. I love the well deserved riffing this serial gets and I will always have a soft spot in my heart for this serial too. Its low budget, full of plot holes and still better than The schumacher films.

Yes; it's very, very sad; because the late great, Adam West knew when to tone things down as Batman, and knew when to get people hyped up as Batman, and we'll never forget that about him. This take on Batman, however? Might be the most hilariously bad take on the Dark Knight I've ever seen; and this was created by Batman's original creator, Bob Kane; and this STILL looked worse than Adam West's 60's Batman. But, we all know that the best Batman was always the 90s animated series, though.
Context is important. This was a low-budget serial that was made to entertain 10-year-old boys before the main film features started back in 1949. Also, at that time, Superman was by far the most popular character for DC so a secondary character like Bats got a lower budget. The Superman serials from about the same era have somewhat better production values.
Mean while at Wayne Upper Middle Class Suburban House, Batman works tirelessly to repair the Bat Factory Stock Studebacker.
Forgot to mention he bought that Studebaker used off of Fozzie Bear.

Is it sad that this “serious” series is more ridiculous than the campy Adam West Batman?
Yes; it's very, very sad; because the late great, Adam West knew when to tone things down as Batman, and knew when to get people hyped up as Batman, and we'll never forget that about him. This take on Batman, however? Might be the most hilariously bad take on the Dark Knight I've ever seen; and this was created by Batman's original creator, Bob Kane; and this STILL looked worse than Adam West's 60's Batman. But, we all know that the best Batman was always the 90s animated series, though.
Just like the gangsters in Radar Secret Service, every one of the gangsters in this looks like every single other one of the gangsters in this.

Context is important. This was a low-budget serial that was made to entertain 10-year-old boys before the main film features started back in 1949. Also, at that time, Superman was by far the most popular character for DC so a secondary character like Bats got a lower budget. The Superman serials from about the same era have somewhat better production values.
