  • After all three Hart Trophy finalists finished with over 130 points, led by Nikita Kucherov at 144, is this the tightest Hart Trophy race in recently memory? Should 69-goal man Auston Matthews feel snubbed? TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron joins That's Hockey to discuss and share who he thinks will win the Hart.

Kuch was master of empty net goals. Go Nate dawg

MacKinnon will win because Kucherov and McDavid have already won one. It should be Kuch tho.

I think you're right. Plus if there's very little separating the two of them and the seasons they had, I think they'll be inclined to give it to a Canadian player over a Russian player.

Mcdavid is the only one that makes any sense. By far the biggest impact on his team. Nathan Mackinnon plays on by far the best team so it really should be between Kuch and Mcdavid. Mcdavid Carried the oilers to far more wins he deserves it.. Mcdavid will always deserve it. Players that would be 3rd-4th liners with 30-40 points become elite first and second line talent when playing with mcdavid.

Has to be Kuch's this year, dragged Tampa to the playoffs.

Kuch may have dragged but McDavid willed his team to where they finished

Mcdavids 16 game win streak after recovering from injury says otherwise. Put them back in contention and only a few points behind Colorado despite Colorado being a playoff team even without Mackinnon. Id bet most of what I own that mcdavid would have dropped 175 points if healthy the entire year this year. I need to find a pace that I can bet on it actually next year probably get 100-1 odds or better

Matthews should be nowhere near the Hart conversation even with 75 goals. He is a 1 dimensional player and nobody is scared of him like they are Kuch and Mack.

    • @StuMarston

How many goals would put him in the Hart conversation?

@@StuMarston Its not a goals issue. back when Selanne and Bure scored over 70 each, they werent even nominated. Goals does not equal automatic MVP contention

@@tobinkern5389 It's usually a pretty strong factor when considering Hart trophy voting. Ovi won the Hart with the most goals in the league but didn't have the most points. Matthews is likely going to finish fourth in voting this year so he's in the conversation.
As far as Matthews is one dimensional, I don't understand that. He's better defensively than Mackinnon, Kucherov and McDavid. He's done better than all of them in Selke voting during their careers.

@@StuMarston You are kinda proving my point bud. The hart takes into account ALL METRICS. Not just the ones that point at Matthews. Yes he had the most goals... we have a separate trophy for that. He was almost 40 points back in points. Last year McDavid swept all those metrics... MVP. Matthews in 2021 lead in goals but again was 40 points back. Matthews won in 22 with fewer goals than this year, only 17 points back of the leader, but in my opinion... He shouldn't have even won it that year either. Multiple players were better all round
