Great voice over and as always love your videos. As a fellow mother of snails and baby snail mom, I don't think it ever gets old watching them hatch. We had 9 clutches hatch over several days. I let the clutches stay in the tank where Miss Pancake and Waffle lay them. I keep the water line down several inches. They love laying them behind the Tidal 75. They are very busy creating their magic nightly as Mr. Muffin and Mr. Chowder can't leave them alone. 😁 I have a small Army now.❤🐌

PS. Last week we also discovered out 2 rabbit snails were a mating pair...we now have a beautiful rabbit snail baby in our big tank as well!!

I've been wondering how long it should take an entire clutch to hatch, and it looks like if left on its own it is just a few hours? That I am only getting a new baby snail once every day or two suggests something is wrong then? That said, I am not incubating them, I left them where they were laid and letting them proceed naturally. Except one of the clutches did fall off into the water, but I believe I may have accidentally bumped it off, so on the expectation that it was just in the water for a few seconds, I scooped it out and made an incubator for that one. A few of the egg cells look like they already opened up, so presumably those are among the already hatched babies, but I put it in the incubator yesterday and no new snails from it yet, so while some of the snails may have been ready to go, others apparently weren't? Or should I go ahead and crumble the egg sack up in hopes the others are also ready enough to go? Hmm...

Hello, thanks for the great vid once again. I am having trouble with 4 mystery snails i have. I just got them and drip acclimated them. First 2 days they were fine. Moving and eating. But on the third day, they start to not move at all, some inside their shell, some partially out of their shell and some have a wavy foot. My water parameters are good. 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites and 10 nirates 0 copper. Ph 7.2 and temp 26 degrees C. I have only cardinal tetras and they dont bother them. I have no idea what is going on. Could you please advise? Any reply is very much appreciated.

Great video! Is there a way to encourage a snail to lay eggs? I've had one clutch in just over one year, about four months after starting my tank. It felt random, is there something I can do to encourage my snails?

Hi Lav! I'm up to my ears (elbows?) in mystery snails! I have hatched out too many clutches. What do I do with them all? I have them in a high 20. Probably about 100-150. These are mostly pretty young but there are some that are 1 to 1 1/2 inches. There are another hundred (at least) in my breeder box. The older and larger ones are divided over a few other fish tanks and that is where I find all of the clutches. I am concerrned about overfeeding or under feeding and overcrowding. This tank must be cleaned several times a week. But everyone seems happy. I have some endlers i there as well. A local store will take a few (15-20), but i'll still have too many. Should I try to sell them? Many of them have lines on their shells. Is that normal? They are gold, striped magenta or brown, and jade. Thanks. I love watching your videos!

Lav, I removed my hob filter for the first time in forever and found a clutch behind the outflow/waterfall. I have NO idea how long it has been there . How can I tell if they are viable?

I just had my very first clutch hatch! I'm beyond excited! I do know that mortality rate is naturally high. How do you know which baby snails have passed away? They are so stinkin tiny (and oh so adorable) I'm not sure I'll be able to tell which ones I need to pull out. I'd hate to accidentally pull out anyone who's still alive, or accidentally leave some dead ones behind and ruin the water quality with ammonia build up.

Congrats!!🥳! after the first week, just keep the breeder box clean, every 3 or 4 days, and the ones that have passed will be taken care of that way. Congrats again! (But, IF they have passed, they can appear white, or on their side sort of half open, the Opurculum falls off super fast and sometimes they float.) 💜🐌🤗 best of luck!

I have 8 clutches so far. I was successful in incubating one clutch a few months ago, had 2 or 3 clutches that were "duds" and failed after i tried to incubate them. I gave up the incubation process and decided to let the 8 clutches hatch naturally. My clutches don't seem to get as big as yours. What are your suggestions with letting them hatch naturally? Should i try incubation again? I believe i've heard the survival rate is better if we incubate rather than natural, however, my 10g tank has 5 nano white clouds, 1 bumble bee goby, 2 white tetras and about 6 snails. it's fully planted and the water changes are done weekly. Whatcha think? I'd love to send you some pictures if at all possible?

How often can a snail lay a clutch. I’ve had mystery snails for years and none have ever had a clutch. This morning I saw a huge clutch and didn’t know what they were (I keep other animals) and it fell into the water. I put it in a container with a small damp paper towel but don’t have much hope. Wanted to know when it may happen again and if I could be more prepared.

I got my first 2 huge clutches of eggs! But they aren't mystery snails... I think they are Pomacea maculata. They were wildcaught..
Also are Pomacea bridgesii and Pomacea diffusa the same thing? Always wondered that...
edit: omg so many of them hatched now they are so tiny
edit2: they grow now and they are bigger.

Just hatched my first bundle of mystery snails into an empty 5G tank. Day T-1 and the water got super foggy already! I just got an air pump and a filter from the store today, what can I do to clear up the water? I don't want to water change because they're all at the top

Will they hatch just inside the tank it has a lid water level 3 inches around rim? Would it be better to do this for a hatchery would a 10 gallon tank work or would they be fine in the moms tank?
No fish just snails live plants crushed coral water perimeters are nitrates 0 nitrite 0
    Hardness 8.0
    Buffer is 80
    Ph 6.8
    Ammonia 0
According to the reading i did just now.

    • @LavsSnails
      @LavsSnails  3 года назад +2

The success of leaving them where they lay can vary tank to tank. The conditions must be so that it is not too wet so they slip and fall into the water OR not too dry so as the clutch dries out. It does work and many have success with leaving them its really up to you and the tank they were laid in.

@@LavsSnails if i would have had another tank i would have put them in there because it destroyed my water in a well established tank so im with you Lavynia that a breeder box is best.

@@LavsSnails they seem to be getting darker I did move them to a breed box just a half inch over the water line so there closer to the water. Without the need 4 a floating box with paper towels.
Went ahead and got a fluval large hang on breeding box to hatch them into in 3 days ill float them on Styrofoam if I dont catch them hatching sooner. If amazon makes it to me before then 😬 so excited. I breed shrimp guppies and goldfish hoping this will work as well. Fingers crossed.
