  • It’s hard to say goodbye to someone you love but nothing can prepare you to say goodbye to your city. We were born here, had our hearts broken then mended and we grew up into business men. Chicago is something you have to let into your soul to understand. Although our careers lead us out west to Los Angeles, our hearts will forever remain in the Windy City.

There are no words to explain what I am feeling...Born in the City, raised in the suburbs, left in '96 and now living in Europe. This makes me miss home so much, miss my father, my brother...these scenes, and the heartfelt music brings them back to me again, if only for a few minutes...I never truly grieved the losses of my family, but the way you captured the architectural/cultural beauty of Chicago brings it all home again to me. So bittersweet. So fleeting. So necessary. This just did that for me. Would love to have a copy of this if possible. Thanking you....

I came to Chicago in 1958....and haven't left. Yet. This is a beautiful tribute to an amazing City...it's heartbreaking that not only it, but the entire State of Illinois, is undergoing the political and civil strife now. Ever hopeful that the spiirit and intelligence of its people will overcome.

Chicago is uniquely American and should remain that way. NYC is two 1/2 times larger and damn crowded and dances to her own plate but you, Chicagoans, I admire you like Hell. Thank you for this wonderful remembrance. I share your love of Chicago and I miss it. I was not born there, but like you my heart was broken there and mended there. I reached a level of professionalism there which I have not duplicated elsewhere. I bought and lived in a beautiful downtown condo which I have not duplicated elsewhere. I'm originally from Cleveland, but my father left to go to Chicago and some years later, I also left for Chicago. During the years there, this City did enter my soul. Indeed, Chicago often overwhelmed me, and though I tried, I'm not sure I ever understood it. I left Chicago 2 years ago to be near my only grandchild We live in a very small northern California city without beautiful skyscrapers. Although I often think of Chicago, the thoughts don't sting because of the laughter and hugs and shinning eyes of a six year old. Thank you for this film - it means more than I can say. I wish you many years of success and happiness with your careers in Los Angeles.

@@galenvejkengdjor7718 chicago's population is technically slightly declining because of so many people moving out of the poorer west and south sides, but the center and north sides are both growing fast and much of the people who are moving are switching to the suburbs which are growing very quickly too. As for the state as a whole, most of it is losing population because the vast majority of the area is rural agricultural land and people are leaving to urban centers, its happeneing to rural areas around the country because the world gets more urbanized every year.

My hubby and I moved to a VERY small town 20 years ago for work. I had never lived anywhere but Chicago - never had a reason to. Being the city girl that I am, I struggled from time to time with adapting to a place so limited in variety; people, cultures, entertainment, food, shopping... you get the point. I even had trouble sleeping in my new town because it was TOO quiet. Thank God for the birth of RUclips! I found vids with city sound effects to sleep to, music, music and more music and later... THIS VIDEO!!!!!!! I shared it with EVERYONE. This vid created (and still does) an indescribable stirring in my spirit. It beautifully captures the essence and energy of the city and the musical score adds such a majestic quality. I am proud to say that I'm baaaack! Hubby retired and we moved back a few months ago. There truly is no place like home. Thanks Underscore for filling a void when I was REALLLLLLY homesick!

I went to NYC once and only got to Manhattan and Brooklyn. So many tourists, and you can't buy beer and hard liquor at same place so everywhere they would have like a beer place and then across the st. an alcohol store? And they had no alleys compared to us??. Trash was just thrown in the front of places. Still times square is the only place in the world you can experience something like that. And I love Belmont Park but not as much as Arlington with how new it is. lol and saw a girl fight walking to the beach? never seen a fight in Chicago like that.
NYC is just so dam big. Chicago is like manhattan and Brooklyn put together. Never knew that each borough is like a county so Chicago's cook county is 2nd largest after LA. Even though NYC has double the metro population.

Unlike many of the posters here, I never left Chicago rather I came here as a kid in 1980's, found home, and will never leave. Adore this place. Also, this city's skyline is insane. This is only a five year old video and I am picking out so many spots where there now exist soaring, beautiful towers. It keeps getting better.

We left 30 years ago for a better opportunity in Florida but there is always a piece of your heart left in Chicago, so you have to visit to get it back. Florida will never compare to Chicago! Chicago is a cultural mecca.

Grew up next to Midway and left for the Army in '63. Never moved back but still call it home! Been to DC/N.Y./LA but none come close! Loved taking the 59th street bus to the beach as a kid. Also shopping with mom at Carson Piere Scott, Weibolts, Goldblats etc. (pardon the spelling).

There’s so much more that’s not depicted on that video and I miss so terribly from my hometown. Too many to name, but just a few: the historical architecture, the museums, Greek town, the seasons of the year, and the food.

@underscorefilms, this film was breathtaking & captured aspects of our amazing city that make it unique and memorable. I got teary eyed seeing it. I loved all of the scenes but the ones that moved me to my core were the beach w/the tranquil Lake waves, open fire hydrant, L scenes, hot dog stand and John Hancock building. Those things represent so much of my life there. I moved to Orange Co., CA 21 yrs ago but my hometown is still Chicago and I will always be a bit out of place & uncomfortable in So.Cal. Gosh, I miss our big city yet still Midwest ways. I can't thank you enough for this film. Will share w/my fam. Blessings for your future projects.
