OZ, AWESOME approach I really like the test light method and waggle waggle the wires because u can see the light goes off great information as always last so programing the PCM done through ur scanner or u had to go through the pass over J2534 as always thanks for sharing cheeeers from ONT CANADA.
@@INeedChocolateMilk.26 You don't need one of those as he literally shows you in the video of finding that short with a test light as well, in fact the whole video pretty much was on it.
This is a very cool down to earth mechanic. Very knowledgeable. Savvy with his scanning tools and displays concern and trustworthyness toward his customers. Sadly we don't have enough honest mechanics like him
I’m,obviously, learning a lot from these videos and for that I thank you. I’m also enjoy your enthusiasm every time you spot and fix the problem at hand.
I bet the previous shop didn't even make a diagnosis. All they did was parts waterfall. I like your video - thats is how everybody's should diagnose a vehicle - not need to spend money on unnecessary parts.
This has been a great video and a great help to understanding the electrics on a dodge nitro thank you for your help. See you next time. Have a good day.🤝🇬🇧
Great job! I wish I could get more easy ones like that one. All I seem to get is intermittent issues or insanely difficult driveability issues on worn out and neglected vehicles.
I really wanted to make a video to show the programming procedure. But it got so dark. Luckily Eric from advance level auto is going to come out with a video that has 3 programs in one. Really cool video. Thanks for watching
Nice work man! it seems like the Chrysler products tend to have more of these weird electrical issues than other vehicles. (in my experience anyway 😂). I had a 2010 ram that had an issue with just one of the parking lights staying lit 24/7. After chasing wires and unplugging things...It turned out to be a shorted TIPM. great video once again!
My brother was skimming through my Ford repair manual and one of the steps was to "perform a wiggle test".. He laughed so hard when he read that and I couldn't help but laugh at him.. so we cracked up for a good 3 minutes about "wiggle test" being one of the steps actually written the Fords book..
I’m not too sure. The dodge pcm’s are not known to be the best computers. I wasn’t able to open it as I needed to return it for the core price. But my guess is that the ground and powers are right next to each other and they might have shorted internally
I notice that your Autel doesn't seem to open with a topology diagram, which is the same way my Autel MS906BT behaves. I wish I had access to a topology diagram, and I wonder if that is a failure of my scan tool or whether it also requires new vehicles. I've been too cheap to pay the huge price for annual updating, and I wonder if I were to begin paying for updates I would get topology. It's annoying to have to know which modules to look for to appreciate something is missing.
I was using the IM608, unfortunately that one doesn’t offer the topology feature. Now, the 909 does offer that feature. Have you looked into the topdon ?
Does that tenth digit always reflect the year it was made, or does it show the actual model year? I used to go to the environmental sticker under the hood, but those stickers aren't always there.
Hey Bro great work man I love this channel!!! Where can a DIYER like myself get wiring diagrams like that for free??? Again great job and keep knocking out this great content!💯💯💯💪🏾
Mr Oz...my wife has a 08 nitro and when she turns it on it sounds like it gets stuck in starting, we have to turn it off then wait a few minutes then it willdi it again, then finally click to run. Any advice? We replaced the starter, alternator.
If it wasn't shorted-- could you still have used that 2012 PCM in this 2010 Nitro? Maybe the wiring is slightly different in a 2012 vs 2010 and that's why it was shorting? You could have checked 2012 wiring diagrams just to confirm that it's the same.. Do you know if they are compatible or not? I don't see why they would be different.. but I'm not sure
Is there anyway a shorted component caused the ecu to short out? Hear me out here... say the car has an evap solenoid that is power side switched by the pcm, and the solenoid shorts to ground. The current going through the solenoid damages the ecu driver, creating a short in the ecu and blows the 10a fuse. You diagnose it properly and change the ecu, and it works and the engine starts --until the new ecu commands the solenoid to actuate as the customer drives away. Now a second ecu got shorted out. Am I just being overly paranoid here, or would it have been worth it to check just about every wire on the pcm?
I'm having a major problem with my 2010 Nitro.. My accel pedal (APP 2) signal drops out every few seconds.. I traced it down and pulled the plug off of the computer and applied power to my APP 2 pin DIRECTLY at the computer -- and it shows high/ 5v on the scan tool... Exactly like it would if I was holding the pedal to the floor.. (so I'm just simulating full throttle by applying power to the signal wire at the pcm -- through an LED test light)---- and even then, the signal still drops out every few seconds. So I know for a FACT that the problem is happening inside the computer. .. I talked to an ECU repair guy for these and he said that it can't be fixed, because it's likely the main processor.......... So I'm looing for another PCM.. DO you know if other years are compatible? Because I can find some 2007 and 2008 Nitro PCM's for under hundred dollars.. and I have an x431 Pro -- so I can write the VIN myself if needed. I just need to know: If I buy a 2007 or 2008 PCM-- will it work in my 2010 Nitro? Or do I need to get an actual 2010 computer? (which are all $350 or more for some reason.. I can't find one cheap like these other years). Any help would be appreciated- thanks. I subbed btw.. I like watching Ivan and Eric O and advanced level and scanner danner, automotive diagnostics and programming, etc. etc.. Mario, diagnose dan, Schrodengers box, etc.. I try to watch them all. :)
I live here in Houston. my neighbor just spent $900 at a shop he brought in with misfire and they told him the ecm was shorted out by a bare wire . They fixed the wire but couldn’t get it running even with used ecm . He towed it home and now he asked me to help so wish I had your number. I am old school mechanic 😱 I am fixing for free hopefully I can figure it out
Did you at least take a peek to see if that pin was bent over? I can’t imagine you could get the connector snapped in if it was, but I suppose some gorilla forcing it on isn’t out of the realm of possibilities...
@@OzMechanics you set the circuit breaker to whatever you want and then put the power to latch. If there is a short, in makes an annoying noise that notifies you and constantly breaks the circuit breaker until said short is found

Damn, that was GOOD.

Yea I was hoping to get the vehicle done before it got too late
Fine job dude.having said that someone needs to make a tester for the pcm so you just unhook the leads and plug the test lead in
Nice. But whats caused the ecu to have a short inside? Wont it happen to the new one now?
I bought a nitro for a steal of just 2k with the similar issue. Turned out it was just a bad key lol. So happy
Wonder if they drained the capacitors when installing or bent connections 🤔 great job 👊🏻
outstanding work
Thanks 🙏

good job OZ

How can I get the wiring diagrams that you have? But for a 2014 Charger.

The heat is no joke. But I have a lot of videos coming out soon
Hi, did you do part 2 on THIS? Change out the fuel pump? Did that fix the now low fuel delivery?
One question for you. Why did the computer failed (short) in the first place ? Thanks for the info.
"Follow the data" like Berne Thompson says.
Good one Oz! I'm curious as to what made the old PCM short out. Any ideas?

Which model of Autel scanner is that?
Does that tenth digit always reflect the year it was made, or does it show the actual model year? I used to go to the environmental sticker under the hood, but those stickers aren't always there.
Yes, the tenth digit is the model yrs. The screen shot is a sheet sheet you can use
Looking at a 2010 original owner Nitro with a 4.0 (47,000 miles) ... are these engine/transmissions problematic and/or what issues do they have?
Nothing like the old 1 -2
We here try to repair the ecu mainboard here in my country (Turkey) first if no fix then find a second hand one from graveyards.
Dodge computers tend to mess up a lot and the second ones are sometimes hard to get. I looked but the dealership was the one that had it
