Bless your hearts! Sleep deprivation makes everything a thousand times harder. It's such a helpless feeling, too ❤️ It took my second baby 6 months to stop screaming. And I had to scrape budget together to get a mother's helper for a few months. He was scared of the purple baby, but he cleaned my house like a pro and entertained my toddler, so *all* I had to do was take care of baby.
I heard Derek say, "We just had to take our foot off the gas." Yes! Eat whatever, ask for help, use paper plates. Do get someone else to take baby for a walk, so you can get a quick shower (and a mental break). Being clean feels good and signals a fresh start :-)

Your strength and love is so inspiring and I know that God is blessing and watching over you! You are incredible examples of overcoming the trials of parenthood and I admire all that you’ve done despite your many burdens.

My baby was exactly the same. We too tried everything. Some things helped a little bit... probiotic drops, bouncing on yoga ball, carrying him all the time in ergobaby, and meds (baby Zantac), but nothing really cured the problem. I think in the end, it was just how he was, and it will pass. Hang in there it is SO hard, but keep reminding yourself that it’s temporary!

What to expect is not what you get. We are all unique with different needs. He's a beautiful baby and will bring so much joy. Establishing a routine and feeding times is so hard in the 1st few weeks. Hard work and time wins everytime.

I feel like I could have written this too but 32 years ago. I did have to have my gallbladder removed when my 2nd daughter was 5 days old. It was horrible but I found the Le Leche League and those woman were fantastic. They found safe breast milk for my baby until the nuclear medicine got out of my breast milk. And my husband is a lot like Derek, he was home with an 23 month old and a new born and she wouldn't drink any formula! But he was a Rockstar and we all survived! I just found this page and I've binged almost every video of your lives together and you two are adorable! Thanks for the hours of entertainment! Much 💘

My son had colic day and night.... What helped him (I was determined to find out how to solve this issue) I put him in a carrier and tilted it in his bassinet by our bed.... I guess it made the gas go down faster. I breast fed my kids too.
I occasionally babysit the neighbors newborn and they bottle fed, so I fill a coffee cup half full of hot water(from my drip coffee machine...the new one that looks like a shake machine, and I used to bold button) then put the bottle in the cup to warm it. The warm pushes out the gas you can hear it. I know of one case the boy was put on goats milk and to this day he is extremely healthy.

So many things I want to say!
I breastfed for 10 excruciating days. I would have rather gone through labor again. When I talked to my doctor he was almost begging me to just keep going for 4 more days and it would get better. I just couldn’t do it! My baby and I didn’t have any type of ailments, no mastitis, no thrush, she latched really well. I admire Sarah so much for all that she did and tried so hard. I really felt like I failed. It was so difficult for me that when I had my 2nd daughter I didn’t even try to breastfeed. THAT was a bad decision because after your first child you really do know how to take things in stride and she was a much more chill baby, in general.
NOW… Formula. I cannot believe that even baby formula has more strict guidelines than the US does. Our FDA is GRRR!!! I can’t. It makes me so ANGRY at what they allow us to consume that isn’t even necessary. Red food dye? WHO cares what color something is??? I believe the FDA and food production businesses are scratching each other’s back’s. SO angry! You guys are troopers! I can’t imagine seeing my baby in pain like that. I’m not the only one but I cried when the hospital had to get her blood sample from her toe. Oops, another novel… Sorry 💕

Most newborn babies come out with their vertibrae and neck out of place. Think about how they get out! We always took our babies in for a newborn treatment at the chiropractor. They immediately relax, change and go to sleep. It is great to see. Check those bones guys!

I can so relate - believe it or not I had twins and my twin son Jack would scream “Holy Bloody Murder” (make you think your ear drums were bleeding) for 45 minutes, then go to sleep - if you tried to smooth him he would scream for hours!! You will survive 😊, he’s 25 now and doing terrific. On the flip side his twin brother would finish a bottle without waking up 😂😂😂.

All of Jack’s problems remind me of my Grandson’s story. We ended up searching for and using a soy formula, then we found out what was causing all of his problems. He was so tongue tied and lip tied (under his upper lip) he had problems sucking which made him have diarrhea and digestive problems, so when he got his lip tie, and tongue tie -lasered by a children’s dentist that does tongue ties and upper lip ties (All the time) to newborns , he-(my Grandson) was a different baby. The Child’s Dentist said : Parents need to always get right into him right away to have their newborns mouth looked at for ties. The Dentist specializes in tongue ties in babies mouths and there is no blood. It saves them A lot of misery and Mom and Dad too.🥰

When they get around 3 or 4 months or a little sooner you can give them a cereal bottle. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty. It's just cereal in with the formula and it gives them more sustenance so they sleep. 45 years ago we had to make our own but they have like feeder bottles now. It will make him a happier baby. I've seen women put fruit and everything in them but that's a bit much. I wanted to breast feed but I couldn't either. Good luck. You'll have a nice, happy, chunky baby. You're such a nice couple.

I’ve had 4 pregnancies with 3 having epidural and 4th being a natural birth with no medicine. My 4th one was the only time I could breast feed. Also because I had a birth control after each pregnancy except the last. It was strange to know what can change the ability to breast feed. A lot of variable!

I've advised the girls that in those 1st few days of adjustment you're going to think..."God what have we done to ourselves? And don't feel guilty bc we all go through it, it's just part of the blessing 🤔 Also, we as mother's have 9 months of intimate connection with your baby...for your partner it's a crash course into the wall of reality 😱 and some Dad's are in panic mode, so remember to be patient while Dad settles into parenthood. Don't beat yourselves up for these feelings. And don't feel disappointment in yourself if you feel t-4 need to call me for help ok?" I love being needed bc that is what Mom's do😘 and you'll be there one day yourself...

Sarah, I totally understand how hard it is to accept that you can't breast feed. I had a breast reduction back in 2015, and had my daughter this year. I went through the exact same thing with the mastitis and all of it. I think you made the right decision for your mental health, I had to do the same. At the end of the day, its the love we give to our babies, not how they are fed. And fed is best!

It really annoys me the pressure that's put on mother's to breast feed. It's extremely difficult, it's painful, you don't know jow much their getting, mastitis is a real thing. A fed baby is a happy baby whether that be breast or bottle and a happy mummy means a happy baby and no guilt should be felt if bottle feeding is what your baby decides is best.

I know this was awhile back, i am just seeing it. I had to move to Spain, my husband was in the service. Anyway we couldn't live on base, so we had a apartment off the base, anyway i was 21 and got pregnant. I knew absolutely nothing about babies, i didn't know anyone, therefore had no family or friends. I was breastfeeding and he screamed and screamed all night, for a couple of week's. We went for his check up and he had lost weight. They took him in the back and would not let me come back with him. I had no idea what was going on, i finally went and told them i wanted my baby right now. They had told me he had lost i think about a pound, and that i had to bring him back in 1 week and if he had not gained any weight they would take him, i was terrified and crying all the way back home. We didn't have a car so i had to walk every where. Anyway on the way home, and being so upset all the sudden i feel warmth and my shirt was soaked. My milk had not come in and all he was getting was cloisterem. ( i know i spelled that wrong ). I hope you know what i mean. I took him back the next week and he had gained 3lbs. Point being know one ask what i was feeding him, know one ask me anything, they just decided that i was a bad mom. So anyone who isn't sure about newborn's like i was PLEASE ASK SOMEONE, it makes a great big difference. I cried, i had no idea i was starving my baby, it broke my heart. He is healthy, smart, handsome and married a beautiful wonderful lady and have a 1 year old, who i love so much. Love to all!!!!!

I’m listening to your story and it’s almost identical to my story. I’m 54 now and my kids are grown, but you never forget. I am one of 4 daughters and my mom and all of my sisters and I had a problem producing milk with our first babies. My doctor said it’s genetic. After the first one we’re milk machines, lol. I lived through that no sleep and having to go to just formula. It’s so hard because it’s drilled into us that we HAVE to breastfeed.
My son had reflux and colic too. The one thing that really helped was when my pediatrician said he needed to sleep on his tummy. I started out doing it on the couch and he laid next to me. That made me feel like he could handle it. Then we had to incline the head of his crib and put him in there to sleep on his tummy. He slept through the night! It was terrifying and an amazing relief at the same time. Sometimes things are scary but you have to try to help the baby any way you can. Mylicon drops help a lot if he’s gassy. Just as fast as things come on they go away so new crazy things can happen. It’s all good and none of it is because you did anything wrong. You’re great parents and Jack is a very lucky little boy. 😘💜

My son was in the NICU for 2 weeks and after he finally came home and we had to follow up with a lung doctor we found out he had acid reflux. He had gone through 5 formulas before we found the right one and he has to me medicated. So i understand the crying and the screaming. On top of that he was constantly throwing up and projectile vomiting. It's so rough and when you finally get through it and your baby feels better its the most amazing feeling. The last thing you want is for your child to be miserable. I never went through any of this with my 2 year old daughter so i didn't understand. But when you figure it all out and have a happy baby it's the best feeling in the world.

Hello, I have given natural birth to 5 out of my 7 children, 2 were C-section. I breastfeed 6 out of the 7. My first one I didn't because had no idea what I was doing. My second one, my oldest sister told me to pinch and twist my nipples as hard as I could tolerate my whole pregnancy to toughen them up so they would be prepared for breastfeeding. After my second child was born and I breastfeed, my stomach hurts as well, it was my uterus contracting. Breastfeeding helps the uterus contract to help it get back to it's normal size. It hurts like crazy though.

Got a solution for breast mastitis. Cabbage leaves microwaved for 15 seconds then cover the entire breast, repeating for an hour. I know it sounds a little crazy, but sometimes the simplest solutions are the ones that work best and this really does work.

My heart is so broken to think about what Poor sweet Jack was going through with the American formula!!!! The ONLY REASON he "had so much energy" while he was not eating (before he began eating the European formula), was because he was starving! Also, I have not researched this yet but I wonder if there are enzymes for babies, to help them with their digestion? Getting ready to Google that now!

I'm going to leave the comment that I just wrote right before this one, I had asked you guys if there was any such thing as a digestive enzyme for babies, then I hit play on your video and the next thing you said was that you had gotten him on probiotics! Crazy that I mentioned that right before you said it!

    Okay-
I have a 3 month old son named Jack that is nearly identical to your son. I also stopped producing early on and had to switch to formula. My Jack also had a terrible time with Similac. He also has silent reflux and gags constantly when eating. Especially when using syringes. He also tenses up his whole body and turns purple screaming. I just had to say all this because the similarities are absolutely blowing my mind. My Jack is seriously your Jacks doppelgänger 😭❤️

As a parent of two who both had reflux (one of whom we had to syringe feed too), I relate so hard to the highs and lows you describe. It’s by far harder than anyone tells you and yet 100% worth it! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I just watched this - nov 2022. I love that both of you are together in the tolerable mess of finding what is right for baby. Its clear you've went the distance to find the golden chalice filled with magical European formula. I am happy for both of you - with jack- now you can sleep; rest, reset circadian. Rhythm, start each day ready to have fun and think clearly. Excellent parents. Thanks for sharing

My youngest screamed 24/7 I don’t know how he wasn’t exhausted. He was totally breastfed refused every single formula and nipple. It got 2 the point after 3 weeks I was hallucinating bc of no sleep. Went to ped he said he had severe acid reflux with pyloric stenosis and I had to “lay” him down in his car seat so he would be sitting up sleeping. Almost agreed to surgery then around 8-9 months sitting up right by himself it got better. Thank god I took him to the ER at least 1x a week. Don’t forget if u breastfeed what u eat he eats & he may b allergic but ur not

My parents swapped me onto a soy based formula for the first 6 months and that helped immediately! For all my siblings they did first 6 months on a soy formula, and then moved back into a cows milk one. Your baby is so lucky to have you both!
