Hello everyone (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ here are my favourite books of all time (as per Oct 2020)! Look, if I was a nonchaotic person who had my life together, maybe this would be a clean 10 books. Or 15 books. Instead, I bring you a whopping 23 (which does not include the two books I ended up cutting when I was editing--bc the video was going to be way too long--and the honourable mentions i chucked in like 'Killing Commendatore' and 'Ocean At the End of the Lane')
I find it really interesting how many of these books are different to the ones included in my last favourite books video! There's heaps of fantasy, sci-fi, speculative, contemporary and non-fiction books here--so hopefully you find something to add to your TBR. I hope you enjoy the video and have a lovely day!

You provide the best plot descriptions of books out of all the booktubers I've watched. Most booktubers are so vague and will just gush about how much they love/hate a book, but you actually go into a good amount of depth, enough to make me want to pick up a book. Thank you!

    Airman, by Eoin Colfer
    Jane, Unlimited by Kristin Cashore
    Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
Murder on the Orient Express by the Queen of Mysteries, Agatha Christie!
All of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books
Hatchet and The Voyage of the Frog by Gary Paulsen
A Little Princess, The Secret Garden, and Little Lord Fauntleroy by Frances Hodgson Burnett
    The Floating Islands by ???

2 - "The Cider House Rules" by John Irving
3 - "The Brothers K" by David James Duncan
    4 - "Catch-22" by Joseph Heller
5 - a) The Sarantine Mosaic, and b) The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay
6 - "Les Miserables" by Victor Hugo
7 - "Days Without End" by Sebastian Barry
8 - "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens
9 - "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy
10 - "Down to This: Squalor and Splendour in a Big-City Shantytown" by Shaughnessy Bishop-Stall

Fun fact: I can trace my entire experience in grad school back to the Cambridge Companion to Fantasy Literature. In 2012 I didn’t know there was any significant scholarship on fantasy as a genre, but a friend gave me the book for my birthday. At the same time I had moved to southeastern Idaho to start a teaching job. Flipping through the CCtFL, I found out that Brian Attebery teaches at Idaho State University, just an hour away from where I had just moved to. We started corresponding and it eventually led me to ISU for grad school (I’m currently working on my dissertation), I’ve published a few articles on fantasy abs sci-fi, I’ve become a regular attendee of the International Conference on the Fantastic in the Arts, and I even got to serve as the Editorial Assistant for the Journal of the Fantastic in the Arts for a few years. And it all started with that copy of the Cambridge Companion, which I still regularly mine for ideas and resources for my scholarship. Very cool to see someone on BookTube has read it!

Surprised you dropped To the Lighthouse and Mrs. Dalloway for this video compared to the last one. I personally think both (particularly To the Lighthouse) are two of the greatest novels ever written.

I've only read one of these books - Anne of Green Gables, which I love. You have a lovely

I always love hearing you talk about books. It just makes me want to read even more than I already do (and that is quite a lot) :) I just wanted to let you know that most Mormons (or members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints which is the name that we prefer) are not extreme like Tara Westover's family was. I am a member of that church and we actually highly favor education and believe that everyone should educate themselves as much as possible. Westover's father took a lot of things too far and sadly that meant she was not educated. Obviously many people have many different experiences with religion, but from my perspective, our church is an organization that is just trying to bring Light into the world through different methods like coming unto Christ and finding good things out of the best books.

I'm so glad you mentioned Murakami, because I havent' come accross a lot of booktubers that speak of him so lovingly. I would totally recommend the trilogy 1Q84 if you have the time. I have issues with his representations of women too, but I can't help loving his prose, which is why I moved to Japan to study his work actually :)

A lot of your favourites are mine too! :) The Graveyard Book, Ocean at the end of the Lane, Never Let me Go. Although I hated Norwegian Woof to be honest ^^; the sex stuff was too straight-man wish fulfilment and weird for me.

Great list! I am writing a research paper on architectural representation in ghibli films and came across an interview in which miyazaki talks about howl's moving castle saying that- "I made this movie to show it to a young girl of 60. What makes this story wonderful is not that the spell is broken and sophie gets young again, but the fact that she forgets her age."

Hello Christie-Anne! I love the calm way you are presenting the books. I have also enjoyed your photos on Instagram. I happen to be an Author. I have recently published 'Rosie Protects the Coded Disc of Phaistos', on Amazon. In case you would be interested in reading it and offer an honest review, I would so appreciate it. It's fantasy-adventure- Science Fiction for both children and adults. Thanks.

Well, the "monster" is technically the son Frankenstein, since he comes to life through Victor. I think it's totally appropriate to refer to him as Frankenstein.

Glad you liked Orlando but you didn’t mention it was based on Vita Sackville West a friend of Virginia with whom they had a relationship. Vita Sackville West was herself an excellent writer who wrote novels, poetry, history of her family and inheritance as well as gardening at Sissinghurst. A fascinating character I’m sure you would enjoy her writings if you haven’t already found her. She too experienced the limitations of being female in that she was not allowed to inherit her homestead Knole because she was a woman. Would recommend her novel “ALL PASSION SPENT” in particular.

Good books never become outdated. If they become outdated it’s because they weren’t good books.
