  • This Bank Holiday weekend Big Daddy Kane, one of the Godfathers of Hip Hop, brought his rapid rhymes, classic cuts and sharp dress sense to London's world famous Jazz Cafe.
Performing at the Camden live venue two nights on the trot, Hip Hop was definitely in the building. If you were oblivious to the fact that he's been doing his thing since the mid-80s after his Friday night performance you'd think he was a part of the new school movement. Donning a suit jacket, shirt and a bow tie, the man whose first two albums, Long Live The Kane and It's A Big Daddy Thing, are often regarded as iconic moments in rap, came up trumps performing to a sell-out audience who gave back the same amount energy given to them throughout his entire show.
They say that age ain't nothing but a number and this is certainly the case for Kane. At 45-years-old he's out-rapping and most definitely outperforming many of today's young cats. His Jazz Cafe performance saw him moving up and down, side to side and spitting his famous double time flow that inspired the likes of Jay Z, Twista and more to mimic it. Not only that, he was also seen jumping into the crowd and dapping as many people as he could all the while reeling off every lyric to fan favourite "Raw".

Great show, wish I had been there. What I don't get is why these legendary artists stop creating and perfoming to begin with. I can understand the greedy labels dropping them for something more commercial because that's their line of business, it's not about the music for them but the artists really need to understand that the original audience is still out there and never wanted them to stop in the first place.
