Anyone know the composer of Paris Express? I’ve tried to get the music but there are several pieces called ‘Paris Ecpress’ galop and none so far have matched this one.
@anglerfly In one of the earliest issues of the COAA magazine "Carousel Organ", there is a nice article about this organ written by its former owner, Herb Brabant of Kentucky, Mr. Brabant, I believe, bought it directly either from Mr. Heller, or from Bill Black and/or Jim Wells, who discovered and arranged the sale of the "Heller Hoard" with the cooperation of Mr. Heller.
@anglerfly this organ originally played on PTC carousel #15 (Which still exists, and is currently offered for sale to serious, caring American buyers only, by Brass Ring Entertainment), circa 1910. Although I am not sure of its history in-between, sometime in the 1950s or 1960s(?) it was purchased by Erwin Heller, a band organ repairman living in Ohio, and along with about a dozen organs, was stored in a shed. When this organ collection was discovered and sold, it was called the "Heller Hoard".
wellsgavioli Thanks for the information! I must try to get in touch with Mr. Brabandt, or somebody who knows/knew him to find out what happened to that roll frame and rolls, as they have historical significance over here in the USA. Thanks for presenting this beautiful organ, and long may it continue to give the public, and you, great musical pleasure!
@anglerfly Interestingly, at the time of its purchase from the hoard, the organ had a duplex paper roll system added by the US branch of the Bacigalupo or Bacigalupi company, I believe. (perhaps this was Peter and/or Louis, who altered the family name from the original "Bacigalupo" spelling to "Bacigalupi", when they moved to the US). According to Mr. Brabant in the article, the duplex roll frame was still loaded with "pink" paper rolls. Where is this duplex roll frame and rolls today???
This is one of the best recordings of a Gavioli I've heard in a long time. The organ is superb and has that 'authentic' Gavioli sound. Thank you so much for posting it. Are there any CDs available of the organ? Glenn
@anglerfly it is called american because the owners bought it in the States, where it spent it's active career this particular organ was dispatched overseas from Antwerp,Belgium on the day of filming this I was kindly invited by the owners to handle the organ had a great day
