I remember walking the streets of Paris to my college class during the metro strikes in Fall 2007, listening to this song/album on loop on my brand new color screen iPod.
My ex boyfriend put this on one of his mixtapes to me… we have over a hundred songs worth between the 10 mixtapes we sent back and forth… and now we will never see each other again… I kind of vowed to not listen to any of the songs ever again… but then this song just came on and here I am. I am so heartbroken.
That is exactly where I first heard this song. My ex boyfriend made me a bunch of mixtapes and I lost them all in the house fire, sadly, but I heard this song in a yoga class 6 years later, and I memorized as many of the lyrics as I could so I could look it up later. I wish I could find the rest of the music he left me, but I’m not reaching out to try to find out.
Like from mud the most beautiful flowers grow, so will the most joyful moments stem out of this pain. And just as after winter new sprouts appear, so will you blossom after this heartbreak. But to make us feel nothing, as to not feel anything, what a waste!" May the path that lies ahead be filled with consolation, healing and rejoicement. You deserve it!

this song makes me cry!! my heart is melting. When I close my eyes while listening to it, I am taken away to a loving utopia, something about that beat, trumpet and ukulele, my God, so beautiful!

I listened to this some years ago and never thought that much of it. The trumpet melodies seemed to never leave me. It took me some more years to source who actually did it and to find it again.

This song holds so many memories for me. It used to bring me to tears for years. Coming back to it for the first time in a long time and in a nostalgic mood, I'm glad that it makes me smile rather than cry. Some of the good times might be gone forever and the future may seem scary, but the power to keep growing, experiencing and becoming better is in all our hands. And that's what it's about I guess. This band has been accessory to many of my panic attacks and mental breakdowns. And now, mentally stable and happy with who i am it brings me joy to reminisce on the hard times this has helped me through. Beautiful music without a doubt.
Love this song. Was released during a very dark time. Friend of mine at the time played mandolin for Beirut. That’s how I became acquainted with the music. Almost too painful to listen to now.
I'm currently dealing with a broken heart with someone I gave the world to who completely no longer loves me. I worked hard and took care of everything so that she could finish school and pursue her dreams. I wanted to be by her side and help her in any way I could. I was fired from my job of 14 years and she had to take care of things while I dealt with depression and trying to get back on my feet. Apparently someone gave her attention and she decided she wants that person more than me and I will never truly understand why. I'm barely making much and now we're going to go our separate ways after 6 years. This song used to always make me tear up with how beautiful it is, but right now, it's only making me realize that I put forth all my time and energy into something that was never meant to be. This hurts.
After listening to this song on Shameless, I fell in love with it. I know now this song will become more popular and has added thousands of more fans I am sure.
I drown in a concoction of joy, familiarities, nostalgia I have driven from relations, every time I hit this piece. I came across this song so many years back, but on my way back from my first solo trip today, this majestic work wrapped up the conclusion, I'm leaving behind so much, and this tune just instills some hope of finding my way back to my memories, it's just one postcard away :)
Just love Beirut, been interwoven in my life since early twenties, 40 this year and still pretty much my favourite band. Brilliant, talented, always humble...captures time travel somehow without ever trying too hard..certainly not for our benefit. Great gift..thanks Zach and compadres..I’ll be listening til the day I die.
I saw Beirut on their first tour through Europe, downstairs in Academy 3 in Manchester. It was absolutely incredible. I was with a girl I had feelings for, but we never quite got together, and a friend who I cared a lot for, but have since lost touch with. In my mind the memory of seeing Beirut live plays out like this video, poignant distant memories. But I still feel it all deeply.
I can't get enough of this band. I need to see them live again. Sasquatch is a must. I missed them in pioneer square. Good thing a friend is in the band
My ex introduced me to Beirut and I will forever be great full, gave me the record and its beautiful, we are still friends, dont talk as much but keep in touch every now and again,
Amazing music. Love this band. They make me feel different emotions in just one song. I remember my past and all emotions mix together. Sometimes my sadness turns into peace and my peace gives me courage to see my future. Thank you guys.

I remember my teacher showed us this in class once around 3 years ago and I felt a huge surge of nostalgia. It was different from the music I listened to on the radio and it felt a bit strange but so, so beautiful. I love this song
Me da Alegría y Nostalgia a la vez. Ese aire a Familia a Hogar. Me hubiera gustado formar parte de ellos. Bravo Beirut. Carlos. Buenos Aires. Argentina.
The melody is so so good. I feel like I lived those times. I feel incredibly good after listening to this song, whether I am happy or sad. Thankfully, Beirut isn't that known because we have this music jewel for ourselves.
The first time I heard this song 10 years ago and loved the song just as a Song. 10 years later and I finally get the songs message and love it so so much more, I wish I was still with all the people who made happy memories with me! Especially you Mom, I love you and miss you so much ❤️
This album doesn't make me nostalgic for a time I didn't live through. It makes me nostalgic for a coda to Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" that I never got to hear. These sounds dredge up ghosts that I desperately miss.
I've listened to Postcard From Italy since 2016 and I swear this song is my favorite, I had a lot of new moments in life and this song was played in that moments until now. And at the same year, I made friends with this boy from Italy, but I guess we only talk once, I don't remember how, we didn't talk again, maybe we both were thinking that we are not interesting, but we still follow each other on instagram. And then at the beginning of August 2019 he sent me some messages saying that he was stalking through my Spotify account which i put on my bio. And then he saw the Beirut's Gulag Orkestar album cover on my playlist. He also loves this song too! This is how this all started. Long story short, he said that he wants to send me some gifts, we started become a couple, etc. He also plays guitar. So I guess he can relate to the ending of the lyrics. And this day, I received my gifts, the Beirut's Gulag Orkestar Vinyl as one of the gifts. I didn't expect that I'm gonna get such a beautiful gift. This is too good to be true. So, I'm looking at this video again to have a little nostalgic feeling to the first time I look at this video and was thinking "I'm gonna have a person who will also appreciate this song."
That's mindblowing how they manage to make us feel nostalgic about memories that aren't ours. I didn't know that was possible.
I think its because it feels so universal. We all remember summer days in the sun, times spent with family and friends, people we knew and loved. This video and song tap into something very human.
That was exactly what I was thinking. :)
It's the purpose of art, no? To feel something new yet familiar?

After listening to this song on Shameless, I fell in love with it. I know now this song will become more popular and has added thousands of more fans I am sure.
Beirut makes me so nostalgic
Me too
eu amo essa banda. Me inspira, me deixa emocionada ao lembrar do meu irmão, é o meu coração.
This is the most beautiful video ever. I always cry watching it.
I never knew this song would start so hopeful for me, then become so hurtful
Maybe some day it won't hurt anymore
Alguém aí que ama Beirut? Pra mim são incomparáveis... Amo demais
This is such a lyrically perfect song.
I can't get enough of this band. I need to see them live again. Sasquatch is a must. I missed them in pioneer square. Good thing a friend is in the band
One of the most prettiest songs in the world

I'm just in love with 2:01 onwards
Amazing music. Love this band. They make me feel different emotions in just one song. I remember my past and all emotions mix together. Sometimes my sadness turns into peace and my peace gives me courage to see my future. Thank you guys.
I've always been inspired by this warm feeling that comes floating from their songs...
I love this so much!
My eyes tear a little everytime I hear this song

I feel warmth inside my heart. World feels like a better place. Love you Beirut
Kocham, odkąd usłyszałam kilkanaście lat temu na TVP Kultura. Coś innego, pięknego, wrażliwego... Doceniam, szanuję, zostaje w moim sercu w specjalnym miejscu. ❤
The times we had, oh, when the wind would blow
With rain and snow were not all bad
We put our feet just where they had, had to go
Never to go
The shattered soul following close but nearly twice as slow
In my good times there were always golden rocks to throw
At those who admit defeat too late
Those were our times, those were our times
And I will love to see that day, that day is mine
When she will marry me outside with the willow trees
And play the songs we made, they made me so
And I would love to see that day, her day was mine
Whenever I think of what an ideal bard sound like THIS is the voice that comes to mind. True troubadour.
I remember my teacher showed us this in class once around 3 years ago and I felt a huge surge of nostalgia. It was different from the music I listened to on the radio and it felt a bit strange but so, so beautiful. I love this song
Coisa linda. Agradecido pela música e pela vibração. ❤️
...I'm in love with this video. Thank you.
Perfeição!
muita!!! ♡
Thankfully, Beirut isn't that known because we have this music jewel for ourselves.

this song makes my heart ache in the most exquisitely beautiful way.
i agree
The first time I heard this song 10 years ago and loved the song just as a Song. 10 years later and I finally get the songs message and love it so so much more, I wish I was still with all the people who made happy memories with me! Especially you Mom, I love you and miss you so much ❤️
hey my son introduced me to Beirut and now I love them so much that I'm even thinking of flying to Japan to catch them in concert
Beirut is an absolute good. Beirut is life.
god
AC 7H0M50N Praise be to Gott.
This album doesn't make me nostalgic for a time I didn't live through. It makes me nostalgic for a coda to Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" that I never got to hear. These sounds dredge up ghosts that I desperately miss.
The trumpets in this song are exquisite.
this song always brings summer to my heart and mind :)
Essa música sempre me relaxa, me transporta para uma outra atmosfera!
Essa banda♥️ o Brasil agradece sua existência 😊
miss the band so much. greet's from Poland!
Thank you Beirut for creating such amazing songs!! The music is incredible. And it's our medication in those difficult times!!
