Lesson 19 - Equational Present Tense Sentences

  • In this lesson we continue looking at Nominal sentences. We compare Noun-Adjective Phrases with Equational sentences.
    We start to form present tense sentences in Arabic using the linking verbs (is, am, are etc)
    We finish the lesson by looking at negating present tense Arabic equational sentences.
    In the lesson you get to practice your pronunciation, grammar and can follow the quizzes to test your learning. This lesson is the foundation for starting to create sentences.

    Assalamu alaikkum! I have a question about the phrase “ they are close to home” I don’t see the definite “ The” is used, so why is it “ Al-bait” instead “ bait” also the word has kasra below. Why doesn’t it have damma.
    “Min” doesn’t it mean “from” ? Do we use the preposition’min’ for both “ from & to”? Please clarify this . Shukran.

    Hi teacher, when do I need to use جامعة and جامعي.

      Hi Momekajar, when ever a suffix is added to the end of a noun, then it means you are trying to indicate possession, my name, my book etc. if you don’t want to say something belongs to someone then the normal version is used otherwise you add a possessive pronoun. Please watch lesson 16 that covers possession.
