O.M.G!!!! I can't thank you enough for making a knockout video that actually works (FOR ME)! I have spent hours upon hours watching, trying and failing to do a "simple" knockout. THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!
Oh my gosh …thank you thank you thank you!!! You don’t know how frustrating it was to do this until I found you … do not stop doing what you. Your step by step for dummies like me was so nice and easy to follow THANK YOU 🙏
WOW After spending many days trying to do this in DS, SCL and Inkspace and very frustrated, you made my life happy again! Also, I must say as a teacher for many years in IT, you are one of the best! Several other YT videos I watched left several steps out! My hat is off to you
OMG!! After wasting an entire day and a half watching other videos I found yours! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! You explained it well, took your time ensure this slow poke newbie was able to follow (I did have to pause a couple times) and helped me get the job done!!!!
Update to my comment requesting assistance on the DIFFERENCE OPTION. I did everything up until I got to the difference option. When I got to that and it didn't delete the back part. Once I got the back ground color by using CTL 0 to the thickness I wanted. The more I used CTL 0 the thicker it got (0 at top not on the numeric key pad) I then saved it as an svg. I then uploaded to Design space and ungrouped it. I then sliced out the thicker font and deleted the parts I didn't want and it worked! 😁😁😁 only took me a few hours to figure it out. OK maybe half the day but I got it. Thanks for sharing your video with us.
Glad you got it figured out. There are ways to do this in Design Space but the purpose of this was to do it easier without using DS since it has so many issues and updates. Lol I'll go back and see where I can clarify that step. Thanks for the feedback. 😁
I FRICKEN' DID IT!!!!! I had to make the text SUPER SUPER BIG then do the Control 0, then the Shift on the large text and then Difference. AND IT WORKED - I'm a little excited if you couldn't tell. I zoomed WAY WAY WAY OUT so the page was super teensy weensy on the screen and using Control and the corner arrow I dragged the two texts (well 3 texts with the one hidden behind the other) and then did the Control 0, still was off a bit so dragged everything even bigger and did it again and it looks GREAT! Then grabbed it all and using Control and corner arrow dragged it back to the page and everything looks great! I've been working for 2 days on this!
Thank goodness for this video! Thank you so much. Subscribed, rang the bell and gave a thumbs up! Going to share this on a craft site I belong to. I spent most of yesterday trying different ways to do this and I KNEW there had to be a way on Inkscape, such a newbie though it took me awhile to find this. I want to do this with infusible ink and do up a t-shirt with GRANDMA and all 5 of my grandkids as the knockout text. Wish me luck.
Great video, though I had problems at first as I used the wrong 0. If anyone have problems with Control+0 it may be that you should use the 0 on top and not on the numeric side of the keyboard. If it still doesn't work try the shortcut "Control+)". If you want more space then just repeat it with that shorcut till you get the preferred offset. ;)
Thanks for saying that. I have been trying for like an hour and it wasn't working. I wish she had said it in the video. Thank goodness for comments. Thanks again for the clarification on the Control 0 but 0 on top #s
@@Sandievdgraaf Now I am stuck with the next step after that when it gets to the actual knock out. When it gets to the next step for (difference) option it's not working for me. Any tips?
@@veronicalandetta445 I work on a PC so it may be different on a Mac. Also, there have been a few Inkscape updates since this video. I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. I will see about doing another update video. :) Luckily there are some awesome fellow crafters who are able to help out here too.
Enjoyed your video, it was so much more informative than others in a shorter amount of time. I chose to save this as "Plain SVG" but when trying to pull it into DS got this "Uploaded SVG contained the following items not supported - Auto Flow Text". Should I have saved it as something else?
Just sounds like there was a layer that may not have been converted. Before you save your svg just go back and click on each layer and make sure at the bottom you see the "### nodes"... If not then just on the layer you don't see that, convert that. Easy fix. Let me know if you still have trouble. :)
I followed along with you and created my own and felt so proud! What a great teacher. You didn't act all superior like some teachers. I will recommend you to all my friends!!

That can be adjusted by how big your design is before you do the "offset" layer. If it's bigger first, the offset will be smaller. If it's smaller first, the offset will be bigger. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions. :)

I am having the same problem. Should my design be big or small when I hit alt 0?
@@EmmilieRoseBoutique Is there a way to make the offset layer larger another way? It still isn't much larger than the original script.
Do you know the short cuts for a Mac? Would it be command 0 the part at 12:35?
Possibly. Maybe try that and see if it helps. :)
did it work for you?
oh man o man, when i get to the offset part control 0 it doesn't work for me. what the heck am i doing wrong? lol
