Kickboxer was released in 1989, I believe; two years after Sagat featured in the original Street Fighter game in 1987-But I can see why you would think that as I did as well till I found out about the SF and Kickboxer release dates.

Sagat is a true Street Fighter OG. He was the first known SF champion and a major part of Ryu's story arch. He has also remained one of the most powerful characters in SF. A skilled Sagat player is a tough matchup for just about anyone. One wish I do have is for an official canon feature or mini series of the origins of Shadaloo and the four Grand Masters. It would have to go back before SF1 to flesh out their backgrounds before they became Street Fighter legends.
I only completed World Warrior recently, on mame but in the arcade days in the early 90's I versed him many many times with champion edition.I must say he was way way more difficult in World warrior .He gave me a challenge!😅
Awesome stuff! Sagat has always been my favourite SFII character, at first because of his imposing size and dominance in those games, but learning more of his backstory, and the layers you mention, made him EPIC. This was a man driven mad by revenge, but seeing his own hate reflected in Dan made him realize how dark that path was, and he chose to let it go.
Awesome coverage of this legendary character. A vast legacy, but also lots of rivalries, and connections. Curious where his journey will take him next. Sagat and King (KoF) seriously.. seeing those two meet in a crossover was one of the most epic moments ever
In my city I had the highest score @ our arcade on SNK vs Capcom 2 w/ Sagat. I unlocked the secret characters and stayed undefeated for a long time... One summer I went on vacation to visit family, @ the local arcade I was on a roll w/ Sagat, a 10 yr old Asian boy faced me 1 on 1.... he Double-Perfected me 😑my cousin who witnessed it replied “it’s ok man, makes sense he beat you, THEY make the game”. I never played the game again.
I haven't played many SF games so far, but with the recent Street Fighter boardgame released (which I enjoy very much) I have found myself watching a lot of your videos for background information and trivia. These character videos especially are great to get context. And they're very well done and entertaining to watch, as well. Keep it up!
....right? Considering the amount of work and research that goes into his videos. Youd think he would atleast know how to pronounce the characters names. Theres zero chance, that he didnt hear someone else say the characters names during research. Its genuinely irking.
@@juiceala yup. Its weird the dude can give such a detailed video. But fail to get a simple, albeit important piece right. The name. Doesnt help that his script contains "saggette" every other sentence. Sagette sounds like a used and abused juggalettes nickname. 😂
Thank you for your information. I always sensed that of all the Shadaloo characters, Sagat was actually a very honourable martial artist who was bound to redeem himself.
Love the video, I always thought I knew a lot about Sagat's lore but I was especially surprised to see the manga inspiration for Sagat's original design. I mained Sagat for SFIV and SFV and I just wanted to clear up a super small detail mistake. 3:30 most iterations of Sagat are actually really defensively oriented, using his long range muay thai kicks to control space and his infamous Tiger Shots to completely dominate fireball wars because in most street fighters his fireballs are pound for pound the most effective single hit fireballs in the roster. He struggles to really put proactive pressure or as you put it "prioritize being on the offence" because of his slow movement speed and the difficulty and risk involved with spacing tiger knee correctly so that its safe when an opponent blocks it. Above everything else Sagat is an Iron Wall character who you have need to break down slowly and carefully much like kicking a banana tree.
Loved this one as well, this is top tier content, after you are done with SF characters you should do SNK fighters, there's like a shit ton of them too.
I'm new to this channel, but watching all these recent SF videos. I cannot but help and laugh at the pronunciations. I don't know if it's a joke but it just makes me laugh

I've been really liking these bios, and I think Sean from three is a cool character and I would also like to know more about the sumo wrestler background of E. Honda, I mean, what does the E stand for. Earl or Eddie, thanks again
Sagat is my favorite . What I want to happen to Sagat is that while he is fighting Necali, or durring meditation Necali steals his soul. Sagats soul is gone but the body and satsui no Hado remain, a thinner faster more sinewy death tiger machine is left. Dark energy flame erupt from his chest as well as his damaged eye. Maybe Sagat makes a deal with the devil(nacali) and loses his soul in order to become a fierce force. The dark energy has his anger/energy/and moveset. I dunno I want to see a thinner more evil Sagat.
Street Fighter was not a broken game. It was just based on the old karate champion game, with special moves. While these special movies are made so hard, because the games mechanics made them hard to pull off.
Street fighter 2 is what made Street fighter legendary , they took time and care to make each move satisfying as even ppl at Capcom felt SF1 was an average game with missing frames so with 2 the Final fight development team hit it head on .That is why I don't like king of fighter and fatal fury etc they are like an updated version of SF 1 being the same creator. The like totally 2D with frames missing
SF1 is terrible... But to be fair it's more of a prototype. They had the right idea but nothing to guide them on what to do with the idea of a 1v1 game. It honestly took a few releases of SF2 to start molding the game into something modern. The entire roster wasn't playable, combos were just a glitch, ridiculously small roster etc, no metered moves... All that didn't get ironed out until Super Turbo
I think you missed the fact that Sagat's original SF2 ending has been retconned ever since the Alpha series came out. In the original, Sagat wanted a fight to the death with Ryu but after the retcon, he no longer wanted a fight to the death and just wanted a fair fight. Also in SF5 which I haven't played, he seems to have two different endings. One was a happier one where he overcame that Satsui no Hadou-like feeling and lived happily ever after with his young disciple and his pet tiger. The sad ending is about his village which was burned to the ground by poachers which Sagat responded by beating them up and him crying with blood tears.
@@mazkeraid4039 I like post-retcon Sagat more. It gave him a much better character and we get to see him at his worst like joining a criminal syndicate and then seeing the error of his ways and becoming a better person on each game.

Firstly. The characters name is correctly pronounced in several games. Secondly. In the lore Go Hibiki took out Sagats eye and he was subsequently beaten to death. That’s why Dan wants revenge against him.

My favorite boss of the Street Fighter series.
Not only Sagat was intimidating but he was so much fun to play as.
