As a LN reader I'm excited and very curious how they'll handle a certain major plot point, because it's gonna be a pain to adapt to an animated format.
For the desert segment, there certainly was a lot cut that was just some fun not so important worldbuilding. Besides a few more monster fights (a sandworm thing, giant army ants, ect), they also hung out with a merchant caravan being guarded by local tribes. They have this whole society where every squad has a few female warriors to help kill the succubi and sleep with the charmed men (which isn't dispelled by killing the succubus). Getting pregnant from such an encounter is a sort of badge of honor and the children are raised by the whole tribe without regard to paternity. The way people in this world organize in places where mages are scarce is something that gets a lot of details in the novels. Eventually this caravan gets charged by bandits and the utility of a mage in large scale conflict is demonstrated. Rudy creates sandstorm, quagmire, and stone walls to cover their escape. Rudy laments that some of the bandits probably died crashing into walls and such, but there's this sort of disconnect because he didn't physically see it. Still it is technically his first time killing humans.
I should really read the light novels. I'm missing peak worldbuilding. It's a shame this kind of stuff gets cut out from the anime, but I understand you have to cut for runtime. ~Alex-senpai
Elenalise's venom toward Paul is a lot more subtext and subtlety than sex. She doesn't think of sex as sacred. Sleeping with Paul was realtively common. She hates Paul because he broke her family when he fell in love with Zenith and left. The Fangs were her family of five years after 200 years of being in hell all alone.
As an anime only watcher, once the anime is finished I'll have to go read the light novels so I can experience what had to be cut for runtime. I'm sure the LNs do shed a little more light on things like this. ~Alex-senpai
Fun thing, MT's author explicitly stated that he was trying to break away from Japan's weird dichotomy around sex. Most view sex as either a sacred union or a hedonistic indulgence, when sex means a lot of different things to a lot of different people in a lot of different circumstances. There's even this running theme in MT of using sex with someone you have a deep connection with as a form of emotional comforting, which is actually kind of effective as much as people joke about it. Not as a replacement for working through issues, but more like a bandaid. Obviously doesn't excuse the cheating, but the show is about seriously flawed people.
The whole backstory of this grudge can be found in Paul Gaiden which is a game however translated documents of the whole story are out there. Honesty, it was an amazing read and loved to see more of pauls character and how others in the story were influenced up to this point
peak isekai? lol...this is peak anime in general, how many stories do this?and do it well?also for anime onlys....you eint readdyyyyy for turning point 4
You're right. Realized after the upload that I mixed up my notes for the first and second cours regarding the director. Hiroki Hirano was listed as the director of season 2 overall, but Ryosuke Shibuya is the director of the second cour of season 2. Sorry about that. ~Alex-senpai

One of the most compelling things about Mushoku Tensei's story is the fact it focuses on some very flawed characters who are far from perfect.
The whole backstory of this grudge can be found in Paul Gaiden which is a game however translated documents of the whole story are out there. Honesty, it was an amazing read and loved to see more of pauls character and how others in the story were influenced up to this point
i think jon should read the light novel and the spin offs
It would be interesting to hear the differences between the light novel and web novel.
@@AnimeClubAfterDarkthe LN has vol 7, great volume. And lots of revision for the plothole details in the WN and side characters focus chapters.
Always fun to talk about Mushoku Tensei! Can't wait for the next season.

Sylphie carved that charm herself as a gift for Rudy's 10th birthday. Other than that you're correct.
Cool
PEAK!!
Hell yeah!
@@AnimeClubAfterDark so PEAK, I’ve picked up the novel and can’t believe how much was left out and it was still that good of an anime!!
It's probably a sign of very well written source material when you can cut so much from the adaptation and the adaptation still be this good.
@@AnimeClubAfterDark Agreed!!
main director 2nd cure is Shibuya Ryoske, WTF
