Tension--it's something I noticed a few years ago that I needed to pay more attention to. Learning to keep an even tension made a great deal of difference.
Remember it might be an exchange from a beginner and they do not know what to expect until they see what others have brought but you are encouraging them in their stitching.
I definitely need something to collect orts in, but they don't need to be fancy. I have two, a old 35mm film cannister for my desk, and a mint/gum container for travel stitching. I may upgrade to a jar someday!
I have thread catchers everywhere. I have dug through the big jar of orts just to get enough to finish a project. When my big jar gets full i will actually dispose it properly
Yes on artist's tape. I use it exclusively on canvas edges, and yes--use it for cleaning up any fuzz as well.

Just got my sampler pack of threads from Painters Thread. Sure you got them. Maybe go over them on a show (how you would use them etc)?
