Imagine someone trying to literally kill you and you being forced to shoot them, and then you try frantically to save their life? This is one of the good cops for sure.
Before this video was released, the family was saying he was an angel and that the shooting was unjustified. The man's brother even said that the trooper should have deescalated the situation other ways than shooting. And a woman who lives a few houses down from the scene said last week she thinks the shooting was likely unwarranted. This all before the video was even released. How's it feel now? So tired of people bashing the police before any video is even released.
Yeah the family demands justice. Now with this video release, they can all see the officer did it by the book. Hope the family realize this. The boy did something incredibly stupid and it costed him his life. On that note, parents should always lecture their kid on what to do during a cop interaction. I don’t think that’s being discussed enough.
Call me mean spirited, but that makes the family scum in my book. I understand they are grieving, but they are trying to run the noble officer’s whole life by releasing statements like that.
@@thelastdragon5551 yeah. need to drill it into kid's heads that when dealing with an officer, always comply. no matter what, even if the stop or situation is unlawful. COMPLY. you can fight the cop's wrongdoing in court. But if you do it on the street, you're the one with criminal charges. And in this case, the one going to the morgue.
Crazy how one moment dude is shooting at you and the next you are calling him sir and trying to save his life. Much respect to this officer a credit to his force.
Dude what the fuck. This is a mad shot. I dont know if anyone around here is familiar with how hard is to being accurate with a pistol and from that distance. 6 ft is already hard to hit in stranding still. This police officer is a beast. Run, no adrenaline, cover, turned around, aim, shot. Like nothing.
@@thestrain. technique was great, but you cannot make those breaks, it makes the cpr ineffective thru lowering an arterial pressure.. as a med student I'm very sensitive to those CPRs :D but awesome he provided the first aid... waaay worse are those bystanders in the background offering no help...
For those deviants out there.. This trooper's marksmanship is incredible. This adult woke up chosing violence. This trooper made sure he performed to the best of his abilities for the community he serves..
Hard to understate how good this cop was. A gentleman, one shot at the target, and then immediately begins life saving measures -- and he tried hard. This, ladies and gentleman, is the ideal police officer.
@@prae2215 no he's trying to stop the bleeding in between compressions. Adrenaline is another factor. I would say his med kit should be more readily accessible and he should have stopped the bleeding first but the dude was probably heart shot so it didn't matter what he did.
Cop was in the process of ruining this man's life becasue he "smelled marijuana". The man was defending himself from an oppressive government and died for it.
I feel for this officer. He has no choice but to shoot and unfortunately the suspect died. But that’s what happens when you try to kill an officer, that’s how they’re trained.
You can tell he practices that exact move everyday. That was a phenomenal shot considering he was in the open and the suspect almost fully behind the truck
I’m retired and remember well that if we needed assistance we would be covered with fellow cops, EMTs, AMTs and often private citizens. The guy here had no help for a long time but operated well. Cops who have to work alone out in a place like that with citizens who hate you and lie their asses off are gutsy.
@@MrCooper83 Did you actually watch the video? Did you see how many people stopped and offered to help that were turned away while he was performing CPR? I’m usually the one criticizing society’s increasing lack of empathy/compassion but that was practically impossible in this instance.
That trooper is a sharp shooter. The accuracy was spot on. He’s not at fault at all. He even approached someone with a gun to disarm him and render help. He’s indeed a good guy.
Bom policial mas pra não morrer tem mesmo que atirar pra não morrer pra mim antes o criminoso morrer do que o policial que presta serviço de segurança para a população
@@CarlosOliveira-oo9fe”shoot to not die” spoken like a true idiot that doesn’t understand how things work. Police are trained to shoot to eliminate the threat which is shooting center mass. It’s the largest part of the body and why they are trained that way. Trying to get someone in the leg or arm is just stupid and gives you more of a chance of getting killed in a gun battle.
The utter professionalism of that Officer, polite, calm then with lightening fast reactions, after which, he does his utmost to preserve life then the the scene. I'm amazed that nobody stopped to offer help whilst he's clearly doing CPR.
Multiple people offered to help, what are you talking about? Did u even watch the video? He turned away at least 3 different people to checked in with him. Weird comment.
This officer deserves positive reinforcement that he made the right decision, and a medal! He tried so hard to change the outcome, he went above and beyond.
The fact that you, as a private party, consciously call out the need for positive reinforcement shows how poorly our law enforcement volunteers are treated. There are so many people who would see deputies like this spend time in jail because they dared use their weapon. How far we have fallen as a society.
@@alexjohnson5677 instead of giving him a medal they should start by paying first responders an actual living wage in southern states. In some parts of NC cops start as 40k a year and have to get second jobs
@@SMJ495 So true Nick. I have two friends who both work as Montana State Police officers and have young families to raise but they both qualify for state assistance with food and housing due to the extremely low pay. One of them did 3 tours in Iraq, is a licensed professional underwater recovery expert along with rescue work hanging out of a helicopter. So much bravery, so little pay
Yea he was so occupied that he walked in hius house like it was no big deal that someone was dying in front of him and he couldnt take 5 seconds out of his day to see if the officer needed help.
Training or no, it takes an exceptional person to show such compassion to someone that was trying to kill you. You're a better man than me. Blessings to you Sir ❤❤❤
Cop has a good shot but took way too long to call for EMS, took way too long to try and help him, never warned the neighbors about the passenger on foot. The cop is not in the wrong by any means, and he did a very good job incapacitating the suspect but he could’ve been faster in trying to save his life
He took a chance approaching and disarming the suspect without backup. I suppose he did it so he could start medical but it was a chance he shouldn't have taken. Normally a cop would wait for backup then approach, it's safer but it delays medical treatment.
Agreed. Deadly force is always a last resort for law enforcement. When used though, and it is safe to do so, they always try to save the life of the one they just used said force on. The bad guy would have used deadly force then gotten back in his truck and left the trooper for dead.
Sorry to sound so abrasive, but 'he did everything he could to save the guys life'? He didn't check his vital signs then immediately gave chest compressions when he knew the guy was still alive. There are too many of these videos where the police do this. Giving chest compressions to a person who has a pulse can kill them. But in this case, he knew he had a pulse. A good lawyer would get the officer jail time for this.
Wow, I just googled this incident and I am shocked at the amount of people that lied about what happened during this incident. The family of the deceased, some neighbors, and even the passenger all Completely lied! They completely blamed the officer for everything and anything they could lie about. I am so glad the incident was recorded so that way this officer, who puts his life on the line everyday to protect these people, was Vindicated! All the people that lied about this incident should have to apologize to this officer and have to do a lot of community service!
We live in a terrible time for police officers. Unfortunately there are a lot of bad people currently masquerading as police officers and it makes it hard for good people such as this man. But I agree that people who go and make public false statements should be held accountable.
The compassion of that trooper trying to save a man who just tried to kill him is beyond comprehension. I wonder if the role was reversed and the bad guy would try to save the trooper’s life after shooting him.
What an absolutely insane and incredible shot. While running backwards towards cover, off balance, from the holster, one trigger pull and target is down. This is in addition to how professional and courteous he was. Amazing man
Agreed. Not only was the trooper's engagement flawless, notice how after he fires on the perp, he absolutely stays locked on target while walking backwards. Awesome to say the least.

Clean shoot if I've ever seen one. Good shot placement. He neutralized the threat in one shot. Impressive. Once the weapon was secured he immediately rendered aid . He did everything right. Consumate professional. Stay safe officer and know we recognize your bravery, commitment, and humanity.
Good officers need to be praised more. In an era of increasingly frequent bad behavior by police (or at least it seems that way because it’s being recorded now) the good ones need to be reminded that they are the golden standard for what good police work looks like. They deserve all the flowers in the world. Kudos to this officer for performing his duty to the utmost of his abilities.
LMAO!!! Yeah, it was a great shot placement to neutralize him all right, but that was the worst cardiopulmonary resuscitation I've ever seen!🤦♂️ He did 3 two-hand compressions then went to one hand then he just stopped and called for backup, then another 5 half-assed two-hand compressions and thought that if he just told him to try and stay alive for him that that would magically keep his heart beating!🥴 You're supposed to do 100 to 120 compressions a minute and breaths in-between to keep air in the lungs, and to force the heart to pump blood throughout the body!🤣🤣🤣 He's a great officer indeed, but he needs to work on his lifesaving techniques.😉
@@ardent1983 I used to feel that way. But, at this point, all of those "good" cops are just as bad as the ones who aren't. And, it's because of their silence, and having the knowledge of the actions of others within their ranks, but saying nothing. It's about time that they are at least held to the same standards as the rest of the general public. For example, if one is a passenger in a vehicle with another and they commit a crime, EVERYBODY in the vehicle is guilty of the same thing, whether they had prior knowledge or not. I'm in my late fifties, and all of this crap got exposed by the Rodney King beating video. Now, here we are several decades later on the brink of a race war because of their crap, and STILL no sweeping changes anywhere in law enforcement nationwide...The ONLY "sweeping" that's been done is to sweep things farther under the rug, all the while those "good" cops are still staying silent. Sorry, but I think it's gone on far too long behind the line that's been laid down by the still very much alive and functioning "Good ol Boy Network."

It seems like a small town area, written protocols and morals are a little different in the country compared to big cities where cops are little scaredy cats usually.
The fact that this officer is alone and had to shoot this guy because he was alone and then take on the task of trying to save this guy is heart breaking because the officer didnt want to shoot or kill any one. This cop is not only an excellent cop, he is an excellent human being. You can see even when this guy tried to kill him, he tried hard to save his life.
For all American troopers, cops, and even infantry soldiers when you incapacitate a bad guy you are supposed to render aid. I remember my infantry buddy showing me a video from Iraq where they sent in a air strike to hit these scum bags setting up an IED. After the bomb hit they had to go in and save those guys. One guy had both legs blown off but lived. It’s just the US rule on engagement.
Most cops are excellent human beings. I have an uncle who was a police officer and i can honestly say that he was the best man I ever met. We lost him back in ‘02 in a car accident while he was on his way home from work one night 😞 R.I.P. Uncle Bobby
That's because we unfortunately have to. Funny though, CPR pushes blood through the circulatory system which now has a huge gaping hole, actually killing him faster.

I don't understand how anybody can think pulling a gun on a cop for not wearing a seatbelt and having a little bit of pot on you is going to end well.
exactly. It was justified the moment the guy got out of the truck and started taking up a defensive position. When a cops life is potentially on the line, they don't have time to check to make sure the person actually has a gun. At the end of the day, it's either the suspects life or the cops life and simply complying makes it far more likely that both will be able to go home to their families
A death wish: "Suicide-by-Cop" is all I can think of. Got what he deserved for his actions, but it is sad when such a young person gets so messed-up that it ends like this. Somebody loved that kid.
I completely agree. I can only assume the suspect did what he did because he had drugs and a weapon in his position. In nearly all states, that's a major felony. Still a stupid choice, but that's probably why.
Omgosh yall are too innocent, i think its cute. Not being a troll, I truly do. But some of those who shoot at officers, while they only got "a little bit of pot" on him along with a firearm, in which ⬆️ is correct, automatic felony. But the thing is, almost all of them are running because they have a felony warrant, think they have a felony warrant, or know that a subpoena for a warrant is coming soon (running from a murder scene, waiting for cops to trace shell casings back to them, etc.) In which, if they get stopped by a cop and they run their info. They're looking at years, decades, life in prison. All though it may look like they're just getting pulled over with weed and a gun.

It’s their job man. You don’t need to feel bad for them. I’m friends with multiple cops and they absolutely love their jobs. If you wanna feel bad for cops for anything feel bad for them having to deal with dead kids, not shooting some scumbag that just tried to kill them.
That’s the path they take. This is the one situation no cop wants to be in. I hope the officer is doing okay knowing that has to live with this forever. It’s something he’ll never forget.
Frantically does everything he can to save someone who likely was about to take a shot at him. His shot was incredible and made under duress. What a professional. For God's sake just take your seatbelt and marijuana infraction like a man. I feel bad for the officer, he did not wake up that morning looking to do anything but serve his community. A noble man.
Cpr speeds up a death when it's a gunshot. Common sense, cover up the hole & stop the bleeding, not pumping his chest making him lose blood. But yeah he tried to save his life. Amazing.
@@squidmissile750 Here's an idea. Don't do drugs, drive illegally or pull a gun on a officer and you won't end up dead. No hysterical screaming, no expletives, no unnecessary follow up shots. And if you’re one of the folks complaining about his CPR technique you should really shut up. I want you to know though it is very appreciated and I for one am very thankful for the good honest hard working officers that serve the public.
I hope having to take a life doesn't weigh too heavily on him. Even if it's fully justified, killing someone can really affect a person mentally, especially someone of conscience.
This officer is by far one of best. Everything from keeping calm, great marksmanship and quickly trying to save the suspect life, and completely honest about what happened.
“The officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The family also says that the shooting was unjustified.” Feels like this happens to every officer now, even if they do the correct thing. This officer did a good job, even with trying to save the suspects life.
Any time shots are fired and someone is actually hit there's an investigation unless under fairly special circumstances, he won't be fired or anything and he's getting pay during it all so really it's just some time to recuperate from having to take a life.
It’s a procedure in every department in the nation. Has been for like 30 years. It has nothing to do with discipline. It’s for a mental break and to allow the facts to be gotten. It would kinda be shitty to have to shoot someone and then be told be back at work in 5 hours for another 12 hour shift after we just had you sitting here 6 hours after your shift while we had you walk the scene so we can figure it all out. My shooting happened like the last 30 minutes of a 12 hour shift. I didn’t leave the scene until 10 hours later. And same thing, shoot someone and then have to go to CPR mode. You have to try to render aid no matter what after. You only shoot someone to stop a threat, once the threat is stopped, then you have to render aid, can’t let them just die there. Sometimes stopping a threat is killing it, that is how law enforcement and military are trained, sometimes the first few rounds can end it, and still allow the person to survive. But you don’t stop shooting until the other person is on the ground and out of the fight.

He also needs proper first aid training. Not that I care that the useless criminal died, but it could come in handy in a situation where an innocent bystander or and injured co-worker might need him to perform first aid on them.

The thing that really struck me about this was how genuinely hard this officer worked to save this guy’s life. He wasn’t just going thru the motions for appearances sake, he truly wanted to help him. All AFTER the dirtbag pulled a gun on him and likely would’ve tried to kill him.
Dirty bag is a racial slur that can get you hate crime charges

The fact that this officer is alone and had to shoot this guy because he was alone and then take on the task of trying to save this guy is heart breaking because the officer didnt want to shoot or kill any one. Just a simple traffic stop turned out deadly and if not for the officer being awear of the situation it could have been him and not the suspect

Athletics were likely not his interest in high school. He was probably a pot head loser
You need to get out of the house and see more people then.
Well, that's his job, too, don't forget that part.
Kinda freaked me out when I saw his body twitching with the muscle spasms and rigor mortis setting in
Most cops are excellent human beings.
You can just feel the Trooper's frustration and disappointment with the whole situation. Having to shoot, immediately rendering aid, waiting for what seemed like an eternity to him for help all while trying to make sure that guy didn't die. I feel for that Trooper, hope he's doing alright.
How can you call that immediate?
@@bettyswolloks The officer called for help and then disarmed the young man. Then you can hear him moving things around in the police cruiser. I believe he was trying to find the gloves and he retrieved a kit of some sort from the cruiser.
It was less than a minute before he was back over with the young man. Feels like an eternity when you first watch it, but the officer does render aid quickly and continues to try until other help arrives.
At 2:27 he walks back to the cruiser and begins cpr by 3:08 just 41 seconds
I’d be worried that his friend would shoot back. Doing CPR in the open like that leaves you vulnerable to attack by others.

Trooper Rodney Cook is an exemplary officer, amazing reflex and defensive shot, showed humanity. Class A.
I feel so bad for this officer. Handled the situation about as perfect as you can while being in fear of his own life, but you can tell he never wanted to do what he did.
If he had just smoked it like a normal person he'd be too chill to to kill... A cop... Attemptedly... Doesn't roll off the tongue as well.
You want me to get a citation for seatbelt and marijuana? No, I want to die right here standing, officer. You got it!
Отличная стрелковая подготовка и реакция! Это очень впечатляет! Быстро ушел с линии атаки и тут же произвел выстрел. Какие-то доли секунды на всё. Какая высочайшая выдержка и отвага

This officer is by far one of best. Everything from keeping calm, great marksmanship and quickly trying to save the suspect life, and completely honest about what happened.
“The officer was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. The family also says that the shooting was unjustified.”
Feels like this happens to every officer now, even if they do the correct thing. This officer did a good job, even with trying to save the suspects life.
It's procedure in most departments, even if you discharge your firearm at the water, the government is gonna wanna know where that round went
Officer will be back on duty in no time. The video evidence speaks for itself. Man has gun. Man tries to aim at cop. Man in the morgue. Case closed…
Any time shots are fired and someone is actually hit there's an investigation unless under fairly special circumstances, he won't be fired or anything and he's getting pay during it all so really it's just some time to recuperate from having to take a life.
It’s standard procedure for any law enforcement too be place on administrative leave after a shooting.
