  • Does the Quran command the amputation of hands? Commentary on Q5:38
Peace and greetings to you all, and may the grace of God be forever in your favor. In this video, I am going to be addressing the question of whether the Quran does in fact command the cutting of hands for the crime of theft. It is traditionally believed that in verse 38 of chapter 5 of the Quran, God commands or instructs the faithful to amputate the hands of the male and female thief if they have been found guilty. However, this is a position that I have found not to be consistent with the verse in question, and I would like to use this video to present my arguments for why I do not hold this view. But before I get into that, let me first establish my foundation for my research. My understanding of the Quran is strictly based on the Quran, and I do not rely on any outside sources to determine what the Quran means when it makes a statement. Furthermore, many of the core concepts that we may have come to learn might not be consistent with the Quranic usage and intent of those terms, and so, when there is a term that I find difficult, I always investigate how the Quran uses that term, rather than rely on what that term has come to mean throughout the many centuries after the prophet.

Alhamdullillah for this video. Very well explained. Traditional Islam translators make people cut hands of thieves. May Allah make this segment go viral in all Muslims communities. ❤❤❤

This can be so dangerous for people who actually have had their hands cut off I believe. Following the Quran wrong is quite a danger but it's also hard to understand for a typical person.

That’s alright. As long as you do not contradict the Quran in the major ways, I see no issue with that. peace as always

      Surah 69 verse 44 to 46, surah 5 verse 92.
Did Muhammad s.a.w add anything other than Al-Qur'an.???
Did he allowed to explain the Al-Qur'an???
There is verse in Al-Qur'an that's says, followed rasullullah... But Muhammad s.a.w is not the only Rasullullah... (Rasullullah is the messenger of Allah). Moses is also Rasullullah and many other..

while I do concur with the *_end result_* that the verse has absolutely nothing to do with _"amputating of hands"_ I do not agree with the way you came to that conclusion.
At the 0:47 mark you said, _"...my understanding of the Quran is strictly based on the Quran and I do not rely on any outside sources..."_
But then you proceeded to _"analyze the grammar of the modern-day Arabic language!"_
Now, please tell me where in the Quran that teaches you to refer to nouns and verbs and grammar to understand the Quran?
There is an easier way to reach the conclusion that the Quran does NOT command the _"amputation of HANDS"_ if you just follow the MEANING OF HANDS as described and defined by the verses of the Quran.
    For example,
36:71 Do not they see that We [We] created for them from what have made Our hands, cattle, then they [for them] (are the) owners?
So, how do you think Allah created everything in the Universes?
    Did Allah use His HANDS?
Okay... now go study the Quran again... but this time forget everything you think you know and refer everything you don't know to the verses of the Quran.
The Quran is fully detailed. Each word or _"terminology"_ is fully described and defined within the verses of the Quran. Often times iit right there in the verse itself.
In your previous podcast, you assumed that TAQWA is some kind of discipline... where did you get this idea of _"discipline"_ from?
Is there the Quranic Arabic equivalent of the English _"discipline"_ anywhere to be found in the Quran?
Please quote the surah and verse numbers if you speak the truth.
Anyway, to get the general idea what TAQWA means... just go study verse 2:2
2:2 This is _Al-Kitab,_ no doubtful matter or interpolation therein, guidance to those who are *Al-Muttaqun.*
So, for the *Al-Muttaqun* where do they find the GUIDANCE?
Is it by going hungry in the daytime during the lunar month the latter day Arabs named Ramadan or by RECITING&UNDERSTANDING the QURAN?
IS THE GUIDANCE OF ALLAH TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE AND IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE QURAN?
    Peace to the world.

@@chillinwithscripture3033#1. I cannot *teach* anybody the Quran. It is Allah who *teaches* the Quran.
#2. joining a live stream would only serve to deflect & distract us from the Quran to the human element/personality.

Arrogance and ignorance! You just tried to teach the brother something from the Quran and when he offers you a platform to express yourself you say you can’t teach the Quran. So contradicting! You should reason with the brother respectfully on his channel so we can all learn from one another. Peace

@@AliveSince1975 You must be Sunni, right?
Presumably the Shafii school of thought and of the South African variety?
The 2 attributes that are deeply ingrained in the psyche of each & every Sunni, Shiite & Sectarian... and those are:
      #1. Arrogance
      #2. Ignorance
That is the reason ehy a typical Sunni/Shiite/Sectarian would react to anything that is against their religion based 99% on their SahihsBukhari/AbuDawood et al.
Furthermore their hearts, minds, intellect, conscience, hearing & sight have been sealed by Allah so they cannot comprehend what the Quran is all about.
When it comes to *the teaching of the Quran* the Sunnis/Shiites/Sectarians will never understand what this surah is talking about:
      Ar-Rahman 55:1-5
      (1) The Most Compassionate,
      (2) has taught the Qur’an,
      (3) He created man,
      (4) and taught him *al-bayan*
      (5) The sun and the moon follow their precise courses,
Now... for those whose hearts/conscience, hearing & sight have not been sealed by Allah...
WHO do you think TEACHES you the Quran?
      a.) Allah
      or
      b.) a human being?
*there is only one book we should read before we die... the Quran.*
