- During a press briefing, journalist challenged US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller regarding the characterization of the UNSC Ceasefire Resolution as 'non-binding.' 'We didn't veto because we thought the language, as it relates to the cease-fire, and the release of hostages, was consistent with the long-standing United States position,' Miller added. According to the UN Charter, all Security Council resolutions are legally binding under international law. Israel is in compliance with the Biden administration’s national security memorandum, which says any country receiving weapons from the US must provide 'credible and reliable' assurances that they’re following humanitarian law.

With other words: its nice to have the UN for the formality and we decide whether we act upon it based on our interests. This confirms my conviction that the UN is an organization invented to legalize the criminal actions of US and its allies and it has zero power against the big economies. Any time someone needs to explain one item by telling you the greater importance any another, indirect item that is all the explanation needed. US uses the UN to achieve it's own goals and ignores when it even mildly disagrees.

If this is the case , then the UN no 181 resolution that created Israel in 48 would also be non binding.

Security Council Resolutions are binding according to International Law and that is why the veto exists. General Assembly Resolutions are on the whole and with few exceptions non biding.
