Some friends and I spent our high school days building our cars into gassers. About the time we got them ready to start racing they ended the class! Love what you're doing with the Stude...
Enjoy your videos , I have to work by myself all the time now. My shop buddy and best friend passed away almost a year ago now. It's hard to get back to all the projects we had going, isn't the same without him around. 50 years of running, racing and caterwallin with him was some of the best years I've had. I'm more into 50s to 70s fords, but would love to build a 32 one of these days. Thank you for 30 minutes of fun and info !
I like your pry bar. I have one very similar with a good story behind it. It was model “A” drive shaft that my father-in-law heated and flattened the end and used it in the 1940’s while working WPA road work. He passed it on to me a few years before his passing. I use it often in my shop. It’s priceless to me. Enjoy your videos. I’m in Southern Ky watching each one.
I have built hot rods since the early sixties. Have special memories of each one. Still at seventy six I still enjoy building. l am finishing up a complete build of a 55 two door sedan bel air. Like to watch your videos also. Looking to see your next one. Keep them coming ! 😊
Loving the progress, I can almost see that straight axle. Also, you're a little spoiled just having a 30 / 31 model A just sitting around as yard art, would be a waste not to build it someday before it rusts away! In the UK they aren't as easy to come by, at least not at affordable prices.
Good stuff! Now, what are you going to use for a front axle and springs? Remember, the guys back in the early '60s couldn't just call Speedway and get a straight front axle/parallel spring/spindle/steering box/disc brake kit! Think you ought to go low buck with a Model A front axle and spring mounted to the original Stude crossmember, and some homemade hairpin radius rods. Might need a spacer between the spring and crossmember to get that front end up some more. Of course., the hairpins would need some 1/8 or 3/16" plate the length of the hairpins between the upper and lower bars........and don't forget to drill lightening holes all the way from front to back! Just my idea of what I would do, looking forward to seeing what you end up doing. 🙂
Hi there pudding Creek i hope you have a merry Christmas with your family and friends And have a happy new year mate and be safe guys a fan from down under Australia 🇦🇺 mate
Metal milk crates... Back in the last century.. Early 70's to be exact I woked in a body shop and those crates were a necessity Just like underwear and socks.... 😆🤣
Love seeing where this is going; but if its going to be the Real Deal, look for an old I-beam axle and springs from a 60s-early 70s Dodge van, (Ford might be similar), rather than early Ford. These are stronger, and will take the abuse of those wheelies! For the rear-end, the 57-64 Olds was the popular choice, much stronger than the earlier models w/ a 9 3/8(?) r&p gear.... Believe Pontiac and Buick are the same or similar. Will need to be narrowed to keep those slicks inside the fenders, and gears changed to lower 3.90-4.56ish. (Randy's Ring & Pinion in WA. state may still have them or steer you to Old Fart Racers who have them stashed.....)
hay Puddin, from the middle of Michigan, if you sell that yard art ,you will be rich ,then you can use those expensive words and still build your bucket . I mean hot rod
@puddingcreekrodshop hay pudding I didn't know i could txt back like this i use to live in Cumberland hts if I still lived there I come over help i don't drink much but I like u r rods
I don't know which fumes are worse , nitro fumes corrode your sinuses , methanol fumes make you cry like a baby , and them burning rubber bushings , seem to stay with you all day long . Now that I've brought up the drag strip smells , don't it make ya hanker for a couple of track dogs , and a Pepsi ? Lol . Bah , Humbug to all , and to all behave yourselves on these cold winter nights .
