It always struck me odd that some of these "grand" holds were nothing more than run down villages, the cities always felt so empty and I always wondered how such sparsely populated areas could ever hope to stand a chance against the multitudes of bandits, wizards, monsters, and vampires. Glad that there's more people trying to make the holds seem more alive.

Speaking of that; I'm actually making an entire overhaul of the Skyrim civilizations; starting off with minor holds, and Riften, along with some new ones, its supposed to go alongside with the TES Frontier Mod, for Winterhold; I've been making numerous Nordic Ruins, and also destroyed walls which once showed Winterhold's Strength, with numerous Rubble, cobwebs, icicles, ETC.
You had me at, "It's only a couple of MB in size". I'm not a huge fan of the ridiculous over the top city overhauls that features tons of new meshes/textures with several GB worth of data. This mod is optimized and gets straight to the point, while also being creative. That, to me, is actually more impressive than the other overhauls.
I have been torn between this mod and JK's Skyrim. I love retaining the vanilla feel in my game but just enhanced a touch, both mods certainly do that to varying degrees. Great Cities really does make the towns and cities more grandiose than their vanilla versions. I love the concept behind it and how they evolve the main characteristics of the city/town rather than overhaul them (E.g. Turning Dragon Bridge into a fort or the Falkreath graveyard expansion). However a lot of it feels superfluous and empty, Solitude was especially disappointing. Interiors were pretty bland and there's not much to interact with in general. JK's Skyrim, on the other hand lacks the splendour of GC's and the additional stuff added to cities is about 50% clutter. What it does do though is fill previously barren space, add a few extra buildings and adds NPC's that feel like they belong in Skyrim. My favourite addition is the Northern Star general store in Dawnstar, a city that was desperately lacking in trade despite it supposedly being a major port. JK's Skyrim blends more naturally with the original Skyrim experience but Great Cities is more of a spectacle. It's a tough call.
@@MrNovember41 I tried a bunch of cities and villages overhaul mods which add so much in size and buildings but they're all empty, bugged or not properly navmeshed, in comparison this looks really nice and fleshed out. Hey Brodual, nice video my friend I hope you continue to give us more content like this or you could maybe do a rp playthrough of the game so that you can play with all those mods.
I use this mod collection on my game, it definitely adds more to the feel of the game, making each city feel a little more unique and important. My only complaint is with Dawnstar, while the added docks are wonderful the rest of the town feels a bit too cluttered and cramped with the extra walls. But all in all nice improvements overall to the rest of the cities. For a little more immersion I highly suggest the Granite Hill mod tgat adds a town to the crossroads in Falkreath territory, theres even a cool little dungeon adventure too. Granite Hill was originally going to be put in the game, the jarl of Falkreath even mentions it in his dialog, but the developers never made it. This mod adds it in and it feels very natural to the game. That along with Aurora finally gives Falkreath hold some actual inhabitants, as the population for the entire hold in the vanilla game literally consisted of just Falkreath and a lumber mill.
