One thing to take from this is her father believed her when she said Charlie was real. Many parents don't do that
He actually thought it was her imagination at first, not until later in the movie did he think it was the neighbor.
After a fully grown woman is found dead in your house with the only suspect being a little girl with no weapon anybody would begin to think that charlie is real
He was ready to hide a body for his daughter-
@@sokayconnor Only to realize, he hiding the body for himself
@T Free ?, How?🤨
These are the kind of horror movies I enjoy instead of the over the top supernatural ones. It’s scary how people’s brains can react to traumatic experiences
Its not scary because this doesn't happen, DID is highly misrepresented in media and quite stigmatizing. People get DID because of heavy trauma, the brain creates alters so that the host doesnt have to experience any negative or traumatising situations. They won't act violent unless its self defense, because that would be more traumatic. People with DID are very scared and fragile people, not evil or psychopathic. Also DID starts at a very young age and when they have grown up they are usually aware of their alters. So this is definitely a "supernatural" movie because this doesnt happen.
@@alyssewonderland7465 Exactly 👏🏻.
@@alyssewonderland7465 exactly, a lot of people think DID is some sort of psychopathic disorder like the one displayed in SPLIT.
@@alyssewonderland7465amen. i hate how many movies there are about DID and how wrongly they portray the mental illness... as someone that know how much a person can suffer about DID it's so disappointing to see this, yes ig its interesting but at the same time it can make ppl assume that ppl with DID are psycho and or a killer... :(

3:15 when David turns around to see who the culprit is thinking it's his daughter because she's the only one in the room, but the camera catches David's reflection in the mirror AKA "Charlie" in the room, is a great piece of foreshadowing! Makes me wonder how directors think of such clever things.
Edits: Thanks for the likes also quick side note on the whole me thinking Robbin Williams was the actor that played David, it was defenantly De niro, my memory is just weird lmao
Also I don't know why but I remember watching this as a kid and vividly remember Robin Williams playing the role of David. And I mean EXTREMELY VIVIDLY. I even remember his voice clear as day at the part where Emily talks to robin Williams and he's wearing a yellow rain jacket and NOT de niro!!. @@yinheiwa Perhaps you’re experiencing the Mandela Effect?🤔

@@yinheiwa I THOUGHT SO TOO!!! I was so confused when I saw Robert De Niro! Maybe we’re just mistaking it because of the movie I Am Sam.
There's an alternate ending where Emily ends up in the hospital and after being locked in her room she begins playing hide-and-seek. She opens the closet and door and says found you while looking at a mirror.
I believe there are 4 or 5 different endings to this movie. I own the DVD and you can choose between all the endings. A few end with the whole idea of here having DID, and some ending a little more happily where Emily is okay and living with Katherine with no issues.
Honestly, this movie is one of my favorites because of how well written it is and the different endings.
Can someone plz tell the movie name?
@@arko5959 Hide and Seek
@@LxstinNeverland thanks:)
@Velvet Ska the first is the theatrical ending, the one shown here. Emily is happy with Katherine but shows a drawing of her having two heads, or DID.
The alternate ending (also the happiest) is the same as the theatrical except she only has one head in the drawing so everything is fine now.
Another version shows her with Katherine but she's playing hide and seek and says "there you are" in the mirror, suggesting that she has DID.
The fourth ending is where Katherine is saying goodnight to Emily in her bedroom but when she leaves, she locks the door and we see that Emily is actually in a psychiatric ward.
The final ending is with Emily counting down playing hide and seek, but she's in the psychiatric ward.
Honestly this is one of my favorite movies.

I was probably around the girl’s age when I first watched this movie and I remember feeling completely and utterly betrayed finding out who Charlie was. The way the Dad’s faced changed still sends chills.
i believe the reason he was "in his study" while Charlie fronted( i believe thats the right word) is because there is such thing called a headspace where alters go when they're not fronting. my friend briefly explained this to me as they have DID and tell me about what its like but i believe David being in his study was actually getting kicked out of fronting and unknowingly forced into the headspace which is him in his study.
I’ve been trying to understand that part of the movie for yearsssssss! Your comment makes so much sense, thank you!

Yeah...only this time someone actually just use to murderer live one house. Which is what make the Twist more un-expected
This was a really good summary, you did a great job. Along with the explanation too. But as good a movie as this was, I wish it depicted DID in a better light, especially considering DID is a trauma-based disorder that's caused due to things like sexual, verbal, and physical abuse as a young child. DID is a way for a child to cope with such horrible things before they're old enough to develop their personality, which causes multiple to form. Plus most of the time, there are more than two personalities, which are called alters. The thing about these movies that makes me angry is that the people who have this are victims and have been through a lot in their lives, yet movies like this and Split portray them as evil and serial killers.
it was just a cool way for an unexpected plot twist lol if he just had DID for no reason in this movie it wouldve been boring if yk what i mean
I have a question. Why does sex make them become sick?? What is the biological and psychological explanation that lead people to have such a disorder??
SJW has been found
Movies tend to not give an accurate representation of a lot things (at least not 100%). Turn books into films is another. Because of this, it's generally a good idea to take them with a grain of salt.
It would be an interesting topic for a mystery/horror movie where the main suspect has DID, but instead of the stereotype, they’re practically harmless. Instead, the perpetrator was actually they’re sibling/friend/whatever was taking advantage of the person’s DID to commit atrocities. Because of the DID stereotype the movie would focus mainly in this character and make them seem suspicious, but they’re harmless. I think it would be both fun and more accurate than the stereotype.
(I posted this on another comment. Tell me what y’all think).
I have a bf who has this Disorder... Kinda weird but I understand his situation...
Good thing though his other self isn't a psychopath...
Thank goodness, are this comment would've never been posted
what is it like for you, seeing the two sides of him?
Yow I'm curious, what does it felt like?
What are his two personalities like... Can you easily distinguish between them?
Real people with DID doesn't have a "dark side". Unless if you're already evil inside.
Johnny Depp has a movie like this, The Secret Window.
We'll take a look. Thanks for the recommendation 🙏

Most of the time I would hope for twists like this but in this movie, I didn't expect it at all 😬😬😬

That twist though! I honestly wasn't expecting that. Poor Elizabeth though, she was a sweet woman
yess a new movie!! i love your channel so much

@@mysteryrecappedofficialI like your channel too!😊
All this time I thought Charlie was just an invisible, imaginary friend, but turns out to be the father, himself. He's the one who killed his wife, talked and played with Emely, wrote the bloody words and killed Elizabeth, I call that ' double personality '. Damn, that's messed up.
I love this movie so much, it's one of my favorites! I re-watched it last night and noticed the reason why their favorite game was "hide and seek" throughout the movie was because when David caught his wife cheating with another man they were playing hide and seek before making out on the stairs (he was saying "come out come out wherever you are"). I guess that is when his Charlie persona was created. I did see the other alternate endings for this film and they are a bit spooky too!
Wow, this twist went over my head. I thought it would've been a ghost boy, or somebody who was at the party and knew something would happen. Having the DID twist was very shocking, but makes the movie give you a moment of shock. After I heard about the DID, I literally gasped. Really good movie
Dakota was a beautiful child, I’m not surprised she’s a beautiful adult now. :3
Strange how they own a cat but never interact with it; pet it, call its name, play with it etc.... the cat is just there.
Imagine how many movies this guy has watched for his content
i wonder what Emily wrote in the diary 🤔🤔
also, im confused bc it seems like Emily would hate Charlie right from the start bc of what he did to her mom but in the movie, she says that Charlie is fun like her mom used to be. or maybe she was just scared of him so she acted like she liked him or i guess it could be a way of showing David how much she misses her mom and kinda saying "why did you kill her, i loved her" but she probably didnt know that David doesnt remember any of it.
how many movies until parents realize that "imaginary" friend is very much real :|
The personality disorder might also be genetic, passing from father to daughter, and since she is just a child the trauma and disorder would be more damaging.
The entire time I felt like the movie was so familiar, but chalked it up to me just growing up on Dakota Fanning being an amazing actress, but then I realized I HAD seen the movie as a kid!! I remember the dad going up the stairs singing “papa’s gonna buy you a mockingbird”
The scary part is thag I thought it was paranormal, when in reality these situations sadly happen. This is why I'm being a psychologist I want to help find the good in people and not have them see these terrors bc they don't deserve them
If you're going to be a psychologist then you should know that this movie is not at all how DID works. It is created from childhood trauma, and alters aren't secretly serial killers. This movie is inaccurate and offensive.
@@CreativeC13 It's a movie, no one said it was accurate or based in reality. If you're offended, go watch something else. I didn't watch this and go "Oh no all people with DID are murderers!!!!!". It's a movie. Grow up.
When she kept repeating "Charlie" I was dying laughing bc she was not playing with/lying to him
