Huge McLaren fan. I was disappointed with Pato's move. Can't believe he went for it with less than 10 laps to go. The goal is to win the 500, but he must also contend for the championship.
It was a last-lap desperation move with eight or nine laps to go. As far as the "right" way to knock somebody out of the way, see the finish of the '89 Indy 500.
Pato made a last lap move with 9 laps remaining. Kid reminds me of a young Takuma Sato when he would dive bomb inside moves and it rarely worked out. The rest of the season it’s going to be the Mexican Bull in a China shop vs every Ganassi car, especially Dixon & Ericcson. Should be entertaining to say the least.
You could tell as soon as he went on the inside that that move was never going to work. Probably frustrated at the launch where he lost two spots trying to get it all back but that was bad sadly :(
The only late Indy move I ever had respect for was a year or two before he won, Sato was in second going into the last lap or so and sent it into the turn past first place (clean), yup he crashed. But I’d rather see that than settling for second
As a Ross Chastain fan I love seeing the low percentage moves and hearing Diffy call them. I've had Pato O'Ward fever for years and I hope he keeps the fun going. As long as nobody is injured, naturally. 😊
Guy’s Pato brings excitement to the series as well some others hungry young drivers, the way I see this new generation it’s only helping Indycar grow. I prefer watch indycar over Formula 1, there’s excitement and equal competition here, not so much in Formula 1! We already know who’s going to win this weekend race before even starts. So let them race the rubber out of those tires😂😂
I’m not a fan of the red flags either. If they are going to do it, they should have established rules before the race. What would have happened if Ericsson botched the final restart? Would he have been declared the winner?
Pato was far enough up on Erickson before the turn and Erickson took off his nose. Erickson didn’t need to leave him room, I don’t think they have those F1 style rules, but it was a dick move and definitely worth repaying. Squeezing him is one thing, running him into the grass is another, but Pato has brakes and could’ve possibly backed out enough, tho Erickson came over so quick he might not have been able to. It’s one of those things that if you’re a Pato fan you see it one way and an Erickson fan, the other. Earlier in the race, the pass is made tho.
He had 10 lap fresher tires than any of the front runners with 8 to go. Why the hurry? Before the caution he passed everyone on pure pace. Nothing but impatience.

Pato was on better tires so he had time to pass Marcus and Josef after the bad restart. He didn't need to do that
This wreck was completely on Pato. He got behind and forced the issue and paid the price.
