the fact that the goose mother makes half X food tokens rounded *UP* is really interesting. I feel like we rarely see that and it makes the card way better
Goose Goose Goose. But I'm not sure if this was emphasized enough, but the dual color adventure cards can be used as a mono color if need be. It's nice to stay flexible if you open one of those, it doesn't necessarily lock you into those two colors as a normal gold multi-color card might do during draft.
And its not like we didnt have cringe before, the whole plane of eldraine is "grimms tales, but edgy" the sugar monsters are literally the point of the setting
@ich3730 I don't even find it cringe tbh, it's like expected and therefore doesn't break immersion. Maybe it's because as a gamer I'm used to fantasy and silly stuff. Like in Cuphead you fight a giant dancing flower. In Conker's Bad Fur Day you fight The Great Mighty Poo. Even in Elden Ring you have the Jar warrior Alexander. Is it silly? Yeah but no one thinks it's out of place or stupid. It's literally what you expect to see in those universes.
@@vulcanh254 eh i think theres a line thats different for everyone. And its definitly not "expected" to see machine-produced gummy worms in a fantasy setting. All of your examples have these whacky elements grounded in the lore or ( like conkers bad fur day ) are straight up parodies and dont need to ground anything.
@ich3730 You said it yourself, it's about the lore and setting. I didn't say gummy monsters are expected in any fantasy setting. They are fully expected and fitting on the Eldraine plane because of the eldraine lore.
Tempest Hart is the first creature you see after you go Up the Beanstalk. Best flavor win of the set!! They both play perfectly with Troyan, Gutsy Explorer, which I plan on losing to 30% of the time in limited.
As everyone in Twitch chat pointed out, he misread Seek the Beast//Questing Druid; it reads "until your next end step", meaning you can cast the adventure anytime on your opponent's turn, and still play the cards you exile on your turn.
@@enricodedonato8529it’s not better. Reckless impulse lets you cast the cards for two turns, this you basically need to cast on your opponent’s end step. Imagine needing a third land with this. You probably can’t play your other card unlike with reckless impulse
@@tonysmith9905 I think it would have replaced it if it was monoblack, but playing green just to play him and glissa doesn't seem a good plan honestly.
I think the problem with Boros equipment decks in Standard is that they just don't print enough good Standard equipment anymore. Those decks have worked in older formats with Hammer or Jitte or SoFaI but not even the best Standard enablers can make stuff like Dueling Rapier constructed playable. There's a big gap in power between Hammer and Rapier but they don't seem to be willing to go further.
I think the reason is cause whenever equipment reaches that threshold in standard it just becomes kinda ubiquitous in the decks that can run it. The last really strong equipment that comes to mind was embercleave and running an equipment deck around it didn't really make sense cause it was just better in conventional aggro decks. I think they need to find a sweet spot where the equipment isn't so strong that every deck that can play it does, but also strong enough that equipment enablers become worthwhile. I'm not surprised they're being so cautious with it, equipment historically has been the card type they probably struggle the most with balancing.
Turn 2 Burning-Tree Emissary into Ruby, Daring Tracker, into Ragavan or Dragon's Rage Channeler seems good. Ruby is fine as a 1/2, but if you want to trigger her 2nd ability, you could play a Tarmogoyf on turn 3, which gets to be a 4/5 if you have evoked Fury, cracked a fetchland, cast a Lightning Bolt and a Mishra's Bauble.... and if you wanna get silly with turn 3 blitz, how about Ball Lightning & Groundbreaker?
My goal for this set is to use Yenna's copy on Defense of the Heart in limited at least one time. (Defense of the Heart is on the bonus sheet for Wilds draft packs). Tudoring your 4 best creatures and putting them straight onto the battlefield sounds will be fun.
Quirion Dryad was reprinted in Core Set 2021 and was utterly unplayed. Then there's Quirion Beastcaller which is better in that it's a cast trigger and it can distribute its counters on death but it's still unplayed. So, yeah, unfortunately it seems like the Druid will be Questing far less than the Beast.
Tbh I just think Talion is generically better than most think. Drawing cards is really good & so is flying. Plus the psychological pressure of "Playing your favorite stuff helps me too" can have a real impact on a game. In my opinion the only serious downside it has compared to Shelly is the 4 defense rather than 5.
OMG! I just realized that Greta, Sweettooth Scourge is based on Gert from Skottie Young's "I Hate Fairyland". Who else uses an axe to kill candy creatures?
6:38 if your opponent's creature/planeswalker (or the opponent themselves) dies, your creature is still a legal target for Burn Together and will be sacced. It's a bad fight card that will often(?) go face.

honestly, the set review having 20 times in it with "this card would be great, except it has to be compared to sheoldred and can't compete" is another of the many reasons that suggests she ought to be banned. the fact that invoke despair got banned and we still have to deal with sheoldred still just blows my mind.
I think Imodane's Recruiter, while being a good signal card for Boros, is not nearly as good as Ash, Party Crasher. Boros wants to empty your hand asap, and Train Troops for 5 mana looks like it's not gonna get cast until very late game if at all. The floor of the card: a 2/2 for 3 mana which gives itself +1/+0 and haste just doesn't seem worth it either. I'm gonna pass this card even if I'm drafting Boros.
Talion feels like more fun to play against Sheoldred... With Beseech the Mirror coming in with WOE... I sincerely hope Shelly is banned, and we look at Talion in a different light as a 4 drop.
Black red in this set shall be dubbed “Ratdos”
You're dedication is very evident! I can see the progression of you getting tired but ya trooper through!

I don't get the hate for candy monsters. 😂 I think they're cool and part of Eldraine's identity. It's like hating vampires or werewolves in Innistrad.

It definitely shows how people like different things. I think they are the best flavor in Eldraine 2 easily.
Glad to see The Goose Mother as the sleeper, my favorite new card from the set for sure.
Slowly building Goose tribal, and I'm very here for it.

Cept he totally said that as well?
Exactly, it's actually better than Reckless impulse. The only weakness of the card is that the creature itself is not very exciting.
He literally even mentioned that you should cast it at the end of your opponents turn.

Yes I was right about Mosswood Dreadknight 😊
Calling it now, it's not gonna be any better than Underdog.

Thanks for the set review - looking forward to prerelease tomorrow night and this will help immensely with deck build!
I wish that Hylda was "tap untapped permanent" because then it would be such a fun build-around.
Shades of Shelley on that Trap pick
Elusive Otter is going to be great UR prowess was really just missing another 1 drop and cantrip and got both in this set
I wonder if Beluna could help revive the Adventure deck in Pioneer. The cards are all there, it's just too slow for the format.
You can play your opponents lands off decadent dragon too.
Even if it doesn't happen in Ten new brews I hope you get a chance to check out a current bard class pile before eldraine season passes
Yenna is also amazing in selesnya enchants for standard. Copying an ossificstion/ossificstion or even a Calix would be amazing

To an extent definitely
Decadent Dragon's art doesn't seem to match the card. It looks so bleak for what's supposed to be a dragon living in luxury.
