    Love the Cortina. I had a matchbox or should I say still have the Cortina toy but that thing is wild. Its so funny the old fireball v-8 was dropped by GM but Rangerover used it for decades. I am glad he chose that unusual platform to modify it to insane. Love his collection.

    That pic at 9:21 and Rich's story about going to the drags with his dad really says it all to me...the sheer worldwide universality of car culture along with the pride, sense of self-expression and communal spirit that accompany it. Kids in England and Europe, Australia and New Zealand, had their own versions of the same thing that we were doing--and are still doing--in the States and Canada. Hanging in the garage (or "gah-raj" as Brits might pronounce it ; )) on a weekend or after school, no doubt with some good rock on the radio, bonding with buddies ("mates") or family, laughing, joking, talking about anything and everything. Maybe a couple of beers, or a smoke break now and then if one was so inclined. Me, I never smoked, but not averse to a nice brew now and then. I knew plenty of such times, and so many of the people we shared them with are gone now. Some have moved on or moved away, some are gone from us too soon. One photo, within one very cool and exciting video, evoked all of that for me.

      I had a '66 Cortina GT when I was a kid. Wish I had it now. Paid $150 for it back in 1972. 2 door, bucket seats, 4 on the floor, factory headers, Weber 2 barrel.
      A blast to drive.

    I just read something recently about the establishment of a British Drag Racing Hall of Fame in the UK. It's great that the drags command a loyal following and that there are strips in so many nations--from England to Malta to Finland to the Netherlands and beyond.

    First time I saw a car ( the cortina ) with a solid fr. axle gasser style , and independent rear suspension , have to assume a solid hi-power rear axle is more rare in england than a Jag set-up ...

    • @rustedratchetgarage6788
      @rustedratchetgarage6788 6 лет назад

      Leonard Carr i get thats the look but its a streetcar not a dedicated racer otherwise he would be using a solid rear axle its basically a t bucket under a cortina body

    • @rustedratchetgarage6788
      @rustedratchetgarage6788 6 лет назад

      Leonard Carr brits make me laugh i agree work with what ya got but yall do have solid axles available there and imagine how sketchy a wheelstand would feel in that thing whith all the rear sqaut toe changes

  • @welloiledmachinesaz
    @welloiledmachinesaz Год назад

    The Cortina is not a dragster. In drag racing it would be a gasser or in some places it would be an altered. Not every car that goes down a dragstrip is a dragster. Don Garlits drove a dragster, John Force drives funny cars. One of Force's daughters drives a dragster.
