I’ve sailed a centaur for 5 years. Based on a recent course plot to windward, my centaur points around 53 degrees off True wind. I calculated apparent wind to be 36 degrees. Seems to point well given it’s size, draft and ballast.
Zak they usually go for between 3k-10k depending on condition. Be sure to have the boat surveyed by someone who actually looks for all potential issues(an alarming number or surveyors do not) before buying anything.
@@tforsyth77 thanks! I know I need to check the keel attachment, and need to figure out how to do that. Maybe where the bolts come through in the bilge?
@IIWII I did end up passing on the boat, but really appreciate the reply! The price was great at a little over $3k! I passed because the raw water-cooled Volvo diesel had gone bad (original from 1969). The final straw was the fact that I am 6'1. Crazy what the 1" of headroom did to my eagerness to do a repower. Great boats though! I have been searching for it's bigger cousin (with more headroom), the Berwick. Those seem to be few and far between here in the USA. Let me know if you have any thoughts.
Nice images. As a Westerly Centaur owner I'd reduce the genua and the mainsail even more. Same speed, less tilting.
That just took about 30 points off my blood pressure. Thank you.
Nice tack looks like your against the tide. Good boat. Nice bit of footage. I bet it was nice to get into Newtown creek.
Nice! The Centaur is small but brave!
She is a good boat.
Your crew, is he the chap who sailed with Dylan Winter in a Centaur up the east coast?
Might be the camera angle, but looks tad overcanvassed to me.
Gripping stuff!
Bit of a slow tack their gent's
From what I've been told, twin keels don't do so well sailing against the wind
While that's certainly true that was a blown tack. Guy lost all of his speed and let the sails flog
How high would you say that you get to point in this boat on average? I'm looking at buying one..

@@tforsyth77 What does an average condition Centaur with everything working sell for in the U.S.?
