  • I delivered this lecture yesterday to my Contemporary Fiction class on Postmodernism and Poststructuralism to set up our discussion of David Foster Wallace's SOMETHING TO DO WITH PAYING ATTENTION later this week.

Great stuff. You should post more of these lectures/discussions. Fluid, thorough, and concise.

Idk why, but that thumbnail makes me envision a cyberpunk version of Blood Meridian. Or maybe I just really want one.

@@AmericanGwyn sounds like a great writing prompt, Blood Meridian in different genres to see how its story and ideas can be interpreted or reimagined or retold in different ways.

I laugh every time someone calls something "based" because I remember back when calling something "based" meant "like freebase cocaine" aka Crack
People have no idea they are calling their favorite hot take artist crack heads and I love it so much.

Its kind of amazing how far that word has gone even just since 2015. The cultural reach of the online politics of that era is really bizarre in retrospect. People were tapping into some transformative energy that left no stone unturned in its wake

This is illuminating for some stuff I'm doing on postliberalism. Thanks for making these approaches more accessible for me!

Thanks for this - I've been hearing these terms for years but always in politically/morally/emotionally charged conversations, which make it very hard to actually understand the concepts. I'm not saying I understand them fully, but I'm a bit closer, so again, thank you!

I love the way he dismisses and outright mischaracterizes one of the most important eras of American history, the sixties.
The hippies said everything is permitted and ran around and got std’s. LOL.

Fun fact, “based” comes from a rapper called lil b the based god and he is a TERRIBLE indie rapper who has done and said varying levels of insane things, up to and including kidnapping and sexual slavery. I’m pretty sure it’s a meme that Lil B isn’t actually fully aware is against him (which it is as far as I understand)
