He was lucky though. Back from the last "Feinfahrt" with his old comrades he got on leave and married his future wife. He returned to duty a few weeks later on another U-Boat and destroyed several more allied ships until he surrendered in May 1945.After the war he even became good friends with the former head of the Kriegsmarine Karl Dönitz. I still have a picture of him together with Dönitz from the early 70ties. May god bless him for his service. Im so proud of him.
