The traditional problem for Slovakia was not the quality of their top players, it was their depth because they had to pick from a limited pool of talent. So, once in a while they had a successful run but struggled in the meantime. However, something clicked lately under the leadership of Miroslav Satan and their current U20 and U18 generation looks promising. It's one thing for such a small country to produce one or two draft picks and quite another to produce twenty of them in the same year. However, if they keep doing what they do, their men roster can return to respectability in a couple of years. It would be a shame if this didn't happen because Slovakia is one of the few European countries where hockey is even more popular than soccer.
Traditional problem of Slovakia after '89 is corruption. This penetrated into hockey as well, and with more people getting rich, talent and hard work many times become not enough to get further, to get a chance. Parents who can't afford to ''donate'' will see their kid on the bench or in B team. This is already on top of the hockey being expensive sport in general. I believe the Satan is the one who can start the change of mindset there. Otherwise hockey in Slovakia will be doomed.

They almost didn't take him. But what a move it was, the team knew what they were doing. Might I also add, he was on the 4th line for the majority of the tournament, but got bumped to 1st later on. He was so hungry, so energetic, he's really enjoying the game and you can see he's a step above the others. The stickhandling has always been there, but he's really developed as a two-way player. The 7 goals, it's magical. Some of them would be "buffet" goals like he would say, empty net and all that, but, even when you take this away, for a 17 yo guy, he had a great tournament. The whole team had. That defence, and goalie Rybar averaged 96.58 % save percentage. Mental. Slafkovsky was taking shots, collecting pucks, towing hauls and scoring goals, and that's all you could want from him now. I think the NHL scouts are watching, closely.
Slafkovsky and Rybár(goalie) are both in ALL-STAR TEAM. UNBELIEVABLE. Really proud to be Slovak.

lmao I thought you'd make a video on Slafkovsky right after the bronze medal game... Still waiting for it :)
@@jakubskalos677 same
Because Craig Ramsay
It’s shocking how ramsay managed to get slaf this good, but nemec kinda…didn’t do much
@@Windyyyyyyyyy Sadly, he was playing only few minutes each game. But thats Craig Ramsey game, he has a system and u have to fit it in
Slaf gives me hope that the islanders can find an offensive dynamo….that is if he can drop to us 😅😅
Je to veľmi dobrí hrač Juraj Slavkovsky
He is number 1 I said it. It is so.
HOPE HE IS NEXT KINGS PLAYER
Slovakia!
Proud to be Slovak!
I hope Montreal drafts this kid
there are many talented people out there - shamelessly government not paying ordinary people enough to thrive!
I am realy proud that I'm Slovak
Another Wayne Gretzky and Jaromir Jagr class.
End up being first choice at the draft.
Lets ask this, if he was Canadian, Wouldnt he be 1st pick?
An interesting POV to take, quite possibly :)
Well this aged well🤣
SLOVAKIAAAA :)
im from Slovakia. Slafkovsky is best!!!
Slovakia 😍🇸🇰
I'd love to see him in a Habs jersey tbh
I think it's time for part 2 my brother.
I think it is too ;)

Great guy! But it's a team game.
4:20 And also tell me that this kid would be #1 overall on NHL draft 🎉
#1 by Montreal Canadiens and very well deserved! Montreal playing it smart and drafting 2 Slovaks in rd 1. #history #montrealcanadiens
4 years later in In Milan Olympics... you will hear this name.... a lot... mark my words. And this time he will be wearing 🥇
Only if nhl let their players participate in Olympics 🤔
@@Spyracik which they ALLWAYS do...
