The scene where Benny is going to and from the bank is brilliantly choreographed with the different police vehicles... like a ballet. Kudos to the director!!
+Mark Burnett NYPD didn't like the cops' portrayals like Toody. Actually the series got canceled in mid-season of 2nd season. I remember coming to high school class the next morning and asking why it wasn't on its usual timeslot. One of my classmates smiled and said, "The cops took it off." or something like that. I went to a HS in the Bronx where lots of the outside scenes were shot so watching these episodes is like a visit home especially to that time period.
+Bob W Really a shame, the NYPD apparently lacked a sense of humor. I think it could have went on at least another season.(But then who would have played Herman and Grandpa in 1964 f Fred and Al had done another year of Car 54? Lol.) At least there are 60 classic episodes to treasure! :)
Really hated when they pulled (cancelled) the show, but the NYPD hated it. I had a uncle in NYPD and never got his opinion. Love the dining room scene. This is one of my favorites along with "Pretzel Annie".
It just seems wrong that a goofy show like "I Love Lucy" (which mostly consists of Lucy making faces) is so many times considered a great sitcom while a very funny show like this one is ignored when talking about the best comedies of the past.
Yes. By any metric,Lucy was a terrible wife. She was constantly wasting her husband's money, lying to her husband, and causing problems. What was so funny about that?
Amos and Andy was hilarious too. More so than other sitcoms of the time. Maybe too good. IMO Sanford and Son had the negative depictions depictions of Blacks.
The owner of the Mens clothing store “ If he can beat my brother in law to the cash register He’s welcome to it “ Is the Dunkin Donuts Man “ Time to make the Donuts”.
Good catch! Yes, that's Michael Vale. He wasn't even 40 when this was filmed. He was in a few other episodes too. His career was mostly TV in the 60's through the 80's but he was in over a thousand different commercials.
I was 9yrs when show aired. Brings back memories.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful show ,one of my favorites good tv not like today’s trash tv.
Never fails to give me some good belly laughs. the opposite of shows today.
Such a great production, Thank you so much for the upload.. Bless.
A great show the whole family can watch together.
Yeah and it's still adult humour.

📺📺📺📺 EXCELLENT TV SERIES CAR 54 🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔🚔
Those were the days when. TV shows were great they had character and substance.
Lee Zeidel When the Presidency had character, substance, and SANITY.
At least the comedies were really funny!
Good clean fun. Great writing!
CLEAN, OUTSTANDING, EAST COAST "NEW YORK BRONX" PRODUCED ENTERTAINMENT.

Car 54, Where Are You?, an American sitcom that ran on NBC from 1961 to 1963
The Munsters (72 episodes, 1964-1966)
Backdoor Benny 😂, those colorful nicknames are a fabric of today's culture dats missing
Outshines the majority of today's so-called television "entertainment!".
+toni jay Absolutely! :)
+toni jay It would have to be tied for second with "Sgt Bilko" since it had the same creator, Nat Hiken. And Sgt Bilko lasted longer.
+Bob W Why didn't it get re-newed for a 3rd season??

Great show, no profanity. Just good clean fun.

Pretzel Mary!
Bob W Supposedly the only TV series that the NYPD liked was “Barney Miller”.
The NYPD is great! I had one laughing the other day, when I was joking around. They are great with crowds and keeping this huge city, pretty safe!
Another Great Episode !! Thank You Duke Beers For Sharing 😄
that's a guy that realy loves the big house!
Back when television was simple and didn’t need sex, violence or bloodshed to get your attention.
Daytime tv at it's finest.
This show was the exception. Nearly every other prime time show back then was a western with at least one homicide per episode.

This show is up there with the Honeymooners imo !!
Amos and Andy was hilarious too. More so than other sitcoms of the time. Maybe too good. IMO Sanford and Son had the negative depictions depictions of Blacks.
Car 54 was very well written and very funny, but this episode is kind of sad.
they killed me in the horse scene lol
Originally telecast on October 1, 1961.
