I couldn't agree more I'm hopeful most of the biggest and best reviewers will do this for us from now on knowing we keep our phones for years. Hell my iPhone 13pro is running amazingly well I can't find a darn reason to give it up yet?
The last iPhone I used was the 13 , 3 years back. Coming back on the 17, feels like an upgrade in almost all ways you can think of. I do sometimes miss the boxy design of the older models, that felt like a solid piece of metal in your hands. The new ones are definitely nicer to hold in hand though, feels almost criminal putting a case on them.
They needed to improve the base model, because it's over two years and they still didn't bring their Apple AI. Every other brand already has it and Apple still can't manage to make it work. It was either to bring major improvements to their inferior products, or tragic sales with weak products and no AI. At least they finally improved the base iPhone so it can actually compete with the competition. At least until it comes to AI.
I watched this on my new iPhone 17 in Black. It confirmed that I made the right choice! Coming from iPhone 11, the new model feels like a Pro version to me. Absolutely love it! 😊

I heavily agree with you, the 17 is the best phone all things considered. If you don't shoot with your phone (or maybe heavily game), the 17 is the best option! Just wish they kept the plus because people do want a bigger screen. Clearly they knew they Air would be much harder to sell if a 17+ existed.
I bought an iPhone 17 yesterday, just like yours. I’ve noticed a lot of things have improved and changed compared to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I’ve come to the realization that the iPhone 17 Pro isn’t really necessary for me. I’m thoroughly satisfied with my phone and the sage color. Great video!
I’m honestly unable to see when you film with a professional camera or the latest smartphone. It’s really good that the base iPhone got all the improvements making it more future proof for 3-4 years at least
I like how Apple didn’t even once mention ‘Apple Intelligence’ or ‘Camera Control’ at all throughout the entire keynote - the 2 things that literally Apple marketed so hard for its predecessor 16 just a year ago 😂

I upgraded from the 15 to the 17 and it’s awesome. I didn’t think I would notice the difference between 60hz and 120hz on the screen but it makes such a difference. The 15 is a great phone and would’ve lasted me a few years but the upgrades on the 17 made it worthwhile and it should last me a few years. The colour Black is more like a space grey and will go with any case colour, very classy.
Upgraded from a 14 Pro to the 17 base iPhone. I say upgraded and mean it. It’s an upgrade and really the all around best iPhone this generation for value. The 14Pro is still perfectly fine minus an aging battery. I’m giving it to my father as it’s still got many years left of dutiful service.
@herb414 honestly I wasn’t using any of those anyway on my 14 Pro. Since I’m not a huge videographer or photographer and only take a couple quick shots here and there of my dog in places I visit it’s not something that was important to me.
Upgraded from 11 pro max. Couldn’t agree more. It’s a great phone. My only qualm was the battery life. Expected a little more but running it in low power mode delivers the promised “all day battery.” I imagine the less than expected battery performance might be an iOS 26 issue. Hope one year the non-pro model will have three cameras. I do need an optical zoom boost, but I don't really need any 4k professional video recordings and I can tolerate USB 2.0 transfer speeds.

At 4:14 I was able to tell the difference but only because I already knew about the slight difference in focal length. I want to upgrade to a 17 but haven’t decided whether I’m going to get the base model or the pro.
I tried the Air but returned it and got the 17 base model because of the battery life and the wide angle lens. Irl the base model has much better battery life than your test showed.

i honestly need 120hz on the phone but on the ipad its way less noticable
@Whimsical72wrong. The jump from 256 to 512 was always $200. The only change is that there is not $100 jump from 128 to 256 anymore.

Better cameras and battery tech. 7000mah SiC battery and 1/1.28 inch sensors for both cameras would be crazy.

What about the loss of telephoto shots, raw and the lidar? I know they are just camera related, but I am curious how much the loss really is.

If you wanna improve the 14 Pro, do like I did - new battery (original) for about $120. So worth it, your father will be grateful.
