Parsley is a straight seed, so no need to do this. I can't think of any right now. Some seeds with hard coat like mango benefit when you remove it.
what soil were you using ?
I use miracle grow moisture control and sometimes mixed in my own compost.
How do you water the pot?
I make sure that the soil is moist when I start planting. Then just use the watering can with spray holes (the round part that is connected to the can) to water the seeds to make sure the soil does not get dry out.
