Could you give an explanation on how this keeps the gold from sucking into the silver? I think I get it, cause I was heating from the gold side and on ceramic so I think I'm doing it wrong. I appreciate your video greatly
The gold will never get sucked into the silver because it will never get hot enough for the silver to melt. If it does, you've gone too far and added too much heat. Your solder will flow before anything starts to melt.
Hi! Any solder you use is a personal choice :) We generally use silver solder, but it's nice to change it up a bit. And if you want to try and match your metals, it will make clean up easier.
No, the solder is up to you! The gold can definitely pool up if you're not too careful, but I have no problems melting the solder on gold then removing the heat immediately. After that, when I want the solder to flow, I heat it from underneath, that way the gold is protected from the direct heat from the flow temperatures.
