In the "Art of the Eight Limbs" (Muay Thai), hard low or high kicks are combined with elbow and knee strikes, as well as powerful kicks to the liver or thigh. These techniques help neutralize the threat posed by a boxer, a strategy often referred to as "defanging the snake."
The only problems I see is the fact that he takes that slight step back before countering which could telegraph what he’s going to do next. Keep the rhythm difficult to guess and it would work wonders. Other than that great form and speed🥂💎
Circle away from the power hand, use the single right hand to interrupt combinations or approaches, and alternate between head and body to throw off timing.
South paw has great options off this , slip to the right , outside his left lead foot with the jab ,come back with a R hook , left hand high , now away from his right hand.
For people that don't get it the orthodox lead foot is on the outside setting up the power hand and more out of the way for the southpaw powerhand. That's it, slight angle adjustment
It's not just about the countering, it's also about your foot placement. Counters will never be as affective if the lead foot is not on the outside of your opponents lead foot.
If your a southpaw you should hook-jab with the right and do inward side step to set up the inside left straight. Right handed people literally don't have a counter for it, unless they follow but it doesn't give them a range of options.
If you need to counter a south paw as orthodox, remember some quick fundamentals. If they are natural right, and switch to south, they will have more power in their front jabs. Another way to counter is to train like a south paw and be able to switch stances, which is a good general tip. Lastly, your front foot, has to stay on the OUTSIDE of your south paw opponent. He has better access to your defense if the south paws foot is on the outside of an orthodox fighters foot. It feels unatural to fight a south paw because its like like fighting a mirror, but like always, foot work and postioning is key. Lastly, lastly: The South paw in the video is using a pendulum style of boxing, prevalent in Old Soviet style if boxing and is a difficult style to counter. But if you have heart, push him and that pendulum gets squashsd. Watch for his retreating jabs. Old soviet style boxers love using a retreating jab.
Best counter for a southpaw. Learn how to step to the right, their whole life they fight people stepping to the left. If you learn the art of stepping off to the right and landing a left hook or learning to set yourself for a straight you’ll mess up their whole gameplan. It’s not a guarenteed way but anything you have thought of they have most likely sparred against, because every single person trains to get outside their lead leg.
Guys, it is the leading right, then the left hook and the right to get out. In the moment, you have various openings. I have boxed lefties and have taken em to school. 😊
EXCEPT that it works both ways, orthodox fighters. It's called a straight or overhand left. And we're not the ones who need special training to "counter" the opposite stance. Remember that...
No south paw is gonna give you the footing like that.. its actually for natural for a South paw to walk that direction too.. so chances are their foot will be there more than yours.. Also if you are going to exit.. don't exit on a straight line.. angle out otherwise... night night
Treat your drilling partners nicely. Getting your head snapped back for a drill is crazy. I’ll save my mild headache for sparring day. Personally wouldn’t be me or I’ll make you ACTUALLY counter one of those jabs.
The pendulum step is just plain good in general. Orthodox, Southpaw or otherwise it'll take you pretty far. The trick is doing it while jockeying for dominant foot position.
Southpaw needs to get his lead foot on the outside. Works every time. Lead foot outside jab, right hook body, overhand.only works if hands are up tho. Other than that, 1, 2 , body, 4,3,6
Well yeah, that can counter anybody cosplaying as a tree.
Its just a drill for the counter guy to practice reacting to counter opportunities and stepping on the outside.
