We need to continue the JWST, WFIRST, additional robotic spacecraft as well as manned space flight so that we can become a truly interplanetary species - Elon's dream is our World's dream! Thank you!
He actually doesn't. And the testament to that is him deciding to go for car company and rocket company (success rate of which are close to 0%) instead of investing those 180 million dollars (that he got from paypal) into less risky market. And the fact that he literally put in remaining amount of personal wealth to launch 4th rocket, which turned out to be successful; but if it weren't, not only spacex would go bankrupt, Elon would too.

Shuttle program had to be stopped to rethink space travel, if the shuttle program was not cancelled there be no incentive to do what is happening now. I think.
But your also complete correct in some ways, there was lots projects on table that was canceled, that might reduce cost as well, like aerospike engine. (but it most likely won't be craft cable of traveling to mars)
@@rbrtck retiring the shuttle before we had another vehicle ready was a major setback for NASA. So many talented NASA employees were lost to other companies and industries. Losing the ability to service Hubble alone has been a tough one and with no more optical space telescopes in development stages we're looking at the possibility of no more science in that area soon.
@J. Sakic I just meant that launching astronauts from American soil wasn't the be-all-end-all of the US space program--NASA have been doing so much more than that this whole time. But what you say about losing this capability being a setback is true, too. Working with others is something we should do as much as we can, but *depending* on others for a major capability that we lack is not a direction we want to go in. That said, we would still have lost the Space Shuttle's capabilities regardless. The system was amazing in many ways, but it never realized the cost savings it was intended to, and in fact cost so much that it was unsustainable. If it weren't for that, NASA might have tried their best to fix its other issues, but they just couldn't afford to keep launching it. Even if we didn't open that 8-year gap in crewed launch capability, we still would have lost a lot. As for NASA's lost talent, many of them have gone on to great things like SpaceX and other commercial space programs, and we've seen a lot of positive results in this area. And as for the Hubble Space Telescope, yes it would be a shame to lose the visible light and UV capability that it provides, as ground-based telescopes with adaptive optics are only good in the near-IR and maybe the red end of the visible spectrum, but I wonder why we can't still service it. If we need to have it docked for safe spacewalking, couldn't that be done with the Dragon 2 or Starliner with a special docking adapter? Additionally, the Dragon 2 can carry a fairly sizeable payload in its non-pressurized trunk for new parts. Maybe the Soyuz and Starliner don't have what it takes, but maybe the Dragon 2 does. Alternatively, a robotic spacecraft--even a Russian Progress if needed--could dock with the Hubble and take it to the ISS, where it could then be separated and docked to the station by the ISS' robotic arm. The new parts could be stored in a cargo module that opens up or could be attached ahead of time to various racks on ISS modules or its truss structure. Once the repairs/upgrades are done, the Hubble could then be boosted to a new orbit closer to the ISS for easier servicing in the future. I realize that all of this is easier said than done, but I think it is doable. All the Space Shuttle does is dock with the Hubble for safety and stability, and provide an airlock and tons of space for parts, which is a big deal, but is not impossible to accomplish without the Shuttle.
I really LOVE the smiles on these astronauts' faces. You really see the happiness in them when they realize they can keep on exploring and improving. Really beautiful to see.

While I was skeptical [although perhaps not as skeptical as others] of his appointment, Bridenstine has so far really convinced me that he's getting NASA on the right track. He's a happy warrior for NASA's budget, an excellent spokesperson and a so far adept navigator of the political landscape that any NASA administrator must traverse. I'm very glad his views have shifted on Global Climate change and hope he is able to shelter as much climate/earth science as politically possible.
I, too, was very skeptical about Bridenstine. And I suspect that some engineers and scientists at NASA really thoroughly sorted out his ideas and views after his appointment.
He can't take the SLS budget and spend it on the Starship, and that'd be the only part where him running NASA would be beneficial. Keep NASA what it is, they're awesome, they just have a congress problem. (It's not called "progress" for a reason.)
@@xGaLoSx I agree in part... Having government agencies involved in space travel is incredibly beneficial as they will carry out not for profit science experiments that private companies like Spacex will not.
Well, my freind the physics won’t change for us in 21st century. The SpaceX rockets you’re seing now is the technology developing since 1940s. That’s already 80 years mate. And we still using chemical propelant which will take us nowhere near even the closest Alpha Centauri star.
The only way we're getting something to another star system anytime soon is the breakthrough starshot project, using laser arrays to push a fleet of very tiny sail probes to ~0.2c. That could make it to proxima centauri before the end of the century, but it's not like it will be a full feature exploration mission like we've done here in the Sol system. It's also doubtful that the planet they're looking to target for that mission is habitable, as it's almost certainly tidally locked and subject to punishing flares. It will be a major accomplishment if it ever happens, but it's hardly interstellar travel. And that's the absolute best case scenario.

Yeah, come on NASA, get a better mic, it's not rocket science
Elon said he read every book possible for SpaceX. Is this when he stumbled upon young Sheldon's notes to NASA?

Great presentation Jim Bridenstine! Please help ensure we secure the funding needed to continue humankind's quest for space exploration by fully funding NASA and NSF! We need to continue the JWST, WFIRST, additional robotic spacecraft as well as manned space flight so that we can become a truly interplanetary species - Elon's dream is our World's dream! Thank you!
Absolutely, they better not cancel WFIRST.
Hey RØDE Microphones, can you send a few mics to the NASA ? Thanks !!
Best Comment of the Day!
Watching at the end of 2020 knowing that all 4 of these astronauts have successfully launched to the ISS. So incredible.
Elon: Never stop. ❤️ I want my great grandchildren to know of your greatness ✨ Thank you for all you do for humankind...
I'll say one thing, Jim's social media savvy is pretty on point
I like bridenstine, he obviously love his job and nasa!
Also , i'm not going to die until i'll see the colony on Mars . Guys from NASA and especially Elon , you`

“I actually don’t care about money” - Elon Musk 2019
Edit: thanks for all the likes!
I honestly believe him he was whiling to bankrupt him self to buy that Russian I.B.M with the hope some one would start where he left off. In other words he was whiling do what ever it took to be the start to something grate! Just that would of made him happy. We need more people like Elon to be whiling to lose everything for the advancement of human kind not just the united state but everybody! You don't have to be incredibly rich just a little thinking outside the box.. All you need is your mined and to believe in your self money can come later.. Just one idea can lead to incredible things and discovery's. New technology's are being invented at an incredible rate things we never imagined we'd be seeing today. You have everything you need to be grate you have access to the greatest and most advanced computer ever created.. your brain..
Lmfo that is great.
I actually believe him - money just helps but his drive is his passion. Truly inspiring and a great man. Elon and Trump 2020 - exciting times ahead.
its easy not to care when you dont have to worry about it...
Keep it coming NASA! Interesting interviews, exciting developments, new technologies... at this rate you’ll have the country pumped up again like it’s 1969!
Just two good dudes in charge helping the nation and world explore space and beyond. Very cool.
Here from the future: They successfuly launched with the crew on board and got to the ISS.

We talk tribes in such small numbers.
that gum has run out of flavor for 30 years now.
Sounds amazing. So glad to see space program return. Biggest mistake ever was stopping it
Shuttle program had to be stopped to rethink space travel, if the shuttle program was not cancelled there be no incentive to do what is happening now. I think.
But your also complete correct in some ways, there was lots projects on table that was canceled, that might reduce cost as well, like aerospike engine. (but it most likely won't be craft cable of traveling to mars)
@sullyz girl89 Well, the space program never went away. You're just talking about astronauts being launched from American soil specifically.
Elon Musk is accomplishing phenomenal things! I admire and respect that man.
Inspiring! There's great rapport between Elon and Jim - their partnership and leadership is going to result in massive achievements.
I really LOVE the smiles on these astronauts' faces. You really see the happiness in them when they realize they can keep on exploring and improving. Really beautiful to see.
Great Stuff, Jim and Elon you guys are truly inspiring...

Watching this after actual crew dragon launch. :-D
So cool! NASA and SpaceX are two amazing organizations.

I couldn't be happier with Bridenstine as NASA's new administrator. What a guy, honestly. No one has ever shown this much passion for the future of humans in space(in NASA), and that's really difficult to say because they all had passion for it. NASA, and all the private space companies in america are making the future so exciting and bright.
Elon just kinda there at the beginning like "yeah dude, neato, keep talking... You done yet? Aight guess not then"
Great Effort! Thanks for being a government official embracing Social Media and providing meaningful, timely content. Next video, concentrate on sound quality. Perhaps a simple wireless mike. Great idea having Elon and real astronauts interviewed. People appreciate hearing from "Doers" and hearing their stories will help inspire a new generation. Excellent!

Thanks to everyone in this video. A year later and this is one of those amazing moments which is helping me stay positive with other current events.
I Love it when ELON said ... im not in it for the money ..i want ppl to be multi planetary species .. wow .. hes in it for the good reasons ... he doesnt care about the money ..wow !!!
manumus11 uops!, maybe a little Late, but here in june 2020, Elon just recieved his first paycheck or salary ever from his work at Tesla, so if it was for the money, he would not be here!!!.
He took loans in his House, to pay for the 4 rocket flight, so thats why he says that Spacex would not have existed if it had failed.
I really admire him, he has been through so much, and still wants to try and save humanity, he is awesome😍👍🏼
I wouldn't watch this without Elon in the video.
That's unfortunate. He's by no means the only person in aerospace worth watching.
Who's after crew demo 2 launch
Wow, this gives me great confidence that the US will be back on the moon again. It's like when I was a kid and watched every space flight of the Apollo program.
Elon for NASA administrator 😎
It'd only slow him down
He is better off at SpaceX
He can't take the SLS budget and spend it on the Starship, and that'd be the only part where him running NASA would be beneficial. Keep NASA what it is, they're awesome, they just have a congress problem. (It's not called "progress" for a reason.)
GIVE NASA MORE THINGS.
They're bloated and inefficient. Give the money to Elon.
@@xGaLoSx I agree in part...
Having government agencies involved in space travel is incredibly beneficial as they will carry out not for profit science experiments that private companies like Spacex will not.
This is prob the first interview that have seen that have learned more about what goes on behind the scene.
Only watching because Elon was in the thumbnail. GO ELON MUSK!!!!
I think Elon Musk brain works different than all humans do 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
His implanted translator can't keep up with the speed of his telepathic speech.

By joining forces, I think we could *visit a habitable exoplanet before the end of this century*
Once we get permanent human settlements on Mars, I think it just accelerates from there, their gravity well will be so much shallower...
visit an exoplanet ? interstellar travel in 21'st century ? it's impossible. don't even dream about it :)
Gonna Go All Exo. If you end up using that, I want royalties.
My head automatically bows down whenever i see Elon Musk videos...
Huge respect sir.
Im so grateful to be able to witness whats happening in space program. Thanks to everyone who had a part in getting us this far.
Elon, you da man! Thanks for my model 3 btw😍😍👍

I'm gonna get a model 3 myself once I graduate from IT! Cheapest but also probably the car that's the most worth it.

That moment when you realize all the lapel mic audio didn't record for some reason and you have to patch up the external mic audio enough to get the video out. Always happy to watch any new video content no matter what. Thanks to all at NASA. Media is super important.
Jim Bridenstine seems like a nice guy, I have a good feeling about him and Elon doing great things together, everyone is excited about space again and that's awesome. I hope one day I get a chance to work for NASA or SpaceX, but at this point chances are slim :(

Jim Bridenstine is the BEST NASA administrator I've ever seen!
He might be the best one alive, because nobody beats James Webb. Without him I don't think NASA would have gotten the support it needed to get to the Moon.
