Fun fact, and this still works today, tapping on the hang-up button sends the same pulses, and if you know someone's number, you can literately dial their phone number. If you ever need to dial 911 and there's no number pad that would work too. It won't work on a pay phone if only because hitting the hang up button on it ends the call and eats your money.
