yess. lots of personal finance people talk the talk about how you're allowed to spend your money how you want but then make subtle digs at spending money on "frivolous" things or in a way they disagree with. YNAB is just "if you want to prioritize it you can" and i really appreciate that
The niceness of YNAB employees shines through in the two of you. Your authentic and full hearted temperaments are what drew me to YNAB content and rules even though I don’t use the app!
I think the thing that I like best about YNAB is that it helped me deal with my finances head on. I've always been a bad budgeter and procrastinator or it seemed just too overwhelming. Now that it's online and there's an easy app and there's these outstanding folks to help you and the videos and training I've been able to offset the stress that comes with money and live responsibly. I'm finally not living paycheck to paycheck and as I prepare to go into retirement in the next few years I have a true grasp of what I have to work with. It's that push torward a fixed income that also encouraged me to use YNAB.
My husband is also 15 & 30 and I'm biweekly. Plus I'm working on launching my ynab coaching business which is slowly starting to bring in sporadic paychecks 😉 And yes, the few clients I've coached already have told me YNAB is life changing! It truly is 😊
What drew to YNAB is the method is exactly how I think it justbfilled in the blanks of where I was struggling. I love the compassion and meeting eople where they are. In addition, it's flexible, no guilt. I signed up for monthly payments within a week switched to yearly. Starred Feb 2023, love it! The teachers, RUclipsrs, all YNAB team is great! If it weren't for the virtual classes I might have struggled more.
I think the emergency fund has 2 functions. 1 is income replacement, 2 is natural disaster. like we had the derecho in Iowa a couple years back that straight up destroyed homes with little to no warning.
Emergency Fund is Income lost and Sudden Hospitalization/Not covered by Insurance. Sudden Hospitalization/Not covered by Insurance probable needs to equal Income Lost because both will happen at the same time.
If the best thing as a budget nerd is getting weekly pay, then the worst is when your paycheck and budget nerds come out on the same biweekly schedule! That means every other week I experience a huge gap in my budgeting fix. Oh the withdrawal! 😵💫
Uffdah-that's rough. Maybe fill in the gaps with reviewing all payee renaming rules, category balance stare-downs, and switching out all of the old emojis for new ones 🤣~Ernie
On the topic of getting to budget weekly because you and your partner get paid on alternating weeks… my husband and I both get paid weekly but he gets paid on Thursday and I get paid on Friday. So, I get two budget days every week! Some days getting to budget is what helps me get out of bed. 😂
I love getting to budget once a week because my husband and I get paid opposite weeks. But twice a week would be heaven, lol! If I ever decide to switch jobs I think pay frequency would be something I ask about early on in the interview process just to prepare myself for any budgeting changes 😅
Ben, prudent reserve is income replacement! The official Google definition is "A prudent reserve is a financial term used to refer to any money set aside by an organization to protect its operations in the face of a drop in income..." I consider my family to be my "organization" 😂
I’ve been trying to join the Facebook group for over a month now but my request is still pending. Is there a cap on new members or something? I’m so keen to join.
Huh! Is there a way you can "cancel" your pending request and immediately re-request? To be sure you have the right group, make sure this is the one you applied to: facebook.com/groups/YNABFans I can also have BenB check in with the facebook group admin to make sure your request wasn't lost! 🌻 Hannah
Biggest thing that drew me to YNAB is the compassion. Having debt isn't viewed as a personal failing, that feels like a rare thing.

Yep doesn’t have that Dave ramsey energy
YNAB stands for You're Not Alone, Budgeters!

I can totally see Ben working at a library, that's awesome 😁

I miss the YNAB Debt Smack Down forum so much. The support from fellow YNABers is so wonderful.
Budgeting every second week is what I miss the most now that I'm retired. I only get to budget twice a year when we take money out of our RRSP.

The groups are active because YNAB keeps closing their own groups. I'm in a group, not social media, that users from the earlier YNAB forum started.

I get paid about 20 times a month! It’s fun but the only thing I don’t love is that I can’t see big picture progress very quickly!
Great Episode Guys!!🎉

Oh that is so funny! Well, I guess I don't have to change the name. 😊~BenB
