ProTip™ for aligning the magnet: peel off a strip of the backing, but lay down the other end first while keeping the exposed adhesive strip a bit elevated (the backing usually takes care of that, unless you peeled of too much). Then you have not only 1 edge to properly align it, but 3. Then just brush from e.g. the aligned back/sides towards the exposed front strip, pressing it down perfectly aligned. And then you can continue like shown in the video.
tl;dr: peel of a small strip at the front, but align at the back and sides.
(edit: this may not be optimal for oversized magnets, though. but i guess still better than aligning on the sticky side.)

I just did this, I ordered a 355mm magnet, but my bed came and it was also 355mm.... :) I mounted it the way you described (it seemed like the best way at the time too), exposed about half inch then lined up the other 3 sides and when satisfied pressed down the exposed edge. Then followed Nero's directions from there. Lined up perfect.
I felt so confident I did the magnet right after and now it's sitting with 20 books on it for a day. :)

I used the "ProTip" and a "Bondo spreader" (larger and more flexible than the plastic spatula) and the fit could not be more precise, no bubble and it was applied in no time. Thanks to both Nero and Jan!

Thanks guys, I wasn't feeling very confident getting a perfect lineup when the magnet and bed are exactly the same size (350mm) but I'm going to try this!

This is indeed a ProTip™! I followed this tip and everything went perfectly and quickly with zero bubbles. What I did find worked better for me though vs. the video was working toward my body rather than away from it. I think it gave me better control of peeling the backing away, especially near the end of the job.

Forced to replace my bed due to wear & tear (the heater bed wires on my Ender 3 started to fray, and caused a short!). I was loath to replace the magnetic bed, fearing air bubbles... but after watching your extremely in depth video, I'm going to do it. I love my spring-steel sheet too much to go back to glass.
    Thanks for the courage!

Oh man, I wish I found these printers a couple years ago. They are so crisp and clean looking. It's definitely my next printer.
Unfortunately I've spent about $1000 on building a Hypercube Evolution, buying it's parts here and there for just over 2 years.
However, my next project is a filament extruder, mostly do I can recycle my old and failed prints... They add up quickly haha

I use a old creditcard and go from the furthest side to me when applying the magnet. Its alot easier as it is easier to pull towards me. I also dont hold the magnet while applying, as its not that heavy, and the plastic sheet can keep it floating.

an abrasive cleaner with bleach like ajax or comet is a good way to prep a surface for glue or paint, the bleach is far better at getting rid of the last of the residual oils than a solvent is.

9:57 isn't less safe since you're now relying on the new adhesive? I would imagine the heater adhesive would not fall off as easily as the new adhesive
