Philip King, was here, later he replaced Steve Rippon as bass guitarist in LUSH(great miki berenyi, chris acland and emma anderson), in 1992 until 1998.
the constant chord is like a GM7 i think. 3rd fret on low E, 2nd fret on A, leave D, G, and B open, then 2nd fret on high E. then the same chord with the high E open. like this: E 3 3 A 2 2 D 0 0 G 0 0 B 0 0 e 2 0
A slice slash and stab of heaven. Perfect flourishes of violin, mozzy style vox (w. falsetto to boot).....climbing heights higher than those trees up there...a git that dances whirrs and JANGLES w. the best of them. Pity they never touched these heights again, eh? Next time let's make the wings out of something other than wax, eh Daedalus?
Yeah it's such a sweet song, everything about it. If you ever cover it I hope you find someone to do the violin part, it gives it that oddly ethereal but still urgent driving sound. And I always thought it was funny the way he says "I give you everything, that's not much...lalalalala..." That honesty would impress me but probably not a whole lot of others. lol. :) -------------------------------------- The sun, a small star It's not for them where my heart lies la lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh I lie here with you But you're not here 'cause I open my eyes la lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh The sun, a small star I give you everything, that's not much lalalalala lala lalalala oooh But to the dark sky I'm looking to, can almost touch you La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh The sun, a small star I'll dream forevermore La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh A shining bright star It's you then that I adore La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh The sun, a small star The sun, a small star The sun, a small star The sun, a small star
@@letsplayarecord The Servants had a few songs that sounded a lot like the Go Betweens, plus David Westlake played a Peel session with them, and they even borrowed their violinist Amanda for this song here.
no words to explain its brilliance

Memories of John Peel and the mid 1980s...

The sun, a small star
It's not for them where my heart lies
la lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh
I lie here with you
But you're not here 'cause I open my eyes
la lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh
The sun, a small star
I give you everything, that's not much
lalalalala lala lalalala oooh
But to the dark sky
I'm looking to, can almost touch you
La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh
The sun, a small star
I'll dream forevermore
La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh
A shining bright star
It's you then that I adore
La lala-lala lala lala-lala oooh
The sun, a small star
The sun, a small star
The sun, a small star
The sun, a small star

@@tinycreature1749 Yeah, they sound uncannily like 'Send me a Lullaby'-era Go-Bs on songs like 'Look Like a Girl'.
