I believe it only controls the music player on your smartphone with local music files. It is a feature I don't use and don't test so I am not 100% sure.
It comes with an instruction manual. This is a review, not a "how to" tutorial. That said, synch the watch with your phone to pull in the time from your phone.

It could also be a defective device. That time/date should pull in when you synch with your phone.
